The 'old boy's' nearly did for us, Alfie & Andy, but thank gawd we hung on.
A massive 3 points!
-
That was a squeaky bum 8 mins added time .ffs.
Crewe have conceded in 90+ 7 to put them 2 points adrift too.
-
Improved in many ways but as ever, our terrible defensive work lets us down. We were in control but a series of individual errors put them straight back in this, with a saved penalty as well. We are very slowly improving but defensively it is too often amateur hour. Yet again no clean sheet, for which we must be on for some kind of club record.
-
Thank god for a win and how well we played in parts.
Let's push on now, keep behind them
-
Erm yeah,
Is the problem up front or in defence?
...
-
Still,
Lots to be taken from this game. We can score goals. Saved a pen. Hung on!
-
2 clean sheets out of 13. We have won 3 games and only managed a clean sheet in one of those wins. If we can’t keep them out, it puts pressure on the front lads, who clearly are not the most effective striking threat we have ever had.
-
I would love to know where they got 8 added minutes from. There was the usual injuries and a couple of cramps but 8 minutes! Never in a million years.
Then their manager comes on complaining to the ref after getting a penalty and the gift of 8 extra minutes.
-
Great win. Super goalkeeping. Looked very poor in defence.

it was minimum of 7 mins not 8
-
We were the better team for 60 mins or so but struggled with Alfie and his mobility. They then got corner after corner which we know we're shit at. Overall defensively were alright but we need to improve massively when it comes to set pieces. Going forward today was a lot better. Dodoo must start up front everytime when available until Okenabirhie is back, he is a much better option than Cukur who has no mobility whatsoever.

I am talking about the over 8 minutes actually played.

The players are not fit enough, ran out of steam after 65mins, and then the panic button was pressed and headless chicken mode kicked in
-
WE WON!! happy Saturday everyone
-
This week we are winning and they signal 7 mins of injury time, last week Wycombe were wasting time in the warm up and they signal 3 mins. Where is the consistency, where were the 7 minutes lost to be added on?
COYR

I wasn’t there today, but was it not a case of Cheltenham, with nothing to lose, throwing the kitchen sink at us for the final 25 minutes?
Also bear in mind, this was the first time we’ve played with 3 at the back due to our ‘crazy’ injury run which was compounded on 8 minutes when we lost Tommy Rowe.
It was a game we dare not lose, & true whilst the gloss was somewhat taken off the result by conceding 2 goals when being 3-0 ahead, a win is a win…..& this one was massive for all concerned.
We now go into Tuesday’s game in a totally different frame of mind.

Welcome Paul Green.
-
We had players all over the pitch playing the old soldier, sitting down to create a stoppage and break any momentum. It's frustrating which ever side does it and about time referees dealt with it as today's ref did.
-
Expecting consistency from refs is out of our control and complaining about it only gets the manager booked. It will never change. Even IT-assisted decision-making brings its controversies as we know with VAR.
Fans obviously can’t tell the manager what to say at HT, but RW does not seem to do as well as his opposite numbers.

After the 7mins was announced , 2 Rovers Players went to ground , Williams Scored and Barlow was Subbed on. That lot is worth another 2 mins.
-
What's the situation with the Rowe injury?
-
Loads of positives in that performance..things to work on of course but a million times better than some we have seen. Good to see a set piece goal at last aswell. They are so important.
Easy to criticise near the end but we're a bottom of the league side who's not won much in the past year. Its much harder to see games out when struggling and it showed a bit today. But at times we played some good little moves.

well dodoo went down in injury time aswell as their 2nd goal and Dahl berg also booked for time wasting so was always gonna play more time

We didn't play 3 at the back. It was 4-2-3-1 as normal. Olowu at LB, Galbraith at RB. Rowe started at AM and Smith replaced him like for like.
-
We played a 3 with the ball, 4 without it, Galbraith did it brilliantly.
-
How quick was he to yellow Dahlberg? He seemed to barely have got the ball.
-
Other than booking Dahlberg I thought the ref had a great game
-
Other than booking Dahlberg I thought the ref had a great game
so you saying he got that wrong?????thought he had a decent game full stop
-
Thought it was a bit rough as why should he take it from where Alfie places the ball, that said he had been warned
-
Fingers crossed the defensive midfielder I'm Jan will be the difference.
-
Massive win today.
Thought we were going on to win that 4-0 when we were 3-0 up.
Should have known better as do not think this season we will have many if any comfortable wins.
We are our own worst enemies. We were farting around with the ball in our own half and you could see what was going to happen.
We must learn to game manage a lead better than that.
-
Probably trying to control the game by keeping possession, Campsall.
It's a fine line to tread, do it with confidence and authority and you're away. If you're unsure and on the back foot it invites pressure.
-
Just want to say a massive thank you to Rovers for not only supplying 3 points today but for actually providing an afternoon of sustained entertainment for perhaps the first time this season. Really, really enjoyed the game today and Cheltenham played their part second half too. First half they were utterly abysmal. Easily the worst side i've seen this season based on their first half showing, but second half they got the bit between their teeth at times and arguably they could have won this game on the chances they had.
Overall though a massively improved showing and we dug in and got the win in the bag which is what matters.
Dahlberg again saved the pen and also made some good saves to keep us in it.
Cukur is an absolute waste of space. Young lad. Gets 15 minutes and can't be arsed to even run or chase down their defenders. Disgrace. Not needed at the club that lad IMO. Get rid asap.
Olowu came in and did a really good job.
Anyone know where Taylor was today?
Not sure if we were made to look better than we were due to Cheltenham affording us time and space that the likes of Wycombe would never have and them also being dire first half but it certainly was a lot better performance than we've been used to this season and we'll have a great chance of beating Cambridge on Tuesday playing in the same manner.
Still lots of work to do but our home form is keeping us within touching distance of the pack.
Well done today Richie, Noel and all the players (Cukur aside).

