Another massive game for us, what game isn't at this stage of the season, against a side just below us in fifth place but with our game in hand if we can get a win could inflict a big injury to their hopes of overhauling us as we can go five points in front of them with still the game in hand.
One thing for sure they will be well aware of the position and will do all they can to overcome us on the day, something I hope we can match and win the game, our support of the team could be all the difference, and we need to behind the team to a man, and hopefully turn out in large numbers.
Yesterdays late flurry of goals, although at another game really pulled my nerves especially with a rotten link on the radio, Buxton not in the best area for broadcasting, but all's well that ends well they say.
In the game at Wimbledon earlier in the season they set out to try and bully us, one of the worst fouls this season went unpunished so early in the game that seemed to upset a young side and obviously a ploy to sort us out early, and we came away licking our wounds losing 1-0 and a little bit of a bad taste in our mouths.
Yesterday they won 1-0 v Harrogate Town making their last six game record won2 lost2 drawn 2 not at their best but a hard game in prospect with a lot at stake.
Late goals for and late goals against have been a feature of our last two games Walsall's equaliser a big blow to us, and we need to be aware of fighting to the last whistle and finally try and find a little better home form at the most important period of the season, winning as many games as we can to the end of the season our main priority if we are to get automatic promotion.
My gut feeling is this game makes or breaks us, sends us into the remaining games in good form to play games in a hard finish to the season if we win, or apprehensive if we lose, so we really do need to win this game with hard games to follow, us probably on paper the hardest finish to the season of the top sides.
It is nothing less than exciting, and a big test for all connected to the club, with a big reward if we can prove good enough for the test in front of us, concentration, ambition, and application plus any strokes luck that are going important to the finish we can attain.
Lots to talk about as ever, who is fit? who would you pick? are we good Enough? can we roar and inspire them home in the home games? can we show our best form at the right time? all questions and more please have your say.
-
They are not in amazing form. Three wins in their last ten games. Their away form really isn’t great. Two wins in their last ten away games and they were single goal victories against poor sides in Carlisle and Newport. They don’t lose that many away though, so a draw looks fairly likely.
-
I feel a little happier about the game now McGrath is fit. I thought he improved things yesterday when he came on for wood, albeit a decision forced by wood being on a yellow. I would definitely be more comfortable with Anderson and McGrath instead of Anderson and Wood. I reckon it’s going to be another nervy affair.
-
Anderson and Wood have played in three games two clean sheets while on the field of play and seven points and unbeaten, hard to change, no good looking good for 89minutes 59 seconds of a game, and losing. The only thing open to us now is, whatever we have to do to do so is find a way to win.

Fair point

FYI less than 450 tickets for the south stand remain
-
Update approximately 365 left in the south stand, get them will you can
-
First time in the family stand with my 7 year old daughter so hoping she enjoys her first game. If we win I might even take her to the Bradford game!!
-

I loathe this unallocated seating malarkey. No doubt we will sell all those tickets, yet large swathes of seats will still be available that we would likely have sold. Surely it’s costing the club money? Not a guarantee that people just buy in other areas

It's a game by the club to make numpties turn on the unreserved. The stand could be 100% sold if they wanted. Remove the unreserved and you've got one of the flattest dullest atmospheres there is which it borderline is in most grounds anyway. If you want reserved you've got 2 sometimes 3 stand which are not full 99.9999999% of the time. Go take your pick
The prawn sandwich attitude is exactly why no atmosphere would get generated. "Steward that man waved his flag and I missed two seconds of the match"

I get your objection, cc but the change does seem to have resolved the ever present protests by those who wish/need to be seated when confronted by people in seats in front of them choosing to stand through the entire game.

On Saturday I could take us being absolutely rubbish as long as we find a way to win, and if we do, being an early KO it will put any of the other sides around us who kick off later under even more pressure.
-
Win Saturday and I think it puts the race for top 3 down to 5 teams and us in pole position
-
It's a possibility that if results go our way, we could be top of the league with goal difference swinging in our favour with a convincing win and Bradford losing by two or three. Unlikely I know, but these are the twists and turns that could see the top spot exchange a few more times yet over the remaining games.
I'll take a low scoring win though in a tight game. (What's new!)
-
DBR, if there’s one thing it’s not going to be, it’s us winning convincingly! This is the Donny way. We’ll make it very hard for ourselves, like we always do.

