Working at Huddersfield currently, have been for about 12m now, literally next door but one to the stadium.
One of the lads that works for us is a terrier fan.
Told me today they are signing a new right back for £1m and not sure he will start.
For those that are unsure on the budget discussion just let that sink in.
£1m, for a squad player, as cover, for right back.
This league is poles apart from the last couple times we have been here. We should be aiming/hoping for mid table.......AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!!

The gap between L1 and L2 is ridiculous.

It’s almost like an extension of the championship now. Obviously that’s still another level above, but clubs in L1 spending similar monies to mid table clubs in that league. I think if reality hadn’t dawned yet, then by now it should have; the dizzy heights of championship football again in the near to mid future (if ever) is a pipe dream

I disagree. We just need to apply the budget more smartly. The playoffs are attainable for us with a mid table L1 budget.

Spot on. People complain furiously when they think the government is wasting money, when the council is wasting money, but where is the scrutiny that the club is spending money in the best way? Clearly the recruitment and some of the contract extensions in recent years have been throwing money away. I’d be furious if I was Terry having to pick up the slack every year.
Silent Majority has come on and confirmed the facts previously on our budget. Obviously our budget isn’t as much as Huddersfield but that doesn’t mean we should be struggling second from bottom.

Huddersfield have been in the Championship or Premier League for the past 10+ seasons, and get 20,000 fans every week. I don't think anyone expects us to be fishing in the same pond as them, but we're not in a league with 22 other Huddersfields.

Whilst I agree to some extent, my comment was more about sustainability in the championship. We could have seasons where we get close to the playoffs, but being realistic, it’s unlikely I think unless a lot falls into place. There’s always going to be clubs in this league that can buy and attract better players than us and by this virtue are much more likely to be at the top end of the league than we are. We recruited well in 2012/13. But that group of players wouldn’t get us near the top 2 in this day and age.

That's fair.

IF, they are paying £1m on a squad player, it's an exception rather than the norm for LG1. Whether they can afford it or not, you would have to question that justification, unless rhe player is a highly rated player who's likely to make the step up.
We will always speculate about the budget and how well it's being spent, but without being on the inside, we'll never know.
As others say, it's easy to spend it badly and waste the investment and much harder to maximise resources by maintaining a consistent strategy. We always tend to notice when players are recruited or sold for big fees, but we don’t hear much about wages and players who drop out the back door on frees.
