Domain Registrars & Commerical Web Hosting
« on September 27, 2010, 12:58:52 am by Reds Under The Bed »
There are usually a few knowledgable folks on here... Can anybody recommend a Domain Registrar and/or Commercial Web Hosting company. There are plenty to pick from but are they all much of a muchness or do any stand out?

Thanks in advance.

For simple, low traffic sites I've used http://www.nameroute.co.uk plenty of times and had no problems with them. If you're only looking for a static/HTML site you can get a domain name and 10mb webspace for just £5 a year!

This 'ere forum is hosted by http://www.uk2.net and we have had 0 problems and 100% uptime so far! You're looking at prices from £4 p/m (with a free domain name) from them.

BTW, I would stay clear of godaddy!  :S

The main concern with using godaddy is they can't actually handle .co.uk email addresses. So if you were wanting to register a .co.uk domain and set up an email account to use the same domain, you can't do it through godaddy.

Before moving to UK2.net we used to host this very site on godaddy, and the uptime wasn't very good at all - the server would \"go down\" every time we got busy - the bandwidth just wasn't there! This may be because they don't actually have any servers based in the UK, or even Europe - they are all based on the West Coast of the US.  :S