Crewe play Cheltenham on Thursday and Notts play Salford on Friday night so that could be either two with only an outside chance of play offs in Crewe and top three in Notts or wins for both can put more pressure on those us included
-

Absolutely! Is anybody really naive enough to think we'll win the game in hand when we play it? We've seen it all before :D
-
A win at Salford will be essential for auto promotion chances.
-
No it won’t, being pedantic. It doesn’t matter which games we get points from, as long as we get enough..
-

A point wouldn’t be the end of the world there
-
As long as we get more points than anyone else then that will do for me
-
I will be up (from London) with two of my daughters for AFC Wimbledon match. Driving up on Friday. As some of you will be aware I tend to get to more away games than home ones, but it will be good to see it with them. I am hoping to take my grandaughter to her first rovers game sometime next season. Her Dad wants her to see his team Arsenal first. My daughters already follow Rovers over Chelsea (where my other half is from) so I'm doing the hard work of getting fans for the future. It's what we do isn't it? I support rovers because my Dad has since the 50's. He does because his Dad did. Last night a friend of mine convinced me to get to the game against Bradford. Didn't take much convincing in truth. Got a train ticket and ticket for match. Just over £70 all in which I don't suppose is bad. That game will be just me though. Anyway, looking forward to the run in. Think Rovers can do it, but we never seem to make it easy for ourselves.
-
Hope you booked an early train - it’s an early KO vs. Bradford..
-
Yes, I did thankfully. :rtid:
-
194 tickets left in the south stand show be a good atmosphere, let's cheer the boys onto another high scoring win
-
Wimbledon have sold 670 tickets.
-
We need 10 points from the remaining 6 games.
-
I think we’ll win the next four and then it’ll be done and dusted.
-
If they play the same tactics as they did in the return game at Wimbledon the match could do with a strong referee.
Broadbent especially was singled out for some dubious treatment that game and they generally out muscled us.
In that game there were 7 yellows dished out, 4 to us and 3 to them the first of which would have been a straight red on another day.
So I envisage a hard game when they will be well happy with a point, and the type of game we generally find hard and will have to play well, if we do we have it in us to get the win we need, and could well be in a good place come Saturday evening to achieve our ambitions of automatic promotion.
-
The ref is Neil Hair
Season 24/25 he’s only referred 11 games, with 51 yellow and 2 reds
L1 - 3 games
L2 - 4
Nat L -2
FLT - 1
L Cup - 1
-
Last rovers game was 24/10/23 at home to Salford, which we lost 0-3
5 voted in rate the ref scoring
3 - 1
2 - 1
1 - 2
O - 1
lets just hope he’s improved, although doubtful considering he’s done 11 games this season!
-
Looking at the comments on Twitter, the Bradford fans are saying he’s an awful ref.
-
I know it’s stating the obvious, but we have to win on Saturday. It’s a brutal run of games for us, playing Saturday, Tuesday, Friday and Monday. 4 games in 9 days is tough at any level. I know we were missing a few when we were meant to play Salford originally, but it’s created a real tough week at the business end. Fingers crossed we have enough in the squad to cope.
We know players become susceptible to injury when they are overloaded and a game every 2 days is extremely punishing
-
t**tting 4.30am kick off for me. f**king Sky.
-
We could have done with a strong ref….unfortunately we haven’t got one so it’s a green light for Wimbledons bullying tactics, thankfully we are a lot stronger now to stand up to them (especially having overcome Cheltenham last game)
-
Looking at the clubs social media. You would hardly know there is a big game tomorrow.

Apologies if the link doesn't work but the social media I'm looking at plus the prematch interviews, there's definitely a game on!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
All regular match goers will know about this fixture, and it’s importance, and also how to get tickets.
Anyone else with a passing interest in the football and who has access to the internet, can find out everything they need to know in a couple of minutes.
The fixture list and the league table is enough to generate interest.
However if there was a special promotion for ticket offers, then yes, market the hell out of it.
-
Still those should be having offers on to fill the ground imo
-
26 seats left in the South Stand... officially anyway.

