I agree cism its not good enough there is no reason why it couldnt have been called off earlier

After the dust settles we may realise that the decision was in our favour (as a club, not fans) as that pitch would have been a proper leveller. As it turns out, we will get heaps of publicity and may get a live TV game too. Cash, cash and cash.I've come at realising that except Copps, I wouldn't recognise a single player up closewhat a load of shit sam said he DID NOT want to play from his own mouth and he was having a go at the officials and the groundsman over it

I think some of us are forgetting that this is a small part-time club and have a lot of volounteers who worked very hard for their big day. That they came up short and have come across a bit amateurish is a shame but that's life.
I wonder what would have had the most posts this thread or a thread on us losing 1-0 in those conditions?Does it really matter what time it was called off? Most people would have been in or around WSM by lunchtime 12-1.00pm, so would it have been any different if the match had been called off at that time or even earlier?I agree it cost a few bob for a lot of people and a wasted day out but these things happen, regrettably.

So your day isn't completely wasted.I recall setting out for a game at Wigan (Springfield Park was notorious for waterlogging), finding out around mid-day it was off and ending up at Anfield.
I remember rovers losing at Bournemouth in the fa cup a few years ago in much worse conditions than the pitch on saturday made for a real cup tie you could have had ducks on the pitch that day it was so wet
Apart from Charlton last year, the worst I remember was Rochdale away one boxing day in the early 80s, ball stick in the mud sort of game. finished 2-2 or 3-3 - will go check..Checked, was 3-3 on 2 Jan 84. I knew it was in the christmas holidays...

I remember it happening somewhere with us, but thought it was later, maybe early 90s. Could have been Bury thinking about it.

I never expected it to go ahead after all the rain that fell but I don't think anyone- players or officials- wanted to come back for a midweek game. Terrific entertainment, but would never happen nowadays.
Sunnyfields Juniors pitch was the best, played a few classic matches there. I'm sure I saw Hippos in those mudpools.
