just found a letter still in its origanal envelope from


        DONCASTER ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB Ltd.,

                                           Belle Vue Ground,
                                           Doncaster.

Dear Sir or Madam,

                  SEASON TICKETS  1973/74.

The board of Directors of the Club have decided that the
cost of season tickets remain as 1972/73,as stated below:

                  Main Stand       £10
                  Ground           £ 7
                  Schoolchildren   £ 3
                  Car Park         £ 2
                 
         O.A.P    Main Stand       £ 7
                  Ground           £ 5  




     The Closing date for the option on your seats will be
31st July,1973,but it would be of great help if you would
renew your holding as early as possible.

     When sending your application for renewal,will you
please complete the back cover of your old ticket and send
this to me [or if it is not avaiable quote your old ticket and send seat number]together with your remittance forn the
appropriate amount.

my question is how much was a pint of beer in 1973/74
season?

I reckon somewhere around 12p

I had my first Legal pint in 1968 it cost 1 shilling and 6 pence.
Allowing for inflation of say 5% per annum that would be approx 12.5P a pint in 1974 . That was not in town though, Hare and Hounds @ Fishlake. In towmn probably 15P. 20P in Top Rank.

So, what is better value for money now. A beer or a season ticket ?

well......as you can still get a pint for £2.10 in Fishlake ( 17 fold increase over the years ) its not a hard one to work out.

A friend said when it costs more to watch a match than it does to get drunk, then something is not quite right. Mind you some get drunk easily

Yes. I begaan legal drinking in 74. It was 12.5p for a pint of Barnsley Bitter (nectar of the Gods that stuff) in the Cricket club bar and in the Turf.

when I went to University that September I learned that excluding pre paid rent and food in the halls of residence, I could live pretty comfotably on a fiver a week - and that included all booze, regular cinema trips and plenty of ten pin bowling too as well as the unfortunately neccesary books.
