What on earth has been going on at Yorks CCC with this racism.
Really poor state of affairs and how was the club able to have an internal inquiry but not an independent one. If the latter had happened then surely all this would have been dealt with when Asim Rafiq made the original allegations.
It is 2 years ago and should have been dealt with immediately but the club just brushed it under the table and have now created a desperate situation for themselves financially. Shot themselves in the foot they have.
Worse still is us, the supporters ( members ) are going to suffer also.
I have already bought tickets for the first 3 days of the Headingley Test match v New Zealand next June. The match is now it would seem be taken away from Headingley as they have been banned from hosting international Cricket.
I hope Garry Balance who has admitted using racist language in so called banter with Rafiq is not going to be used as the scapegoat. There has been obviously a lot more to this within the club.
It needs an independent inquiry and the people at the top of the club should be the ones who’s heads should role. They are the ones that have tried to cover this up and sweep it under the carpet.
I await further developments and hope the damage can be repaired and a new all inclusive era can begin for the club.
Pity the Football authorities can’t take such decisive action as the ECB have with Yorkshire with regard to racism.
Hungary and most of the Eastern European countries just get a rap on the wrist from EUFA and the English Football fans are not exempt from racism either.
A very sad state of affairs that the Cricket Club i have supported so enthusiastically since 1963 is deemed institutionally racist.

Sponsors pulling out left right and centre.
This is not good.
-
Despite numberous games in the Champions League and half a Championship schedule last night the first 10 minutes of SS News at Ten was all about this. Can't believe even going back 10 years people thought this was acceptable behaviour and could anyway be considered light hearted. Like you Campsall I think there's a lot to more to come.

Cricket is a religion in UK Asian communities.
If Yorkshire still enforced the must be born in Yorkshire rule, then they would still have a huge talent pool in Asian communities to draw from in Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Rotherham.
If there is one institution in Yorkshire that should be a bastion of equal opportunity then it is Yorkshire CCC.

Agreed, although I did see an (unverified) stat on Twitter today that 40% of amatuer players in the UK are Asian/of Asian descent but only 4% of professional players are.

A cultural thing. Sport still isn't seen as a serious career. They still want their kids to grow up to be something sensible and respected, most likely a doctor.

Maybe those that are in professions want their children to follow suit. Vast majority would see professional sport as a very worthwhile career imo.

It's a slow process. I know a Sri Lankan lady whose son plays for Notts. They are all so proud and they can see the money he's starting to earn. As they absorb the reality of such stories then opinions will change.

So what are you saying Brian? There are quite obviously some serious racist problems within the club.
The whole thing has been whitewashed by the hierarchy at the club.
They need to resign Brian and get some fresh blood running the club.
Personally I think Martin Moxon and Andrew Gale need replacing not because I think they are racist but purely based on Moxon has been at the club for a very long time and sometimes you can be in the same job too long. A new face at the helm would beneficial imo. As for Gale i am not convinced he is a top coach and certainly no where near the standard Gillespie was as his predecessor.
Clean sweep needed at he club. Maybe the current situation will see this happen.

Don't assume it was all one way
It’s attitudes like this that have made it into the problem it has become, extremely disappointed to see it on here. The defence that Ballance was called “Zimbo”is frankly laughable.
The club is institutionally racist and the entire board should resign. Sponsors pulling out and test matches being shelved is a desperate situation but no less than we deserve. It’s going to be a long, long road back from here to rebuild bridges with both the local and wider cricketing community.

it's extremely sad and frustrating that it has come to this, that a grown bunch of (I presume) men cannot grasp the nettle and sort it out and chuck those out that will not change or with little chance of rehabilitating themselves and do not understand the harm that they do by inaction, mates or not.
There are no excuses.

My money is this is not the only county that will be dragged over the coals in the days, weeks, months to come. Yorkshire may be first but I seriously doubt it will be the last.

Might be 2 sides. But the Club are not helping themselves at all.

