If you are giving a red for that, the game has gone!
Look at the reaction of Lewis after the ref shows the card....bullying works!
-
You can’t see it from this video but a clear headbutt by sharp into their lads back. Not the most violent thing you’ve ever seen but the stupid t**t has given the ref a decision to make.
Disappointing and completely unnecessary from an experienced pro. He’s let us down.
-
Unless Sharp has put his head into him while behind him (and therefore while not visible from that camera angle), then we should be appealing that suspension.
-
Obvious red. Nutted him.

In that case, f**k him.

Both reds were reds today.
-
Stupid from Billy. Lost his head over nothing. Banned for three games just when we need everyone!
-
This could be when Joe steps in and up
-
To me it also looked like he had a little kick first before the nut. Unbelievable
-
I was there Billy head butted his back gave the ref the choice and he got sent off stupid we had already got the corner. Yes their player shoved him but should not head butted the player even though it was his back
-
Perhaps Sharp (unwittingly) helped us. We were getting nowhere with Wimbledon’s shape when 10 v 11. The sending off changed Wimbledon’s outlook. Which may have ultimately helped us.
A very poor performance overall from us against a good team. Glad it didn’t go on much longer as Wimbledon would have won it.
-
I can't see head to head contact from that, which is what I think nutting him means.
Not even worth a yellow as far as I am concerned, and the reaction from Lewis is way too strong.
Would the ref have shown a red without Lewis getting in his face?

It doesn’t have to be head to head, remember Zidane in the World cup final

We had 30 seconds in the shape we were in.
-
Can you imagine a world where our fans chant his name after he does that?
Incredible
-
Absolute fool, he's old enough and wise enough to know better.

If you read it properly it’s Wimbledon’s shape from 28 minutes that I alluded to as our problem…

I doubt it. Hes looking like hes never played football at the minute.
-
Mindless from Sharpie, there was nothing in it, no power, but he did kick out and force his head in Lewis’s back.
Lewis is a shit house on a different level, had the ref in his pocket from the first minute and talked him through the game, and is the only reason their keeper never got booked.
I’m glad I support DRFC and do not have to watch those types of performances. The absolute anti football tactics all game, their goal was a well worked goal though, so why they feel the need to play like they do I will never know.
-
No one has mentioned that Lewis put his forearm into the back of Billy’s neck as the ball went out of play, which is what he reacted to.
However, I agree that he has no excuses for doing the head into the back of the defender.
Defenders will always try to wind him up but he should know better and will now not be available for three matches.
-
Yes Sharp's an idiot reacting the way he did.
Yes the challenge by Reeves of Wimbledon on Clifton was a little nasty.
But the bar for what constitutes a red card has to be higher than both of those 2 instances.
Yellow cards, shake hands and play on in both cases. Poor refereeing.

both reds all day long,he caught Clifton with the studs in the hip and any head but is also a red no matter how soft he catches him
-
It's worse than the Tomlin one for me. 39 years old every opportunity to take and he does that. Absolutely livid with him as should his manager be.
-
Looked to me on Sky that Billy had a swing at their player
-
McCann and Sharp accepted the sending off. No appeal will be made.
-
Both reds were reds today.
And the late reckless challenge by their 26 with 5 minutes of normal time SHOULD have been a third
Already on a Yellow he brought down ( can't remember ) and Ref went straight for a Yellow
26 threw his head in his hands and IMO Hair (brain) realised it would be a 3rd Red and put the Card back
He should be banned for 10.matches. The alleged Ref that is
-
Never a red in a million years.
-
Billy let us down big style.
We signed as an impact player, perhaps he misunderstood what Grant meant by that.
We had the opportunity to go on & win that game in the last twenty minutes with two fresh front men as they tired.
Billy hasn’t delivered in games as we’d hope he would, missing opportunities in front of goal that I would have slated Sbarra for missing.
Sometimes returning to a club (for a third spell) doesn’t work out….unfortunately, much to my chagrin, Billy’s hasn’t.
Doubt we’ll see him in a Rovers shirt ever again. What a sad, stupid way to ‘depart’.
-
Shouldn't play for us again.
He's been poor all season too .
-
I don’t think he will be finished with us.
He knows he has let us down today and will probably score late winners in the last two games.
-
Shouldn't play for us again.