Taylor's injured again.
-
Someone asked Taylor before the game when he'd be back and he shrugged his shoulders and said no idea.
-
A win to be celebrated, we certainly needed it. But we definitely made hard work of it after a very good first 50 mins. We appeared to lose all shape after that and on another day we wouldn’t be walking off with a win.
Desperately need to follow this up with a win on Tuesday and get some confidence back in the team.
-
Also today. All 3 goals. Proper finishes. Well done Joe, Tom and Roddy!
-
Does anyone know when was the last time we were 3-0 ahead in a game.
Before today of course.

That’s very harsh on Curkur CDH
There was a reason he was sub. I am assuming it was because he had put in a hell of a shift at Gillingham which he did. Thought he was excellent on Tuesday.
Or because he was carrying an injury or a mixture of both which I suspect is the reason he looked vey leggy when he came on today.
To call him a waste of space is quite frankly unbelievable. He is 18 yrs old and needs game managing.
He would not be on Watford’s books or be a Turkish U21 international if he was a waste of space.
Bogle maybe fits that description, are you confusing him with Curkur?

You keep getting names wrong, Kampshall.
-
Cukur put in a hell of shift on tuesday?!! Are you sure?
He showed us a lot more than he has done previously at Gillingham but it was hardly dazzling stuff.
When i see players like Galbraith putting himself all over the place and then i see Cukur ambling around, what i see one player who will make a decent career in the game and one who won't.

charlton September 2020?

Cukur actually

Weve p!$$ed a comfortable win up the wall. Lets be absolutely real. 3pts is the most important obviously but lets not deny we had cigar in hand to allow them 2 which is shocking
-
Good result - glad we held on
Time wasting is terrible to watch - remember Wycombe only last week ? They were like kids. Goalkeeper was called forward to take e Free Kick in front of dug outs. He walked slowly and when he got 5 yards from Ball Ainsworth waved his arms indicating NO, not you - get back and so he did.
It was childish and probably a rehearsed "move". As was the Keeper swapping where he takes the GK from - puts it down on one side then decides he will "amble" to other end of 6 yd box. The rule makers decided to let teams take GKs from either side to speed up the restart - and it has done exactly the opposite
I vowed never to say this again but we need a fixed 30 minutes per half which is an average of what a ball in any game is in.
There would still be fake injuries to take pressufe off defending sides but the clock would at least be stopped - and teams would still kill time heading for corner flag - but give them a shove concede a free kick and stop the clock
-
Points are brilliant and if we follow it up with another win the fact we nearly threw it away will be forgotten. As others have said the match provided entertainment as well which is what it's all about in the end.
However going from 3-0 to winning the game thanks to a penalty save shows why we're going to struggle this year. We're so poor at the back we need to score 3 to give us a chance of winning but so poor up front we won't often score 2 in a game.
Hopefully this marks a turning point the goals at least will hopefully give the forwards confidence. Not sure were to start with the defence however it was a bit makeshift today so some lack is probably due.
-
Today reminded me a bit of the Nottingham Forest Boxing Day match in a way, except that we held a 4-0 lead in that game so had an extra bit of cushion.
We had a spectacular recovery after that game.

Really hope this is the case and it's good we play Cambridge next rather than a team at the top to give us a better chance of building on it. Not discounting Cambridge they are the type of physical team we struggle against

After seeing the highlights, both conceded goals were poor - the first Alfie should have closed down and should never have scored from there and Galbraith (I think) lost Williams for the second.

Dickos, surely it's not negative for anyone to criticise our game management and defence today, both of which were poor.
-

could also say Dahlberg made abit of a hash with the 2nd goal
-
Some well taken goals today, no scrappy goals from us there. Great result.

