LG Plasma TV problem
« on October 14, 2010, 02:17:07 pm by MrFrost »
Anyone here know anything about plasma tele's?

Got an LG 42 inch one, just less than a year old that has developed a small red line at the side of the screen. Its always there, every time you turn it on.

I've been told the screen is on the way out.

The TV is just still in warranty, however after some reading online, it seems LG warranties are one of the worse, resulting in a two month average wait for repairs, which are usually far below standard.

The TV was purchased on the never never (doh!), so I don't know if we have any come back with the people we actually purchased it from if it is faulty.

If it`s still in warranty, the only option for you is to get it sorted under the warrenty, plasma`s don`t like being moved about, so if you move it about to hoover round the back or things like that, that may have caused your problem

It's never been moved. I'm not 100% sure if we'll be covered udner the warranty as i'm sure we had to return something when we bought it for the warranty, which I don't think we did.

If we are covered, I don't much fancy the prospect of no tele for months!

I dont think you have to send anything off for your warranty. Do you still have the receipt? If so then I think you are ok.
I had a problem with an iron and never had the receipt, but as I bought it with a credit card it was still on record and they exchanged it, I was not expecting that I tell thee.
Also when you buy a tv dont they take your address details? I think its for the tv licence, so the details could be on the system confirming purchase date.

It was bought through Next, and we're paying it monthly.

your could try the whitewash programme
you will find instructions in your user manual
its reccomended for screen burn
we get it often on our plasma because we have sky sports news on alot throughout the day
and so we get a band of red and green along the bottom where the ticker tape runs

hope this is of some use to you

Never buy an LG product. Another useless company. Been phoning them daily since the fault arised, they keep telling me someone has to phone me back which they never do.

Warranty runs out in 5 days aswell. Fecking screwed now.

Make sure you get a name/record the call if possible or a reference number to prove the issue was reported to them prior to the warranty expiry date

As long as youve got proof it was reported prior to the warranty expiry they can't wriggle out

They`ve had to make the call centre staff redundant due to the cut backs!  ;)  :P

Under The Sale of Goods Act, the supplier - in this case Next - are liable for faulty products and their replacement.

Presumably you've contacted them? If not, give them a bell, tell them what's happened, they'll check their record of when your account had the tv added on, then it's up to them to take action & replace the telly.

If they try and get out of itm, which I very much doubt, then just tell them your claimimg a replacement tv under the Sale of Goods Act. That should do the trick. Good luck.

Called them a few times and have mentioned the Sales of Goods Act, all they say is because the TV is under warranty I have to contact LG.

Your contract is with the seller not the manufacturer its irrelevant that they say its cos its under warranty although obviously this is the way to normally go so the warranty with LG isn't giving results go back to the seller

Ok listen to Paulette Edwards on Radio Sheff she has a trading standards bloke on I think its this afternoon at 3 her program starts at 1.30 and I'm sure if its him on today it'll be mentioned its certainly one afternoon a week.
Phone em up or email them he's pretty good  or just phone the local trading standards for a bit of advice.

As oldpopsider pointed out your contract is with the seller however they have got to be given a chance to repair and I don't think that you will get anywhere by demanding a new telly claiming its not fit for purpose after this sort of time

Next have agreed to replace the TV with one of the same value.
Great I thought.
Although they do not do the same model any more. We have an LG 42 full HD TV.

The only one of the same value is a 40 inch which means a smaller TV. A 42 inch Full HD would mean us paying over another £100.

EDIT: They've just called back to say the warranty has expired on the 22nd October, which is the date the TV was ordered.

As long as they or Lg were contacted prior to the expiry date it should not be a problem, Hopefully you could show a phone bill with the number itemised to prove it

They'll only put it back onto our account though, and we owe them plenty so we wont actually see any dosh. Then we'd have 500-600 to find for a new tele.

Think we'll just go for the swap.

Plot thickens. They wont replace it as such.
We would have to buy another one on our credit agreement (which we cant as we don't have enough credit remianing) then wait for Next to collect the old TV, and wait for them to process a refund for it which can take at least 30 days.

Jesus.

Have you tried giving it a good shake? Sometimes the plasma gets stuck in the wrong place and just needs re-distributing evenly around the screen.*

*This may not actually help, but the telly's f**ked anyway so you won't have lost owt.  ;)
