Even if we gat another centre half I would play him alongside Bailey, or was ie a coincidence we kept a clean sheet and won a game with him in the central defensive position. If the new central defender has not got pace, then we will be no further on than the last few months. We desperately need some pace at the back to compete at this level with attackers much more mobile and willing to take defenders on and isolate them into a one on one situation their lack of pace cannot cope with.
The problem with Hanlan is that we continue to play a game that in no way appeals to his strengths. He is totally wasted if we continue to shove long balls up to him and expect him to win them with his back to goal. Not going to happen. That is clearly more the game of our man Francis. If he is fit, I would start Francis through the middle and Hanlan out wide. That's a much better use of resources.
That could work but we’ve then got two very modest sized centre backs.

That’s why he’s pretty good in the air.
Why did McGrath celebrate in front of the Wigan fans like that? It was a bit strange and to be honest, it looked a bit tinpot. He does like to give it the “big un” for someone who’s been mostly rubbish this season.
