So if I get this right, 3 households can get together in a bubble for 5 days over Christmas.. each individual household can also include a current support bubble, so if include my elderly father then i can invite another two households too, including overnight stays:.
I didn’t see any limitations on actual numbers.?
People are only supposed to have one Christmas bubble and not see a different set of folks on different days, but how is that going to be monitored and controlled effectively.? Apart from not being able to go out to bigger parties and gatherings in pubs etc, won’t many people just go OTT in relation to the rules.?
This isn’t bah humbug from me, I love Christmas and I hope people will celebrate sensibly, but I’m a tad concerned..
What do folks think.?
-
I think common sense ought to prevail for those who have any. Those who haven't won't adhere to the rules anyway.
-
It's difficult and we all have to make choices. No easy win but that's life at the minute isn't it? It's also my daughter's 3rd birthday at Christmas so what do we do? She sees her grandparents for childcare (which is permitted), is that on top of the bubbles still? Very confusing.
Overall people will just do what they want, unless they lock down with police on the streets it can't be enforced anyway.
-
That’s the point exactly.. my worry is give people an inch and they take a yard..
-
Call me a mardy b*****d, but I really cba with Christmas anymore, so I'd like to see the government use some common sense..... and consider it as I do believe a third lockdown would probably be inevitable in the New Year.
Surely people can manage having one Christmas slightly different to other years?! As stated above, I do think a lot of people are just going to totally disregard everything that has happened this past year and have the Christmas they want, regardless.
-

On this we agree BB.. sometimes I think individuals have common sense when acting alone, but when part of a group, crowd or larger society, then common sense goes out of the window..
Where I work we have to wear face coverings as well as keeping 2m+ apart wherever possible. In a place that employs hundreds there are probably 10-15% who seem to think that they are more likely to catch or spread the virus through their chins. Also, there are some who “work” ie they hang around with their mates in groups of 2 or 3 for elongated chats, but close enough to hold hands. Same for going off on break etc walking together - and many of them take their mask off whilst talking as it supposedly makes them easier to be heard - never mind being so close.
My concern is that if these people so blatantly ignore the really basic rules and guidelines to protect against the virus, what are they doing to comply with other rules.??
Extrapolate 10-15% in one large-ish warehouse to the whole of our society and therein lies the problem. Folks just either don’t care or are blissfully ignorant.
I do hope that more folks follow what you are saying BB and show common sense, then this whole thing will be over much sooner.
-
I was hoping there would be a severe lockdown over Christmas so that I don't have to see any relatives.
If another lockdown is the price for Christmas, then Christmas should be sacrificed IMO. None of the other religions were given the green light to mix over their festivals ( even if in reality they did ).
I may stay at home and say i'm self isolating. Bah humbug.
-
It will be carnage over Christmas with people meeting up , another lock-down mid January is a dead cert , it will be impossible to police as how would you know who is in who's bubble it will be all down to trust and people been responsible
-
It will not make a difference to us. We have an elderly grandparent who has cancer and has been shielding right through. She doesn't want us travelling a long bringing along a school age kid. As much as we would like to go along and spend Christmas day with her, after not being able to for so long, she still doesn't want to take the risk.
Other than that younger members of the family are in London and are with their own families anyway. Not travelling to visit them this year is no great hardship. We'll just say hello on WhatsApp.

My understanding, as we are in similar position, tbe bubble for childcare is you and the grandchild but not the parents

You'd know all about that, wouldn't you. Would you adhere to the rules if there's another lockdown in January or would that one be a joke as well?
-
Like I said I meet my dad and brother to watch football I'm not ashamed of that , I go to work when I'm not furloughed as I work in in restaurants, only been to a pub once since march , I will not be meeting people at Christmas, but their is nothing stopping people travelling out of tier 3 into tier 2 and having a meal and drink in a pub they have never been in before , so we will have another lockdown in January as the rules make no sense as all the shops will be open from Wednesday again and people will go out and it will be crazy in the shops

Yes this is correct, I don't see my mum and dad much bar dropping then off but the kids do. Still, not an ideal situation for anyone really.

