Thought he was the best player on the pitch - looked very assured, passed the ball into decent spaces and generally tried to make things tick -also showed some neat little productive dribbles too! Plus he scored! Looked like he could push the established players as the season progresses!

Agree. He has plenty in his locker. He's not yet fully switched on to our movement and rotation yet but he's just feeling himself in at the moment.

With more confidence and playing with better players around him he's going to challenge. Skillful, quick feet and not afraid to have a dig.

Not sure he's a tackler though.

I agree I think Payne has promise and was puzzled when he was taken off.

Looked like another victim of cramp. He was trying to stretch it off a few minutes before.

He'd been cramping for 15 minutes and gave a signal to the bench just after he put a shot over from the edge of the box.

Very solid performance and looks intelligent enough to learn our fluid structure.

Are we really crediting the goal to Payne? From where I was in the West stand it looked as though his shot was heading straight for us till it took the deflection/s. We thought it took maybe 2 deflection on the night,
Check the video on the BBC page the keeper is going the wrong way.
Having said that he looked class for the 1st 50 mins or so, I think a bit of fatigue set in then he picked up a niggle we saw him signalling to the bench a few minutes before he came off.

Can certainly take a player on with some ease. My first time seeing him play but thought he may have a bit of Billy big boots about him that I hope I'm wrong about. Not ready for first 11 IMO but a useful sub.