Signed with the heart not the head. Times up Billy.
-
Stupid from Billy. Lost his head over nothing. Banned for three games just when we need everyone!
Billy didn’t lose his head, he planted it into his opponent’s back.
-
I think his time is up . Thanks for everything Billy. Not a good way to end it all but he has given Mcann a decision to make .we need strikers to be fit all season and able to play consistent full games. Thanks for the memories. He is an expensive luxury. We need fresh young fit stamina filled strikers.
-
McCann has some major decisions to make this summer. As it stands, the only contracted centre back is Jay McGrath and the only contracted centre forward is Joe Ironside. To be generous you could at least say he has a blank slate.
-
I was just a few feet away behind the goal in the south stand - as soon as he did it I said to my brother it was a straight red. F***ing stupid for anyone, but a player of his age and experience - I have no words! :headbang:
-
I wonder if our Billy is contemplating the fact that he may have just played his last 40 seconds in a Doncaster shirt, if so an ignominious end for a Donny legend. Also, I can't help thinking that if you are going to t**t someone in a football match you should at least do it properly and to hell with the consequences. It looked to me more like he was trying to give his opponent a kiss.
-
It's just a very bad example to the younger players how an experienced pro should conduct themselves, plus when we already had a man advantage.
-
Shouldn't play for us again.
He's been poor all season too .
You have to be joking.
He was silly today, but he has not been poor all season.
Unfortunately with some game time, our system has not suited him, and most supporters realise that.
-
He'll feature for sure in the last 2 games and hopefully last 2 games no more
-

if your going to do what Billy did, then you risk getting sent off, let himself down the club, and the fans, most of all his teammates, silly
-
I wasn't saying it was not a daft thing to do, it clearly was silly.
But was it worth a straight red, without any previous involvement?
We have all seen loads of incidents far worse that pass by without any punishment....look at the tackle by the Palace lad on Ennis in the FA cup, far worse but then he stays on and scores.
It is about sorting out the dangerous from the petty.

It was a soft red really, you also have to ask why Lewis wasn’t punished, he had 2 goes at Billy.
Unfortunately Billy was sat watching all the Wimbledon antics, especially Lewis, and would have been has frustrated as the rest of us.
That said he should have been professional enough not to have retaliated.
-
Billy winds himself up to get in the zone, he tries to lead by example when he is on the pitch with his work rate, and desire - I think hoping it will rub off on the others.
He is no shrinking violet though as we know, and he will not let anyone take a free shot at him. Lewis knew that and the reason he had the huge grin when he saw the ref hand the red out! Did him like a kipper.
I also wonder if there was any previous with Lewis at their place.
-

Typical dick statement. He hasn’t been poor. He’s scored 10 goals in total this season. He still has something to offer.

No excuse.
Billy Sharp done like a kipper by a ‘never has been’.
I trust Billy’s hurting as much as those he let down today.
-
When Billy was coming on the Wimbledon bench were sending messages onto the pitch for Lewis-it all seemed slightly pre planned and Billy fell for it, no excuse for it plain stupidity
-
Anyone remember the match at Wimbledon some years ago when they very deliberately engineered a red card for John Marquis - first one player running 30 yards to get in JM’s face, a yellow for each, and then a second yellow through despicable clearly pre-meditated play by Ramsdale who caught the ball, JM was jogging back and Ramsdale, from behind, locked his arm around JM’s and brought him down, and all the Wimbledon players ran to the ref to accuse JM of impeding a quick throw by Ramsdale. BST put frame by frame photos clearly showing it.
The story of Wimbledon is fabulous, and what a great set of fans, but their players are masters of the dark arts that are ruining the beautiful game.
-
Not sure he’s played his last game for us. He’s out for 3 and he’ll return straight to the fold as an impact player. But him and Ironside should be shipped in the summer.
-
I hope he hasn't played his last game for us because when he's back, he will win us promotion and hopefully help us maintain a League 1 position.
-
This could be when Joe steps in and up