Some of the problem is racist language gets used but often the people using it are not racists.
What was deemed acceptable 10/15 years ago and was considered banter is now not acceptable language.
This is often a generation thing also and I am sure I have used words about Asian people that are not now acceptable and are deemed racist.
But i am in no way a racist and always treat people as i find them no matter what their race, colour or religion.
I just think it’s lack of education or knowledge in knowing the difference in having banter and unacceptable words or language.
Having said all that I am not condoning anything that has gone on at Headingley and obviously it needs sorting once and for all.
As someone else said I am sure Yorks CCC are not completely on there own with this problem.
Let’s face it it is endemic throughout society including possibly all sports.

Go on youtube and watch episodes of Love thy Neighbour, will all those actors if they ate still alive be villified for historical racism, we’ve moved, what was acceptable then is not today
-
Well Asim grew up in my town when he came here from Pakistan in the very early 2000's .
Attended Holgate school and played as a youngster for Barnsley at Shaw Lane .
I've never met the lad but I'm reliably informed by a couple of lads I know who watch Barnsley in the summer that our Asim ain't exactly a great kid , to say the least .
It doesn't alter the fact Yorkshire are bang to rights and have conducted themselves extremely poorly by the way .
I'll leave it at that .
-
I think it was Ian Chapple, when he took up punditry and dropped the f-bomb a couple of times said, I tried to stop doing it but it just slips out, so I stopped swearing, period'

Love Thy Neighbour was a parody aimed at showing up white racial prejudice. It's a pity we haven't learned much from it.

So the UK is still set in the 1970's then ?
Jack Smethhurst , Bernard Manning would still be top of the bill then ?
Your the reason Labour don't get elected .
Clown !!.

Only one clown here if you can't see that racism hasn't gone away. In fact, it was openly used as a tool in persuading people to vote to leave the EU!
-
Tyke1962. If you remember Love thy neighbour Rudolph Walker who played Jack Smethurst’s neighbour was also quite verbal and called his neighbour names
People always forget that
That is in no way excusing what has happened. I’m just making a point about being rounded
-
The problem in this saga is less about the individual and the language used, unacceptable though it is. It's about the unbelievable handling of the inquiry by YCC, club management who really ought to know how toxic and wrong that kind of language now is.
IMO, not only have they done major harm to YCC but have reinforced from within the stereotype that northerners are course and stupid.

Barney Ronay wrote it up and is not impressed by the way it was handled.

Your just too far up your own so called liberal ass to realise it .

Tyke you are absolutely right, don’t forget the inference that they were all too weak minded to make up their own minds too and only voted for it because of media and facebook

I think brexiters should be given a bit of room, imagine oneself in their current position, they swallowed the propaganda about sovereignty, the hoards coming to take their jobs and that it was the end of little britain as we know it (especially the crickety bit)
Now they have to swallow the daily bucket of shite that is served up in the form of a tanking economy that the hoards are actually needed and the government breaking the law, conventions, parliamentary rules and is very close to screwing over the Good Friday Agreement.
It's time to make peace and for them to say to remainers that 'we royally f**ked up and we would like to turn the clock back and you were right'
there that should do it aye?
-
They voted to reduce immigration and ended up with more migrants than ever before!
One day they will realise that what they thought they were voting for was not what those promoting Brexit wanted.
-
Guess you hit a raw nerve there Tyke, outing ppl as hypocritical will do that

I personally don’t think like that
-
It would appear that we have fallen short from staff shortages due to workers going home after the Brexit vote
Why don’t we take a step back 30-40 years and stop handing out benefits to everyone
It could be a good idea to suggest to the life long dolers that they could try getting a job to help fill the void in workers
Or is that a bit too radical and anti woke

Liz the Truss, The Telegraph.
''Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has laid out plans for the UK to become the "beating heart of a global network of liberty", according to the Sunday Express. The paper says the minister's pledge to "deliver jobs of the future" comes ahead of a trip to south-east Asia''
''Ahead of a crucial tour of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand''
Hmmm, I wonder what those jobs of the future will be and why it'd so crucial? maybe she has been listening to Phil and any that can't get work will get a working visa in one of those countries?
The 'beating heart of a global network of liberty' sounds a bit like a old commonwealth where Britain resumes all the pink bits.