Therein lies the problem. People only bending the rules a little bit each, but across the population that’s a hell of a lot of “eaches”..
Then there are people who see others bending/breaking the rules who then think “if they can do it, so can we”..
Part of the problem is eh at some of the measures are advisory or recommendations, which however strongly they are worded, are not legally binding, enforceable etc so folks will choose whether or not to comply.

Part of the problem is that some of the measures are advisory or recommendations , This is the main problem as you are Advised not to to it but you are not braking any laws so people will do what they want within the law , Im not saying its right but allowing people to travel anywhere they want to and eat and drink anywhere they want to is wrong

Can’t believe grown men of some apparent intelligence are actually debating the removal and reward of your liberty ad if it’s normal...?
You lot are actually adding credibility to something obviously daft...
It’s a good time for the pub, bar, gym, restaurant, shop, owners of Doncaster and every other area to say “ enough is enough” ..... we are open for business !
turn your radios off, watch other programmes and don’t read silly social media statements designed to frighten you...
Yes there is a virus, nobody is denying that....but it’s containable without all the misinformation being bandied about....
If this was a serious virus, and I mean a real threat....the country would be totally on lockdown ( of which I would agree to) instead of this silly selective “ they can do this, they can’t, they’re on this lockdown they can’t do this! “
Surely any one with a brain cell can see that there is more misleading information to at least show the threat isn’t as aggressive as first thought...

All the anger should be aimed at this lying government , however those clever men and women in room 101 are very good at manipulating the doe eyed public into believing the most outrageous of ideas are actually benefiting us, by creating divisions within society, a reward system for compliance of YOUR freedoms that shouldn’t be negotiated by those who are elected to SERVE US!
Those are my colours well and truly nailed to the mast....if you disagree, .....go chew some grass in a field until your told your full and can now be readied for slaughter....

If we disagree we are not allowed to argue the case here.?
This virus is a killer especially if unchecked.. many, maybe most who get it won’t be badly affected or won’t even know. Without controls it spreads silently so that eventually it gets to the more vulnerable even if millions of folks would be ok..
Yes the government is to blame for mismanagement and for imposing confusing rules, but do you think if they had acted sooner and more strictly, we would have been in a better place by now.?
-
How the Tories got their name.
Many of today's British Conservative Party might be disturbed to know that their nickname, "Tories" originated in Ireland in the mid 16th century, deriving from the Gaelic word 'toraidhe', which meant plunderer, robber, thief, barbarian & yobbo.
How fitting is this with todays Tory's

Firstly all Governments lie !
I would have liked to know why the origins of this virus were never fully investigated.....I guess that’s old news that just became unimportant and did it’s job..
There are many viral engineers who are not allowed to speak out on the government controlled social media platforms that would give damning evidence against the governments way this is handled....
If this was a REAL pandemic , and I mean a really real virus that can be spread so easily and is utterly contagious......why are we being allowed to sacrifice our health for a few days over Xmas ???
What crazy decision says
“ there ya go public, mix in your groups and spread the virus everywhere, and we’ll pick up we’re we left off in the new year”....
IF this was a serious hazard to our health ....the government would tell everyone to down tools, shut everything , and stay in your homes for a period of time that would curtail the spread.....
Im sure you have scratched your head at some of the baffling bollox spewing from the mouths of those in charge ...... that’s your rationale telling you something is very wrong with the information.....

The virus was created in a lab in China. The Governments of the world have covered it up because they knew we would be screaming for war and they are frightened of the Chinese Communist Party.

Below comment from the BBC article on the latest figures;
The areas with the highest number of people infected per head of population are Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West and North East.
No surprise we have the highest restrictions then is it?

I'm part of the study they quote and have been having weekly tests, so I know how honest they are with the results (all of them negative). I really don't see how we can disagree with being in tier 3, it's the right thing to do.

No it is not the right thing to do....!
How can allowing 3 different households who have by all accounts been to the shops and caught the virus by passive means congregate over Xmas, also students being allowed to cross our nation undoubtedly for educational reasons is ridiculous....
Does this chuffin virus take a few days off over Xmas...????
please enlighten me to the logic behind these decisions ...preferably your logic not something you listened to off the bbc !