Correct, should be nowhere near the match day squad
-
No buts, he is an idiot and as an experienced pro should not be reacting the way he did.
It was a deserved red whether he made contact or not, it was violent intent, and if I was Grant I’d be furious.
-
It’d be interesting if we’d signed ‘AN Other’ senior pro in the summer with no previous affiliation with the Rovers to see what the assessment would be.
I think Billy gets a lot of slack because of our history together. We’d be more critical (in my opinion) of any other senior player who’d come in the summer who’d had the input Billy has had this year.
That being said, he’s had big impact on some games, Walsall h, Bradford a, Kettering single handed, and I don’t think he’s been utilised well enough by Grant.

Steve Nichol’s experience didn’t do us any harm.
Neither did Alan Warboys, Neil Sullivan, Rob Jones, Copps….

And undervalued in equal measure. Look at the youngsters in our squad and the slack they're given for naivety and basic lack of nouse and then consider the cost to the team that goes with that.

Maybe they are just not good enough and it’s nothing to do with experience. Plenty of young players in the prem playing at 17/18/19yo.

How many times have some of our fans written Billy Sharp off? He was apparently past it years ago according to some.
The guy was drawn into a trap, unfortunately he fell for it. Sometimes things happen for a reason, it’s there for somebody else to step up and score the goals we need.
Billy even at his age would score goals, if he’s given the right service. He hasn’t had the creativity around him that he’s had in our past teams or when he’s been elsewhere.
I don’t think his age is a factor, but definitely think he should have known better. Wimbledon feared him being on the pitch and drew him into getting himself sent off.

Why is it? Our most experienced player is useless now. So much so he's having a part in every goal we've conceded since coming back.
-
His experience though is one of the main reasons we reached the playoffs last season along with Anderson, Ironside, adelekun, Rowe, etc

If you ever trust me on anything I say about football. Trust me on this.
I’m not saying experience doesn’t have a value, just that it’s over valued.
-
Adam Clayton came as an experienced pro and got nothing but dogs abuse on here
-
If Billy is losing his rag and head butting people then I’m afraid he’s not bringing much experience to the table.
Had we signed someone like Street in the summer and an able bodied defender instead of Wood then perhaps we’d be comfortable by now.
Does the mere presence of Wood make any difference like some suggest? Probably not.
I think experience and a spread of different ages across the squad is essenetial. Players in their late 20s/ early 30s can offer that. Signing players pushing 40 is just ridiculous.

The whole squad last season was poor till the "10 in a row" drama. Wood was good in those 10 games (and Gills + playoff first leg). But so were Anderson and Olowu at the back. Wood didn't make a massive difference up to then because the whole team, including him, were poor. So we've paid him two years wages to look good in, essentially, less than half a season. I'm presuming he will be earning more than the average L2 player given his profile. He has been a disaster this season.
The difference last season was made by Craig, TLT and Hakeeb. Not Wood. Ironically, two of the three are very inexperienced players...
-
Wood missed the majority of last season but he came back against Tranmere and from then onwards we looked a different team,
The experience of him and Anderson together for almost all of the remaining 15-16 games made a massive difference.
A year on maybe it’s too much but there’s no doubting last season wood had a massive impact on us reaching the playoffs

Wood played 30 games last season, and we looked good in about 10 of them!
-
Nah not having that gaz!
If Anderson and wood hadn’t of come back in for olowu and McGrath last season we would’ve ended up bottom half

Olowu played in half of the “10 in a row” games and was great.
JM was poor when he played admittedly but he didn’t start many games.
-
Alongside wood in all of them though.
That Salford away game last season was the turning point, I posted at the time that it was a proper performance where we battled, fought and scored proper goals.
Even though we only drew it was the performance of the season so far

More value than someone who could have played more than twice the amount of games in the same period?
