Couldn't agree more. Apart from being injury prone, out of shape and match practice and as thick as Rik Waller's Boxing Day shite what does he offer?

I honestly don't think he's that good anyway - Capello should take the opportunity to f**k him off, as one of the old guard he should be a better option than the likes of Jagielka, Upson, Dawson to even be considered. These guys are going to get caps and experience. Rio's days SHOULD be numbered........

I still think Rio has a part to play in the England squad, but Gerrard deserves to keep it for the time being.
I've always been a firm believer of not changing a winning side, so Rio & especially Frank (overrated) Lampard have now got to win their places back.

Really impressed by Adam Johnson by the way.

Yes well put, Ferdinand is made to look better than what he is when he's got vidic put his boot n head in doing all the ugly stuff n just sweeping up behind its the same with lampard looks good in a good side totally overated. Nice to see the likes of milner and Johnson stepping up and how. Refreshing to see a confident, comanding goalkeeper in joe hart if he stays injury free will be England no 1 for years perhaps could even break the record for England caps?!

It was a shame for Rio to pick up the injury before the World Cup, but Gerrard has shown his character as captain in helping to inspire the team after the dreadful tournament. In the past I've criticised his performances for England, but I now think Gerrard has earned the right to keep the armband. Rio should just concentrate on getting in the team before anything else.

if both rio and terry were 100+ per cent match fit then
that would be the perfect two in middle of englands back line

rio has the pace terry lacks so can cover his back,where terry
can read the attack like no other and hence to say covers rios
back.

but i cant see both been at that fitness level together.

Irrespective of what I think about the bloke personally, he is still Capello's nominated England Captain, and Gerrard is England's Vice-Captain.  Why wouldnt he get it back when he gets fit and back in the side?

Terry is a trouble causer. Half our issues at the World Cup were down to him rocking the boat and getting above himself. Seriously, he thinks he's a hell of a lot better than he actually is.

No doubt Lampard is talented, but he cannot play with Gerrard and Gerrard is the better option. Whenever those two are in the England side together nothing works.

The last two England performances without Lampard and Gerrard have been a million times better than anything witnesses in South Africa. Havent seen such cohesive England TEAM performances for a longtime. As such, I would have neither Lampard, and in particuler trouble causer Terry, back in the squad.

England could have God as captain, Mohamed at centre forward, Buddha at centre back and Jesus as midfield general and we would still win nowt, cos they would have to play with 7 other over rated, over paid English footballers.
So basically what I am saying is that I couldn't give a toss who the England captain is.