It’s amazing NNK you continue to prove Tyke right

Isn't this the job of the Trade Minister? At least it was when Liz Truss was the Trade Minister?
I would have thought the Foreign Secretary would have more important political issues to be getting on with - top of the list being the wife of a bloke on hunger strike outside the Foreign Office complaining they wont help get her out of an Iranian jail.

So it's racist to have concerns about population growth that can potentially put pressure on services , housing and infrastructure .
Wouldn't it be extremely naive to think that friction won't exist between host populations and migrant groups as a consequence ? .

No, it isn't racist to have concerns about population growth, but it is racist to use the tactics shown above to incite people to vote against their best interests!
But then again, you're the guy who would rather see the Tories in power making a complete mess of practically everything they touch than do something practical about it!

https://www.express.co.uk/comment/expresscomment/1469481/Brexit-news-EU-bullying-brexit-lies-boris-johnson-daily-express-brexit-poll
So tell me, how many of these promises did you believe?
http://infacts.org/johnsons-broken-referendum-promises-there-were-loads/
So it's racist to have concerns about population growth that can potentially put pressure on services , housing and infrastructure .
Wouldn't it be extremely naive to think that friction won't exist between host populations and migrant groups as a consequence ? .
Does that Euro flag tied round your neck cut off the blood supply to your brain ?
I'm all ears .
No, it isn't racist to have concerns about population growth, but it is racist to use the tactics shown above to incite people to vote against their best interests!
But then again, you're the guy who would rather see the Tories in power making a complete mess of practically everything they touch than do something practical about it!
Oh, and you still haven't answered the question I asked - no surprise there!
There's no question to answer .
What escapes you is you believe EVERY leave voter was influenced by the the leave campaign that began just before the 2016 referendum .
I'd have voted to leave the European Union or EEC as far back as the early 90's .
My mind was made up over 20 years before I ever got the chance to vote to leave .
The likes of Gove , Johnson , Mogg and Farage never influenced me because I personally pre date them by two decades .
I'm Dennis Skinner or Tony Benn matey .
If the Labour Movement was so convinced by the EU then why did Blair promise on two occasions to offer a referendum on remaining within it ? .
If people such as yourself want to play the race card and sneer at the lack of intelligence of leave voters then you ain't having it with me pal .
You like to call yourselves Liberals or better educated but the truth is your every bit as prejudice towards anyone who doesn't fall in to line with your vision as Tommy Robinson is with the Muslim faith .
Which you've demonstrated perfectly well on this thread and many others on this topic .
You will not silence the likes of me with your incessant racist ramblings thrown at people who don't see it your way .
The greatest spectacle on this topic is the bloke who resides in Sydney Australia who have some of the toughest immigration rules in the world commenting on free movement and Liberalism .
You couldn't make it up .
I'm alright Jack springs to mind .
Essence of a Tory you may well say .
Yet he as well as yourself seem to believe I contribute to Tory governments .
What clearly escapes many is that a vote for Labour constitutes to the same shyte show .
Starmer is every bit as corrupt as Johnson with every pre Labour election leadership promise broken .
The difference with myself is I wouldn't vote for either of these charlatans .
So whose the dummy now then ?
-
Those that voted for Blair were voting for a pro-Euro party.

I live in Batley, plenty of Asian’s around here. It’s a bit of a lazy stereotype to think that all Asian families expect their kids to be doctors!

