Safe Standing- Government seeking revision of laws
« on August 29, 2010, 07:44:16 pm by SUSD1 »
A message from the Football Supporters Federation.

The new coalition government has pledged to scrap unnecessary and “nannying” laws. We believe that the ban on standing at football grounds in the top two divisions is just this. In England and Wales, you can stand in rugby grounds, at Speedway events, at Horse racing events, even lower league football grounds. We don’t believe the top football clubs should be singled out and treated differently.

If you agree you can now say so on the Governments new “Your Freedom” website, by visiting
http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/cutting-business-and-third-sector-regulations/remove-requirement-for-top-level-football-grounds-to-be-all-seated

Please support our motion and (especially important) add some brief comments. You need to register to do so, but it takes literally two minutes and would help our campaign massively.

Bear in mind that for the first time we have a party in government (the Lib Dems) who support Safe Standing as official party policy, so the Your Freedom website gives us a great opportunity to press our case. If our motion becomes one of the most popular, then this greatly helps our aim to turn that support into government policy. We need YOUR support for this to happen.

...and the argument was all stacking up until that moment.

\"Errrm Mr Clegg are we getting standing areas back then?\"

Government No2 man- That's a good question, and it should be answered, and deserves an answer(lot's of re-assuring hand gestures to the audience). (deep sigh and the look of I'm a serious deep thinker and one of the normal people, because my seat is in working class Sth Yorkshire) Listen, don't let politicians fool you into false dawns. This has always happened and it's something I feel passionately about and uphold in the Northern constituency I represent. It's time we (pleasing smile) the politicians delivered what is being asked of us by the public and take this country onto the next level (more comforting hand gestures). I, myself represent a working class 'footballing bedrock' (big smile) constituency and I'm often asked this question by fellow Sheffield people. I have felt their emotional turmoil and fully understand the events of Hillsbrough and that is something that should never happen again. I can tell you infact, that feelings still cut very deep in the deprived 'salt of the earth' constituency I represent and also in that other city that was affected. We will learn from Labours mistakes and we will move forward (nod of the head to the question asker as in 'I'm great me and can answer anything', and now scans the audience for the next question).

Man who asked first question is perplexed, very confused and leaves the building, trying to understand and work things out.....

Second question, different person \"Mr Clegg, just to clarify, is the government looking into standing areas at top level Football games?\"

No2 Man (looks slightly upwards and pauses, with a view to making it look like he's a thinking man) 'I represent a working class area and I like to think of myself as one of the ordinary people...........and so on and so forth

Back on topic, I've added my support to this hugely worthwhile campaign. It's great to see so many well-presented messages of support on this issue.

Is this actually the rule. Because I'm almost certain Cardiff's old ground was standing.

its more to do with the hypocricy, clubs with terraces generally have a 3 year rule in the championship whereby after 3 years the stand has to be converted to all seater or they move to a new stadium. The FSF find it absurd that in the eyes of the FLA a terrace is pefecty safe for the lower leagues but not for the top 2 divisions, its about giving supporters a choice

Although we accept that hillsbrough has made terraces seem unsafe to many (though I believe when properly managed and regulated by an efficient police force such problems don't exist), therefore we are encouraging the safe standing models in the Bundesliga, the stand has seating thus remaining an all seater and retaining its safety certificate, however terracing barriers are put in place in between each row allowing supporters to stand in front of the seat

Might have been a good idea a couple of years back but I think most supporters have come to terms with seating, after all, who wants to pay 28 dabs to f**king stand up?
