now the hillsboro disaster as been brought up i recall going to a sheff weds v chelseagame, must have been a div2 game as it was well before the disaster mentioned.chelsea had the leppings lane seats and the middle pen on away end standingthe pens either side of middle pens were closed off.the seats were full so i was going throught that type of tunnel that takes youinto leppings lane pens, once we got into the pen at back it was rammed, with more chelsea comming in behind us.your feet were picked up from the ground and yer body just went with the flow/crush turning sideways leaning this and that way.it was som'ert you never experienced beforeand felt odd,you was not gasping for air but all and sundry could sense inside that pen that the police should open pens or a pen either side to help out.SYP just stood their with battons drawn and any fan that try to cilmb into pen either siside were hit back into the middle pen.this made the chelsea even more upset.did not register with me that day how wrong things could have gone untill the liverpool/forest game.i did hear that either west ham or spurs fans had gone through the same experience at hillsboro around the sametime.makes you think if 'owt
bloody hell jonrover i never heard that look on things before about a timed devicethat might have started the firei have allways been on understanding it was down to build up of litter under thestands and a fag end that maybe been thrown away was the cause.
that firei cant recall the exact date but it was last game of season when bradford citywere playing lincoln city at valley parade.this link is shocking to say the least so please think before you clickthey say you recall what you was doing when jfk was shot, when this fire was shownon are tv's i was at home getting me hair cut.iam told since this day that bradford city football club have allways have the colourblack put into their playing kit as rememberance i guess, nice touch.after watching the link like me you will sit there in silence for a long timetrying to figure football/life/world out........and more than likely draw the same blank as me....sorry if offends/upsetshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rD4jI1x6SU
Could have happened to any of us. That's the sobering thing. All grounds were death traps in them days.Anybody who was on the away end at Goodison in that cup match in 1985, and was carried 3 yards sideways off their feet when the surges started knows that Hillsborough could easily have happened there.
I remember it only too well. Just like I remember Hillsborough. And Heysel. And Ibrox. And the Marchioness. And the Herald of Free Enterprise. Whilst I agree that stadia were poor in those days, these links don't scream 'vengeance' or 'conspiracy' to me. No. They remind me of just what it is to be a human being. We are not perfect. We never will be. Things go wrong. All the time. Despite the best efforts of the Helath & Safety Gaulieters there will always be tragedies. Life is a bitch. It always will be. Death is the natural condition of us every one. So look out for yourself and look out for others for that brief, brief period whilst we are amongst the living is the message I take from this thread. Mind you, at the risk of incurring the wrath of BST again, I still do think that Hillsborough was a special case. I didn't know there is now an independant enquiry. Thanks for that snippet Rob. I hope, whatever its conclusions, that it is credible, painstaking and thorough. There was and is too much mystery about Hillsborough. Too much unexplained. Too much slanted favourably, without credible explanation, towards preserving the power and the status of a few privildged people and institutions. And I hope, when the happy day dawns, that every single newspaper in this country turns round, in 6 inch bold black headlines and says 'Shut the fcuk Up' to the Sun.CheersBobG