Entertainment is what it's all about?
I'm not so sure.
So often football isn't just entertaining. It's just desperation, or anxiety.
No. What I think football is, is a story, a narrative. It can be brilliant, it can be grim. For me, you have to have bad times to appreciate the good.
And when bad times come along, then you have to grin and bear it.

It was like we had turned a tap off ....................
we were all doing ok .some far better than others but far superior than we have ever been
there was heart and zeal and then it happened ......
The tap was turned off and ohhhhhhhhhhhhh hell
most of us could see points going down the drain ...
i even thought our goalkeeper was pushing it after he had just been booked for time wasting by moving the ball to his right ........oh no here comes a second yellow within a minute ............boy was he more than lucky on that
the guts had gone out of them the effort the crap was back
all gave a sigh of relief at the full time whistle
-
Phew. Needed that. Didn't matter how. So relieved.

Dickos, surely it's not negative for anyone to criticise our game management and defence today, both of which were poor.
I thought the defence was as good today as I’ve seen it, Joseph is a very good player but never had a kick, the young lad at left back was very good and Galbraith was outstanding.
Anderson and Williams were both good today also.
When you’re near the bottom then we were always going to panic a bit near the end.
It’s fine to point out things that didn’t go wrong but only talking about today negatively is wrong.
We were very good for most of it
-
So many aspects of this performance need to be examined by management if we are to benefit and build on it.
This is where the manager and his team come in.
If we don’t progress and improve after this an opportunity will have been missed. I hope RW is up to it.
-
When you are bottom of the league, it’s not just how you hang on. Other teams expect capitulation and play accordingly.
-
After seeing the highlights, both conceded goals were poor - the first Alfie should have closed down and should never have scored from there and Galbraith (I think) lost Williams for the second.
Both goals were poor defending but realistically we could have conceded five or six in the second half - the penalty save and two or three against the woodwork and several other goalmouth scrambles where we couldn’t win the ‘second ball’. When we went three up, we should have been able to close out the game but didn’t have the players, the tactics or the know how to do it and that is something we will need to address if we are going to have a chance of staying in this league.

What a stupid comment. The game SHOULD have finished 3-0. When it went to that score we should have got that clean sheet. Instead we conceded 2 ridiculous goals
-
nevertheless , I enjoyed the wn :scarf:
-
We improved for not having Cukur in the XI. He’s useless.
Agree. He’s terrible. 2 yards behind everything. What’s more shocking is the fact we’ve got ourselves into a position where a kid who should still be in the sixth form is leading our line.

He wasn’t terrible on Tuesday. He led our line very well.
He did not look 100% fit today when he came on.
-
Next three games are important - Cambridge, Charlton and Crewe. After that we have a break as we play Scunny twice in FA Cup and then EFL Trophy and the scheduler 13 November home game against Fleetwood is during international weekend, so we might again have this off. By the time of the 20 November home game against Lincoln City we should have a fully fit squad, barring any new injuries.

I’m not going to argue with you, but I doubt he will score 5 goals this entire season. He shouldn’t be anywhere near our first 11. You are, of course, welcome to disagree

I thought that his speed of thought when he came on was woeful.
A couple of times yesterday his movement was like an afterthought. He should have been buzzing when he came on, as Alfie May was for them.

We need better i agree CC but Richie does not have better to bring on or start does he.
Dodoo though looked like a player yesterday.
-

The defending for May's goal was nothing short of pathetic, it was like it was in slow motion with half arsed efforts of closing him down. Then Williams makes a run at the back post for an easier header he'll ever have, even worse was he almost did exactly the same a few minutes later.
-
Dodoo was massively improved yesterday despite fading a bit second half. His goal was superbly executed and he now needs to kick on and not go another 6/7/8 games without scoring. I still think he's nowhere near good enough but i will change my mind in the next tranche of games should he add a few more to his tally.
-
Dodoo's first touch with the ball coming over his shoulder was sublime and his composure to finish was equal to it.

That’s literally the definition of conditional support eg he is shit and I will maintain he is shit unless he starts scoring and proves he is not shit.
-
Who gives footballers unconditional support? Lunatics.
They aren't volunteers or part time amateurs. They are paid to do a job.
I give the club unconditional support but individual players not a chance, unless it is related to a personal matter such as they have been the victim of racist abuse or they have had to stop playing due to a serious illness for the time being.
I give unconditional support an individual player on a human level but not on a professional level. They are professional and are paid accordingly to do a job.

I see it as a comment on our awful defending, rather than someone desperately trying to defend our defensive frailties. Individually we were ok yesterday, collectively it's embarrassing. The stats tend to prove this over several months.

I’m not going to argue with you, but I doubt he will score 5 goals this entire season. He shouldn’t be anywhere near our first 11. You are, of course, welcome to disagree
When he came on we needed someone to let their defenders know they were there, he did the exact opposite & contributed absolutely nothing.
