What the Dutch think they might see in Doncaster?
« on August 02, 2010, 09:09:18 pm by Dutch Uncle »
Was amazed last week to see posters with Doncaster in large letters all over Leidschendam, the internationally famous metropolis where I live. I was even more amazed to see pictures bearing no resemblence at all to Donny. I saw pictures of something I take to be Fountains Abbey, the Shambles in York, and what I think is Whitby (attached). EasyJet are running a special offer for trips to 'surprising Yorkshire' flights for 35 Euro - they'll be bloody surprised when they find out how far it is to Whitby

P.S. the quick photo our lass took while holding up traffic not her best

P.S. look at the relative font sizes for Amsterdam and Doncaster - have had fun with the locals this week

Its only fair Dutch, there are enough of us over here that fly over there often enough to warrant a bit of reciprocal tourism  :cheer:
My next trip is Sep 18 and 19 to see the delights of Groningen v Excelsior and Utrecht v Venlo. Thanks to Sky for making the Leeds match the Friday night  ;)

Perhaps the Dutch Tourist Board could organise conducted tours of the Isle of Axholme and see the effect Vermoyden had on the landscape. No doubt they'd be interested to see the influence of their architecture around Owston Ferry and surrounding villages. They could also be introduced to some of the descendents of the local Dutch settlers. While on the tour, give them a copy of 'The Manuscript in a Red Box' and they can read a fictional account of the resistance the local inhabitants of the Isle put up in defence of their lands and watercourses.
And they could ofcourse visit the Keepmoat and see the Champions League Winners of the future in action

Great ideas Scilly.......especially about the Keepmoat

Except Axholme is in Lincolnshire.......

Mind you anyone whose Geography is such that they think flying to Doncaster is the best way to get to Whitby wouldn't mind that