Go on youtube and watch episodes of Love thy Neighbour, will all those actors if they ate still alive be villified for historical racism, we’ve moved, what was acceptable then is not today
There's nobody in the UK who shows more prejudicial traits than your average Joe EU referendum loser .
The amount of bile composed on this forum by yourself on the subject is something that should shame you .
The racist card .
The thicko card .
All spewed out of your gob because you lost a referendum .
Your as prejudice as any far right fanatic .
Your just too far up your own so called liberal ass to realise it .
Oh , your welcome .
Only one thicko here pal, and that's you....
Racist is as racist does!
So you assume everyone who voted to leave the EU reads the Daily Mail and Express ? .
The facts are that less than 5 million people read the Daily Mail and Express .
Hmm 17 million voted to leave the EU .
I sincerely hope you haven't emptied your gun fella going all Daily Mail and Express .
I'm here for the foreseeable .
Your go .
I don't assume any such thing. Racist propaganda wasn't restricted to the Mail and the Express, it even appeared on posters....
I wonder where he got the idea from?
Of course, you know who used those posters and what that led to too!
Then there was the media coverage of the ultra right wing factions who were quite happy to push the racism card!
I know quite a number of people who voted leave because of "all these foreigners" 'taking our jobs', taking our school places', taking our hospital places' - select relevant excuse as necessary. I also know quite a few people who didn't care about the Irish issue that would occur., even when it was pointed out to them - many still don't!
And as the situation worsens the Mail has the nerve to wonder why!

There's no question to answer .
What escapes you is you believe EVERY leave voter was influenced by the the leave campaign that began just before the 2016 referendum .
No I do not, nor have I said any such. You seem to have a habit of making things up to suit your argument
Then you're an exception that proves the rule. Most people I know, (and many of them voted leave), couldn't give a damn about the EU before the referendum and were perfectly happy to get on with their lives. They only became leavers following the lies that were propagated by the leave campaigns.
If the Labour Movement was so convinced by the EU then why did Blair promise on two occasions to offer a referendum on remaining within it ? .
There you go, two broken promises by Blair and you criticise Starmer! Then again, maybe Blair had a change of heart and worked it out that we're better off in the EU? Who knows
If people such as yourself want to play the race card and sneer at the lack of intelligence of leave voters then you ain't having it with me pal .
Racism is endemic in our society, it has a lot to do with lack of intelligence and was certainly a contributor to the leave victory. The West Indian cricketer and commentator Michael Holding was on the TV this morning and stated quite clearly that "racism isn't restricted to Yorkshire Cricket, all of cricket, or sport in total - it's societal"; and until we grasp that nettle we will continue to have issues. I'd rather believe someone like him than some bloke on a football forum
You like to call yourselves Liberals or better educated but the truth is your every bit as prejudice towards anyone who doesn't fall in to line with your vision as Tommy Robinson is with the Muslim faith .
Which you've demonstrated perfectly well on this thread and many others on this topic .
I don't call myself a Liberal, nor do I claim to be better educated - bit I am totally against racism and it's abuse politically
You will not silence the likes of me with your incessant racist ramblings thrown at people who don't see it your way .
I'm not trying to silence the likes of you, I'm trying to get you to understand that racism is very bad and that it's use for political ends is evil
The greatest spectacle on this topic is the bloke who resides in Sydney Australia who have some of the toughest immigration rules in the world commenting on free movement and Liberalism .
You couldn't make it up .
I'm alright Jack springs to mind .
The fact that he lives in a country with very restrictive immigration rules doesn't necessarily mean he agrees with them. But I'll leave it to him to clarify that point. What I will say is, he has every right to comment as he sees fit on this forum irrespective of where he lives - just as you have the same right irrespective of the team you support
Essence of a Tory you may well say .
Yet he as well as yourself seem to believe I contribute to Tory governments .
It's been pointed out to you by others that your stance on this is such that it is an enabler to a continuing Tory government which, given the current disgraceful and corrupt shower, is tantamount to picking the worst of two evils.
What clearly escapes many is that a vote for Labour constitutes to the same shyte show .
Starmer is every bit as corrupt as Johnson with every pre Labour election leadership promise broken .
Erm, how can you break election promises when you've not been elected?
The difference with myself is I wouldn't vote for either of these charlatans .
Given our current electoral system, (which I strongly disagree with and am a firm believer in Proportional Representation), there are only two parties likely to be elected. Given your stance, as pointed to above, you're part of the problem; not the solution.
So whose the dummy now then ?
Anyone who can't see racism for the poison that it is and fails to call it out in all its forms.

because he's very much like tyke, he hasn't got a coherent argument so he uses insults and winds ups, any other questions Steve?

