I must admit Sydney, I would consider buying the Guardian, but I find Andrex to be much softer.
Have a nice week. x

love you too Steve :) up the rovers
-
looks like Stephen is making himself look even more silly these days.
Probably a telegraph reader these days and without Johnney Marr his music is rubbish,
should have packed it in years ago.
Strange - when I look at the papers in the newsagent and glance at the headlines ,I see the Guardian as the least likely 'hate-rag' of the lot. Tells a lot of truth as well , probably why a lot of people don't like it , prefer their (obvious) lies and fantasy.

That's what I always thought about The Smiths. Great music. Great lyrics. Shit singer.
-
......But if he supported Labour he'd be a great singer.
This forum gets more pathetic each day.

the smiths were/are one of my favourite bands of all time, especially in their first 2 or 3 years.
I liked the music, regardless of Morissey’s personality or his politics..
So I really don’t understand your point BB.?
Billy Bragg was/is very leftist and even brought that into some of his music, if anything that put me off..
Same with Paul Weller.
But generally with music I either like the sound, or I don’t. Nothing more and nothing less..
-
And being pedantic, it was always “the smiths” in lower case, deliberately.

I agree with you. I imagine all level headed people would also.

Wagner was a proto-Fascist with horrific social views, but that doesnt change the fact that he's the greatest composer of all time.
Morrissey is and always has been the most ignorantly stupid kind of Little Englander, but that doesn't change the fact that he was part of one of the greatest bands of all time.
But as Foxbat says, he's been w**k as a solo act.
Since the band broke up, he's produced nothing of any musical interest, bar Suedehead. I gave up after Viva Hate, which was self indulgent maudlin shite.
Interestingly, on that very first solo album, he produced one of THE worst songs of all time, "Bengali in Platforms".
It wasn't awful because it was full of bone idle, thick racism (although it was). It was awful because it was f**king dreadful music and song composition.

I've not seen much better from him in the past 30 years. He's an irrelevance, musically and socially.
-
the smiths went downhill after The Queen is Dead LP, IMHO, and that at a push..
-
......But if he supported Labour, would it have been mentioned that he was a shit singer?
-
This is how idly thick Morrissey's racism is.
While he was making songs effectively telling Indians to go back home, and while he was venerating stars of 1960s English culture on his sing covers, there was a generation of young Asian-background musicians growing up in the UK who were genuinely embracing the West without losing their own culture.

Morrissey would be never be able to process that,be sure his culture isn't dynamic and changing. It's set in stone from his childhood.
-
Just as an aside..... How is it a fact that Wagner's the greatest composer of all time?
-
......But if he supported Labour, would it have been mentioned that he was a shit singer?
Why not? The two aren’t connected..
-
Exactly! So why was his singing ability mentioned?
-
Just as an aside..... How is it a fact that Wagner's the greatest composer of all time?
He was great in Hart to Hart....
Seriously I can't see how Wagner could be described as the greatest classical composer of all time.
Beethoven maybe. Mozart probably.
Though Liszt is my favourite.
Opinion not fact.
.
-
Maybe he got the fact from the Guardian.
-
Now now BB. I agree with nearly everything BST puts on here.
Just not this one
-
Now THAT is a fact!
-
People in having different opinions on singer's musical talent shocker.
-
So who is the best singer then, Morrisey or the Guardian?
-
Exactly! So why was his singing ability mentioned?
Seems a natural thread development.. someone posts about Morrissey and the discussion moves to his musical abilities..
There’s a progression to classical music composers too, does it matter how they vote.?
-
Exactly! So why was his singing ability mentioned?
Because he's a shit singer. So am I. That's why.
Unlike BB, who's just a shit stirrer. And a shit one of those too.
-

No! it doesn't matter how someone votes, whether he's a shit singer or the greatest composer in the world, factually or not! But people who insist on 'grown-up' political discussions shouldn't diversify from the subject in hand in order to strengthen their point, especially by criticizing someone about something completely different.
That's the last straw, man.
-
My ironyometer just blew a fuse.
-

Unlike BB, who's just a shit stirrer. And a shit one of those too.
Is that why you've got shit political views, because, like Morrisey you're a shit singer?
-

That logic applies perfectly to me BB. Having sung in bands as a young man, I rate myself as a good singer. That must be why my political opinions are so good.
-
Me too, Steve. In my early days, It was thought I'd make a tenor. As yet I haven't even made 30 bob.

Same as when I was boxing. The last fight I had, he hit me that f*cking hard I had to pay to get back in.
-

Well done bb first to mention politics on this thread to kick off an argument
-
So,isn't the OP political?
-
BB
I think the correct thing for you to say at this point is "Oh yeah. Sorry. My mistake."
We all do it. No-one is going to think any less of you.
-
BST. I will apologise when I'm wrong. In this instance, I'm not.
I don't give a flying f**k whether anyone thinks any less of me either way.
-
You're not "wrong". You just introduced party politics into a thread that wasn't about party politics.
If you're happy doing that, and looking for a fight over it, then fine. Fill your boots.
-
If it wasn't about party politics what sort of politics was it about?
-
None.
-
So, the anti-Guardian, former smiths frontman and supporter of a far-right party wasn't a political description?
-
BB did the OP open with an opinion on Morrissey or just highlight something, for forum members to respond to as they saw fit.?
-
Yes. It was a political OP, and further posts led to him being called politically silly and then, completely irrelevantly, he was called a shit singer!
I responded as I saw fit!
-
Some threads wander by mistake?
-
Yes, they do, but on this occasion, It wasn't me who wandered.
-
But does it matter.?
-
Ask Sydney!
-
that's easy Bentley you had two goes to get a bite before politics came into it
-
So, your OP about the anti-Guardian, former smiths frontman and supporter of a far-right party wasn't about politics?
In that case what is the title "Morrissey v the Guardian" all about?
-
That isn’t always the case though BB..
Threads started on here about Mason’s court case always included comments on his footballing abilities but the OP wouldn’t have been about football..
I think similar has happened here.?
-
I agree IDM, but that's not the point here. The point here is that I'm accused of making it political. I didn't!
-
Yep black is the new white
-
In your world, it probably is, especially if it was in the Guardian in White and Black.
-
So, the anti-Guardian, former smiths frontman and supporter of a far-right party wasn't a political description?
And where did I describe him as such? I think you'll find that was someone else. I don't give a shit about his politics, which is why I didn't mention them - I was talking purely about his lack of singing ability. But then you couldn't resist opening your gob and sticking your foot right down it in the very next post by bringing Labour into it.
And than you have the brass neck to moan about someone else 'diversifying' the subject! You really are a prize pillock.
-
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"
-

Where did I say you did? That quote was clearly referring to the OP. So, there you go again with your twisting and false accusations.
When Sydney said you protest too much, he is indeed correct, for once!
-
snooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore :(
-
If that's the best you can do from your own head I'd stick to the Guardian links.
-
You're just impossible to please
-
You know what they say about people who are impossible to please, don't you? When it comes to Christmas presents just give them Links.