Tickets are selling well anyway judging by the online info. Looks a bigger crowd than the Carlisle game already with a day and bit of sales to go still

That's complete rubbish, got any data to back that up ?
It's about creating a buzz, and drumming up interest not just for any floating fan, but for the ones with tickets aswell.
The clubs been terrible at this ever since JR left
-
Why does virtually every other club post about ticket sales on social media then? Are Rovers the one club that is so far ahead of the curve on this?

I follow every EFL club and Premier league club on twitter. Very few of them act in the way you describe. If it had value, they all would. Sample size of 92 in my dataset thanks.

Then how the hell have we filled our ground since he left.. Plus, he has chipped in in recent times promoting tickets, even giving them away.
We need to survive on genuine supporters and shouldn’t be throwing gimmicks away left right and centre. If we are to succeed, we need those occasional supporters to come more often for the 'routine' bread and butter games.
We are the best marketing tools. Instead of asking what has the club done. Ask yourself what you have done to spread the word.
-
I do think a 3 for £50 or something offer would've worked well though (no idea what a fill price ticket is but that feels cheap). Club should be pushing these two home games, I'm hoping we'll be up before Bradford (let's be honest it's never that easy).

The most successful ticket sales drive in recent history was my Donnybob challenge. Quite simple. Bring one friend with you. Simple as that. An 8000 crowd creates a demand for 16,000 tickets if everyone succeeds. It was tried once and the ground was effectively sold out. I expected the club to take this on board and develop the concept. Everyone thought it was a brilliant idea yet nothing happened. How difficult has it got to be? Keep it simple. No excuses. Just do it. But as ever, it's raised at the last minute. Too late.
Everyone cites Bradford City as the shining example of cheap/ free tickets to boost crowds but City is not comparable to any other League Two side. Bradford is a former Premier League club. It is a massive city. Huge. It's a one club city, possibly second only to Newcastle and Sunderland in size. 20,000 attendance is not exactly massive in those terms.
You could make tickets free at Sutton or Harrogate and they would struggle to sell out. One size doesn't fit all. We are somewhere in between, like a lot of clubs, and need to find our own solution. It is there, staring at you, in your own hands. Don't spend time looking for someone to blame, falling out like spoilt children, just get on with it.

How rich do you think the Rovers are??
Having employees spending their time doing what you suggest would be absolutely stupid. Activities around ticketing that don't produce revenue? Whatever next....

What about Leeds?
Third biggest city in England. Yes, a great example of a big city club that didn't consider 20k gates as being especially unusual. However, the point is, filling Rovers ground.

A club sustained by cheating and malfeasance at every level. Morally and ethically bankrupt. Truly the very worst that the English game has to offer.
-
Sorry I mean when u said Bradford were 2nd only to Newcastle and Sunderland in size as a one club city, Leeds must be biggger than all of those.

It’s as simple as that.

Looks like we'll be wearing a bit of a retro look on Saturday. Quite like it.
What a ridiculous decision to switch to that god awful 80s Cusack-era Rotherhamesque shirt for this important game. This isn't an exhibition match. It's a vital 6 pointer against a potential auto-places promotion rival. Routine should have been the watch word.
-
A very large 3 points up for grabs tomorrow. Good weather and a great stadium to watch cheap professional football with a promotion tantalisingly within reach. Hopefully the ticket office likely to be very busy in the morning.

As you know Rob said the same about it giving me Dave Cusack nightmares.
I started going infrequently back then, thre wasn't much fun until Bremner came back a couple of seasons after Cusack.

Channel Neville Chamberlains opening day hat trick mate, possibly the only high of that season ( maybe Billy Stubbs scoring too? Was that the same year?)

