This Nations Debt................
« on October 10, 2010, 09:13:35 am by CusworthRovers »
Who's fault is it?

Why don't we print tonnes of money off at the Mint and pay it back!

I blame the Tories for starting it
I blame Labour for not stopping it
I blame Lib/Dems who will about turn on their principles over it

Because every note you print without withdrawing the same amount from circulation reduces the value of every other note.

For all those falling for the Tory's hysteria about the size of the debt, look at the history of the Natonal Debt and just see what it was from the 20s to the 70s:

Who do we owe it to?

I thought there were laws regarding loan sharks!

Interesting!

From when the Tories came to power in 1979 until they got voted out in 1997 the national debt was the same even with the cuts they made at the time!

The big myth - that Maggie beat inflation - is just that too, a myth. It was higher when she got knifed than when she first became PM. I can't believe that people are still talking about a state funeral for her. I'd only agree to that if it was like Gandhi's, where we all get to see her go up in flames.

I still find it laughable that people are criticising the Tories.  This year alone the interest payments on the debt will come close to the whole budget for the armed forces, how can that be defended?

I think a State Funeral would be perfectly fine. I'd be delighted to see her buried in Westminster Abbey. In fact I'd carry the coffin myself.

Mind, they'd have to crank up the volume on the organ so as you couldn't hear her screaming and banging on the inside if the lid.

As the lead singer of the Angelic Upstarts once said at a gig in Sandall Park \"I hope Thatchers fanny festers and her fingernails fall out so she can`t scratch it\"

I pay more on my mortgage interest every month than I do on books for my kids. Does that make me an irresponsible parent.

If you are going to have a proper mature debate about the country's finances, you have to see the whole picture, not reduce it to a few souvenirs facts.

The simple truth is that, as Glyn's graphs show, our overall debt us NOT high by historical standards, or by international standards. At the end of the worst global economic shock for 80 years, this us quite remarkable.

What the Tories want to do is slant the debate to favour their ideological stance that Government in general is a bad thing that should be scaled back.

By the way, for the record, our current debt interest payments are about 4% of GDP. Hardly crippling.

So presumably you're advocating that the Tories increase the armed force budget (Only the best for our boys!! (c) The Sun)) accordingly. Not going to happen, is it?

I was at that Upstarts Gig in Sandall Park.

Yeah, I've read (independently) a bit about this debt, as it's got me curious. It certainly aint Labours fault and it's been around us many a year.

Fault wise, it's all the parties for not kicking the shit out of the banks (where the fault lies). They have been plagued by greed and the need to earn vast profits and bonuses, and then insist on being bailed out by the government or helped in the budget. Conservatives have allowed it and no doubt lined the pockets of there own. Labour should have stuck to their true principles and get hold of the banks and start controlling them more.

Stop the greedy minority eeking as much money as they can and screwing the Nation in doing so. If they want to take their money elsewhere, then f**k right off then, there will be somebody else no doubt willing to take their place who is willing to work at a rule set by Government, that should by having all the nations interests at heart.

As for the Lib/Dems, it was their main rider in their Manifesto for this election ie to tackle the banks head on. Spot on I thought and Clegster made some decent speech's about the Banks f**king us over and that they need to be got hold of..........let's see where that one sits with the Tories.