There is no logic, they're making it up as they go along.
They realised that the first lockdown was a total waste of time, as lockdowns only kick the can down the road, but they keep spinning us the same line as they daren't admit that they have screwed over the economy for decades to come for no valid reason. They have scared the pants off half of the population that much that they dare not go out of the house with the over the top predictions of doom from SAGE, the rest of us are left scratching a living all because they will not admit they got it wrong and refuse to change direction.

I think the point is to give people a break.to try and give some flex at a time when rules would be broken anyway. I'm not sure i would change it for Christmas but given half the population won't listen anyway....

no your support bubble is not included so in realty 4 families can meet up at Christmas , you and your support bubble count as 1 and then 2 more families

-
That’s how I see it, each of three “households” can qualify for a support bubble so in theory you get 6 households. Also I haven’t seen any limit on numbers of people, so you could in theory have 3 big multi generation family households say 6-7 people, each with a support bubble of a single parent with several (3-4) kids. You could legally see groups of 30+ however unlikely.
There will undoubtedly be many illegal Christmas gatherings of more than 3 households anyway.
-
And doesn't all of the above show what an absolute shit show this excuse for a government are making of this. You can ask 6 people and they all have a different interpretation of the rules.
-

I'm pretty sure someone in a bubble counts as a separate household. That's how I heard it on the radio this morning, but then again I may be wrong...
-
The crap thing about this for any Tier 3 area is, if on the 16th December we’ve been good boys and girls we may move to Tier 2, then on the 23rd I think Country wide restrictions will be lifted for 5 days, after that back to the Tier restrictions, so after Doncaster being in Tier 3 for a month and then lockdown for a month, why might get a window of increased infections that will no doubt leave us in Tier 3 again in January and possibly February, which is unacceptable when places like London can spread the virus in their relaxed restrictions
-

“In England if you have formed a support bubble with another household, that counts as one household, so you can join with two other households in a Christmas bubble.“
That doesn’t say the other two households can’t have their support bubble too.? I think for the definition of the Christmas relaxations, the term “household” includes existing support bubbles..

There are times that the nasty bas**rd in me wishes I could pop into that alternative universe where we'd just let the virus rip. And I could take a few particular people with me and let them see what happens when you get 60% of the population infected in a month, by a disease with a 1% once ruin fatality rate.
But we don't have access to that universe. We live in this one, where people are shielded from their own stupidity.
-
My mum and dad ,mid 70s fair health rang on Sunday to say no matter what gets said today it will be Christmas doorstep visits and nothing more,. They haven't done all this to chuck it away now over a bit of dinner and Tele. Bit of luck we are last push and if we can just keep it going this will become something to tell the grandkids about
-

For me, we should stay in lockdown over Christmas.
I don’t think anyone is expecting the infection rate NOT to increase in January after everyone has met up with family at Christmas.
People should be sensible enough not to travel from tier three areas to tier two or one areas to go for a meal but I suppose they will blame someone else when the infection rate rockets in January.

And I could take a few particular people with me and let them see what happens when you get 60% of the population infected in a month, by a disease with a 1% once ruin fatality rate.
But we don't have access to that universe. We live in this one, where people are shielded from their own stupidity.
How do you know that 100% are not infected, these tests are not conclusive ...just the results whether made up or not go forward to the government controlled ONS and they are reeled out to the gullibles to give credibility to the whole charade.....
BST .... if any of these restrictions and subsequent relaxations make any sense at all, please explain the logic...( without resorting to media fed stats)

I'm quite sure that the families of 1.42m world wide would disagree that it is not a pandemic
And those figures came from what source, and what other illnesses are you using as a comparable?
To just throw out a figure randomly is poor research..... the great debate as to whether covid kills or attacks the already weak and hastens death is not conclusive....
There are probably millions more than that who will die of non covid related causes , due to the lack of treatment because of it.....

No comparison to any other illness
Take your pick from any statistical site regarding the figures
If you wish to bury your head thats fine, I do hope that you or any of your loved ones are not unlucky enough to contract the illness