Rwminds me of quite a few years ago, when we were on a great run with the Championship play offs in sight, I wrote to the club expressing the very same things after the club announced it was going to wear a charity shirt (maybe the first time we'd done it). The club wrote back explaining all the benefits to the charity, the people involved and the amount of money going to the good cause to support people alot less fortunate. Basically making me feel like a short sighted chump that I was).
We went on to win the game and later, when we went back to the Red and White hoops, we got beat by Plymouth.

Have you forgotten the Green Title winning shirt?
-
I have to say the change in shirt doesn’t bother me, plus it will have been planned for months, to get them made, and also to get permission from the EFL to use a different kit?
-
Neufville on the right is pacey and direct, could cause us issues.
Bugiel isn't a goalscorer but is a good player.
He bullied us last time, Big Tom should sort him out this time.

Sharp got a red !!. Now going to miss games. What a f*ck*ng idiot! Are we going for promotion or not??
-
Doesn't matter how many games sharps ban is he shouldn't play again. Thanks for the memories but that leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Don't know if we would have gone on to win the game with him. Not been good enough the second half of the season anyway
-
Port Vale and Walsall can both pull further ahead when they play. And if we don't win on Tuesday the autos are gone.
Suddenly feel a whole lot sicker. No thanks to Sharp. One minute on the pitch, unbelievable.
-
We have gained a point on Bradford though!
-
They are not in amazing form. Three wins in their last ten games. Their away form really isn’t great. Two wins in their last ten away games and they were single goal victories against poor sides in Carlisle and Newport. They don’t lose that many away though, so a draw looks fairly likely.
Yep.
-
We played the same again and two wingers today who both marked out the game. Wanted to come inside use their left foot Molynuew and right foot Gibson both were very poor. Midfield that passed the ball majority sideways and backwards. Clifton had 1 shot the others that replaced him Sbarra nice passing back to defenders or sideways Kelly runs with the ball down blind alleys. Best midfielder was Broadbent. Street runs after the ball but he’s on his own most of the time. Ironside slow and again not getting through or passed Wimbledon players. Sterry shot scored that was a novelty is was on goal at pace took a defection but we as going on goal. Grant your ideas are the same every game when will you tell Molyneux and Gibson to try and swap wings when will you ask them to get to the bye line and put in good crosses Another game where we look stale and not forward thinking.

Said we needed a strong ref, unfortunately we didn’t get one the only decisions he got right were the sending offs - let them dictate the time keeping - how the f was there only 3 minutes first half it took longer than that for their player to finally leave the field then the keeper went down, plus all the time wasting
Absolute joke Mr Hair

Port Vale and Walsall can both pull further ahead when they play. And if we don't win on Tuesday the autos are gone.
Suddenly feel a whole lot sicker. No thanks to Sharp. One minute on the pitch, unbelievable.
Stop talking shite

Wimbledon were clever. Everytime they had a goal kick one of them was in the ref’s ear distracting him while the keeper blatantly wasted time
There is some horrible football in league two
-
We can talk about the ref we can talk about Wimbledons tactics but they did have pace and strength. We drew the game because our game plan wasn’t good enough the attacking players in midfield and up front were not clever or good enough. We don’t get into the autos we will not do well in the playoffs teams know how we play and nullify what are supposed to be our best players

I actually thought he was ok for me only thing was he let keeper get away holding onto the ball in his hands for too long, for me he got most decisions correct in clouding the 2 sendings off,had far worse this season

Thanks for your usual bile d**khead1.
It's entertaining reading all your comments on every thread. Everyone should take the time to read it all.
You really are a nasty so-and-so.
And the fact remains that without a win on Tuesday we will be watching the playoffs slip away.

You are prescient then Michael?

Wimbledon red looked soft to be fair

By the time we play Notts County they could be in a play off place where winning or drawing with us makes no difference to their league position. In which case they could rest players to keep them fresh or not risk one of their better players that is carrying a knock.
Four games for us before then and more twists and turns to come yet.

Studs up straight into the thigh, it was a red all day long, what was really annoying was it took him 5 minutes to walk of the field of play despite being just feet from the tunnel

I still have this awful feeling that we will have to win at notts county to secure auto. And they need a result to secure a place in the playoffs .
