Title: Newcastle United
Post by: Pancho Regan on March 16, 2025, 06:54:26 pm
I’m so chuffed for Newcastle Utd finally winning a trophy after all those years.

Their fans are brilliant and they deserve their day in the sun. An amazing sight at Wembley with those acres of black and white.

And how amazing to see our old centre forward Graeme Jones being part of the celebrations.

Bit torn on this one, I always used to like Newcastle in the Keegan/Shearer days and their fans generally are a good bunch but it's impossible to shake off the sovereign fund stench associated with the club these days.

Fully deserved today though, Liverpool barely even made a game of it.

Fair comment Nick, I’m just chuffed for the fans and for Eddy Howe

And of course as Rovers in Spain says in his thread, our old hero Paul Barnes will be a proud Dad tonight.

Special one for Dan Burn winning a trophy for his boyhood club. Some header.

Are you serious?

Newcastle supporters are possibly the best fans in the country.
Did you see that today?

Not often i disagree with you CBCB but i can think of a much worse club with awful fans not far from here.

I get the general point but they are just another petrostate funded entity winning a trophy. The refreshing change will be if Forest or even Bournemouth make it into the ECL. I had hoped to see Newcastle win nothing for as long as possible.

I only saw the second half after getting back home from a golf day but what I saw of it, Newcastle were the better side and after the second goal they all ran their blood to water to protect the lead.
They did deserve to win.

How did you play Graham? Still too cold for me to venture out onto the course just yet!

My first outing since early November mate and finished with a steady 32 points at the KP Club.
So I was quite happy with that today.

Some header but what were Liverpool thinking giving him not only a free header but also 3 practices to get his range !

Ffs they didn't even take any corrective action after going 1 down and still left their smallest Player to attempt to block him in 2nd half

Akin to a 50 year old Gate trying to stop a factory fresh JCB getting past it

LFC were abysmal compared to how they have been playing up until lately

Why don't teams put players on the posts anymore at corner kicks?

The number of goals from corners, at all levels, that are conceded by not doing so....

A Swindon defender on the post at the last home game would have played Billy onside so I wish they had done it.

Haven’t Bournemouth been fined for financial fair play, and the Notts Forest owner was rumoured to do some very underhand dealings

Credit to Eddie Howe, I know there's question marks over the ownership but due to financial fair play he's not been able to just go out and spunk a load of cash. Nearly all his signings have been very shrewd and some with great re-sale potential. I'm not sure if Dan Ashworth has been behind some of them?

Fans don't care where the money comes from even if it comes from human rights abuses and/or slavery.

It is probably about as good as it gets for Newcastle I would say.

Won't make top 4 and Isak, Gordon and Bruno willl leave.

Isaak likely to move if they get CL or not. He should be playing for a big club.

A big club ? In Europe maybe, but Newcastle are a big club, in this country you are more likely to see meet a Newcastle fan than a Tottenham fan. Pre Premiership days Newcastle and Leeds were big teams fan base wise than Chelsea,Tottenham and Man City

Big club more because of the size of the city and their fans plus the stadium than anything to do with trophies.

This season will be classed as a failure for them if they don't get top 4 considering how bad some of the others have been.

They still are bigger Draytonian at least two of the clubs you mentioned now depend on foreign tourists to fill seats and if they fall away they will lose them in the future.
Leeds are different they cash in on Yorkshire being a successful club desert, they came from a bog standard 2nd division club in the 1950's and had twelve  years of success with a nucleus of home grown superstars and are still cashing in on it, and a single city club with nothing to the east coast and between Manchester to the west, and are crowd full of hangers on basically.

Revenue, only one measure, and Newcastle are nowhere compared to the major English clubs. Just a bit ahead of West Ham.

Only because they stop the Newcastle and Manchester City owners putting what they want in, their own money at that, while other clubs like Manchester United spend money they haven't got and rack up dept.

They are global brands but only in the last 20 years, if Newcastle were to have a quarter of either of their success in the next 20 years it would dwarf both of them

There are geordies all over the world, and they are very much one club supporters from all the North East clubs, and their kids are brought up the same way.
They are already laying off workers in the Man U shirt factory in Turkey.
