Title: Away form
Post by: Chris Black come back on February 22, 2025, 06:00:10 pm
Admittedly we have played one more away game (17) than home games (16) but the win today means we have now accrued more points away (30) than at home (28).

Nobody else in the top seven places has anything like this. Not sure it means much but it is an oddity. As examples, Walsall have 14 more points at home and AFC Wimbledon 15 more points at home.

I think the home teams try to play more expansive football which suits us on the counter, at home teams sit deep and let us have the ball where we don't seem to have a clue how to penetrate them

That should change now if Street stays in the team.

Yes I expected us to be better away and there is one obvious reason that "contributes" you have all missed   _ young Clough has always said how his team raises there game when they come to a "Stadium"  as opposed to an away ground.

anyhow I just got this present surprise   that we are top of the away table and how low Bradford are at this moment in time

https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/bradford-city/league-table/away

update

if you had to guess who had lost the least amount of matches away you wouldn't guess it in a dozen attempts

Colchester with 3 defeats   in fact they have only lost 7 matches all season

Also I didn't realise Port Vale have only lost 6 matches all season

This.

Kinda reminds me of Corporal Jones title winning team of 2012/13 when our away form kept up the top, somehow managing to find a way to win on the road, when our home football was a bit more sketchy.

We all know what happened there when a crossbar made a difference between being crowned Champions or having to endure the play offs.

Could it be that tight again this season?

We were generally awful that season.

We got the job done but it was seat of pants stuff with what must be the biggest Tier 3 budget in our history. £8m is the figure in my head for that year's expenditure. Wasn't much enjoyment watching us grind out 1-0s.

Like this year, just relying on spending plenty on players that are generally better than the ones the opposition have and hoping they grind out wins.

We spend more on players than most of our opponents do.

We have a massively deep squad compared with our rivals. Our wage bill must be pretty big. That’s a huge advantage. Are we getting value for money, that’s perhaps another question.

In cold hard business terms, we are in the top 2 and that could be described to TB as value if we finish in this position!
Is it good to watch is another thing altogether. There are signs we are finding some little bits of nice play form, but the majority (for me) is bang average league 2 kick n chase fair.

But we are not second in real terms are we? More like 6th but for having played 1 game more.

Games in hand have to be won though for us to drop down. We have a bigger squad than most and a game or too fewer in which players can be injured or red carded.
Port Vale have a striker problem and another one red carded yesterday meaning missing the next three games. I think that there will be a lot more twists and turns before the season is over.
We can only hope to keep our nerve and keep winning.

We are still 2nd if the games in hand aren’t won.

No, all three teams directly below us only need a draw to go above us.

So, we are still second if games in hand are lost then. ;-)