Tyke offers very coherent arguments.
A bit silly to state otherwise.

The title of the thread is Yorkshire CCC
It was intended that the discussion on this thread was about the situation at the cricket club.
Please can you take your political agenda’s and your bickering and personal insults to one of the dozens of other threads that are about politics, Brexit etc etc.
That would be appreciated. Thank you.
Back to the thread title. This new Chairman has said all the right things today.
Let’s hope the actions are as good as the words.
Think he might just be the man to sort it all out.
Sounds as though he is hopeful of getting the sponsors back on side and not given up hope we may see International Cricket at Headingley next summer..
Some very decisive action will need to happen very quickly if either of those two things are going to happen.
Think a few heads are going to roll in the next few weeks.

I want to see you call out all the threads where you get involved CP, all of them.

I want to see you call out all the threads where you get involved CP, all of them.
CR not CP
Sydney you have lost me. What do you mean you want me to call out all the threads where i get involved
That post was not aimed specifically at you.
The whole thread has gone completely off the topic.
Sorry I do not get that. Please explain

If you are going to be a moderator all threads and topics that go off the rails call them out, easy.

If you are going to be a moderator all threads and topics that go off the rails call them out, easy.
Sydney I am not trying to be a moderator.
I started the thread and it was titled Yorkshire CCC
That’s what I intended the thread to be about. Yes i would like to moderate my own thread. Is that a problem?
You see your even trying to make an issue out of that and i wasn’t even aiming at you. But now you mention it you are one of the biggest culprits.

CR, maybe you should have a wander baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack through this thread and see who threw the first insult and apologise where required.
added: I guess number 21 would be a good place to start with a wind comment about politics and an insult all very predictable.
-
Well put CR
I was about to post "It's just not Cricket" yesterday as the Thread had veered spectacularly as many others do away from where it started
Most Off topic ones give chance to get political [and as such are easy to avoid] but I wouldnt have thought Yorkshire CCC would have gone off the subject so spectacularly & needlessly as there are ample other Threads for people to vent their spleens
* I did used to post on the political ones - and sometimes do an odd one - but largely they are a waste of time because most people have fixed entrenched positions, stances & opinions and those with opposite viewpoints to minr & so will never be persuaded by any Post of mine whether I do one or 1,000 AND of course I would never be swayed from my entrenched positions
So if I see a Thread with an obvious political subject I am able to dip into it and dip out as soon as it degenerates which is fine - I can use my own judgement - but I would hope that Yorkshire CCC, Birdwatching at Bempton or The best Chippy in Donny are places where I might not need such judgement

Also got tickets for NZ test (Day 3, Emerald Stand) and had that email also.
It's a bit strange that they are still for sale on the YCC site though..... perhaps should have halted sales for now?

