Luke Molyneux is an excellent Lg2 player and will be decent in Lg1 with us next year. I'd give my right nut to be good enough to play in Lg2 and to experience being a pro-player.

But, the point is well made - lads at this level are closer to non-league than the prem - even Moly. Look at the trajectory of the lads we've had last few years - RS Williams and Barlow both came through at ManU and now they're national league or below. The only player in recent times to get to the prem is Jacob Ramsey, even our best player in that time Ben Whiteman hasn't made it to the prem.

Whereas, to follow up my point, 50 years ago, a British player as good as Ben Whiteman is compared to the global standard would have spent his career at a mid level First Division club. He'll be something like the 100th-150th best British midfielder.

I used to use this kind of analogy to point out how shallow the talent pool is for England these days. Realistically, the majority of the England squad will be made up of players from the teams in the top half of the Premier League, and your first XI from those playing at the best teams and regularly in Europe. We're now giving those limited number of places to develop players from all over the world. 40-50 years ago, prime DRFC era Billy Sharp would have been in consideration for the England squad, and its only the influx of foreigners that limited his development amongst the elite. Without the influx he would likely have played his whole career at that level rather than just a couple of seasons up there with the Blades later on in his career.

He got s bit of stick from a nob on twitter slagging him after the Bromley match, might have been that?

Just found the comment.

Can any club who believes the Luke Molyneux hype please take him off our hands in January please

Hate seeing reactions like this from players when they play ok. Back patting each other on twitter and all that b*llocks. f**k me, patting each other on the back for playing well in the 4th division is like patting someone on the back for winning a beauty contest in Rotherham. Then they go into hiding when the going is tough.

“Blocking out the noise” there is no noise mate. You are not David Beckham.

Not Moly specifically but footballers in general. Just keep your nut down and keep plodding on. No blocking out of the noise when their sphincter went in the playoff semi final second leg was there?

I agree with the sentiment but to mock people
For being league 2 footballers is crazy! I think people fail to realise how good a player you need to be to play at north east counties level, never mind conference north, never mind league 2.

Gaz once said league 2 players should be embarrassed to call themselves professionals (or something similar) so it’s not the first time.

It’s a really strange way to view things, unless he’s just on the wind up.

I do agree with him on this one though. If Luke has posted this because on one fans comment then it’s a little bit odd. He’s loved here.

You obviously have to have a decent level of ability to play L2 football but most of these lads are a lot closer  to being amateur players than top players. I just think sometimes players at this level get a bit above themselves.

I know most are just humble lads enjoying a game of football but some really overrate themselves and their ability.

You’ve got to be a top top player to get anywhere near league 2.
Most of the players playing for Man City, Liverpool etc under 16s, 17s. So the best of the best at that age group won’t end up playing at a level as good as league 2!

He is certainly loved here by most of us. The problem is that the negative gets amplified on social media, and the players, being young lads will often feel the need to respond to that. Maybe being able to keep that in perspective is a modern era, mental resilience requirement that the very highest level players are able to achieve, but ones further down struggle with?

I would like think Moly is intelligent enough to take things with a pinch of salt but are those who give it large to him, intelligent enough to take his gestures with an equal pinch?

He's been great for us over the last 18 months to be fair and bar the very odd average game he's been excellent. People piling into him on twitter etc should just be ignored. He's a young lad and he will quickly realise that the opinions of some fat 50 year old from Doncaster who was never good enough berating him about his crossing technique is not worth the time to even read.

One person. This person looks like he's involved in kids football too which is worrying. And not because of any weird shit before one of yous jumps on me.
I saw blokes like this with a warped view of football "coaching" 6 and 7 year old screaming at them to "get rid of it" and "don't do that there, if in doubt kick it out".

These guys would burst a blood vessel if their u7s had lost but the week after walk around like Jurgen Klopp if they'd won.

These guys probably got as far as division  7 in Sunday pub football and have zero knowledge about football.

I think that comments on lower league players are amplified more because they are in a smaller pool and get their attention more.  If you are a Championship/Premiership player the sheer quantity of comments means that you wouldn't have the time - or the energy to read them or be concerned.  They are young lads and need to be a bit savvy about the comments made - it's an easy thing to say, but answer them on the pitch...