My money is this is not the only county that will be dragged over the coals in the days, weeks, months to come. Yorkshire may be first but I seriously doubt it will be the last.
I said YCCC wouldn’t be the only county to get hauled over the coals

BBC report that Azeem Rafiq has apologised for sending anti Semitic messages which he has now deleted
I wonder if he will now be vilified for his historical foolishness as all the people he has accused have been or whether his apology will be noted and put on the back burner as a mistake
I don’t know what he does now but will he be expected to resign due to his historical behaviour

Wow ! This has been front page on the bbc site all week yet this revelation is about 4 stories down. Gobsmacked when i saw it.
The pot calling the kettle something, really not sure what
-
Told you earlier in the thread it would not be one way.
-
I wonder if Yorkshire will discipline him as other county’s have to other cricketers this season who have over stepped the mark
-
His anti semetic tweets are as bad as some of the stuff he has accused others of doing, people in glass houses eh?
-
One of the BBC headlines this week said...
Azeem Rafiq: 'A trailblazer who has created a watershed moment'....
and also headlined with....
English cricket is "institutionally" racist..... according to Rafiq.
Seems like he is part of the institution....
-
Such a hypocrite
What’s the old saying about throwing stones if you live in a glass house
-
Two wrongs don’t make a right.
That’s another old saying.

Racial, some years ago I was taking Rana who later played for Sussex Yorkshire and Pakistan back to Bradford after a game. He was young and had had a great trophy series out in the middle east and thought he could be in the Pakistani touring side to come to England later that summer.
While driving we had BBC sports news on as they were announcing the touring party, he was not selected and actually I could see he was upset, and asked him how he was feeling, his answer was disappointed but not surprised as he wasn't as highly born as the player they had selected. I was shocked at that answer.
-
I'm surprised you were shocked selby, the privilege and entitlement has been around since adam ......
-
Syd, that's the difference between you and me even years ago, it didn't enter my head that an off field reason like that could still be the reason not to select someone to play a game of cricket.
You obviously think it just a way of life and accept it.

Sorry if I offended it was not intentional!

I was not offended I was just trying to make the point of the ridiculousness off society today.
I’m sorry it was misunderstood

Nah not politics - personal vendettas.
Shame as it is a hugely important subject but like many topics which show people up in a negative light - some posters what to get it straight off topic.

Again. Thought we had gone back to the subject. But hey ho same people just want to tun it political.

What do you expect when the same people are offensive, that's what the topic is about being offensive, or did you miss that bit?
Some are so sensitive they want to be called by their full name aye campsall?
I wonder what it feels like to be in a minority group if you are extra sensitive, maybe if the original sin was called out such as the anti-Semitic behaviour the other stuff wouldn't have happened? I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone anywhere near cricket would not have known this was going on, cricket over many decades has been one of the worst if not the worst sport for abuse of each other and for fans abusing players. All those that walked by this should hang their heads in shame.

''‘We’ll never be accepted’: Yorkshire’s Asian community absorbs Rafiq story
The cricket racism scandal has led some to consider why good people say nothing about bigotry and abuse''
''Every year, a British Asian small business owner in West Yorkshire sends his neighbour a card and leaves a gift on his doorstep. And every year, without fail, that neighbour ignores him.
“Ever since we moved in, he won’t look at me and my family; he doesn’t respond when we say ‘hello’. He even planted conifers so we couldn’t see into his garden and he can’t see us,” the man, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “But I still send him Christmas cards and buy him a gift. He won’t even open the door when I knock, so I just leave it on the doorstep.”

Anyway, I’m sure that people don’t want to read your attempts at defending your slip up and my trying to explain it to you so I won’t be joining in again after your usual “ I need the last word on this” post so dip your bread lad.

Sorry to intruded in the personal feuding and go back to the topic, but I though Sajid Javid's comments that YCC were 'stuck in the dark ages' on Sky this morning were interesting as it shows where the government is at. Which is worrying for the immediate future for Yorkshire cricket:

There is a lot more to come out. Which is why Yorkshire still haven't released the report about the investigations into Rafiq's allegations of racist behaviour in the county. And thus ensuring that racism was not present in all levels of Yorkshire cricket. Oh, yes, there is a lot to come out.

Great appointment today at Yorks CCC in Darren Gough as director of Cricket or whatever his title is.
Quite surprised he was interested but delighted. Has a great cricket brain, a positive attitude and is very personable.
Good start in rebuilding the clubs reputation. Will be interesting to see who gets the head coach job.
