Speeding Fine alternative?

Got clocked at 46mph on Wheatley Hall road and have decided to pay the £71 to attend a speed awareness thingy - spread over 4 hours. It's in November, anyone been on one of these? What can I expect?

my mates off to one in Hull. £75 and 4 hours of slapped dannies and dont do it again. All for doin 36 mph in a 30 zone.

Ill find out how much punishment he gets and let ya know. He might be given a free ST to watch Scunny

Went on one the other week its not a slapped wrist its supposed to be designed to  educate.
In actual fact its quite interesting and the 4 hours passed quite quickly

You see, its that kind of attitude that I have no sympathy for. What do you expect doing that speed in a 30 zone? I personally know someone who's life was ruined from someone doing 35 in a 30, and the experts reckoned if the driver had been doing the speed limit, the accident would have been avoided.

Me and the wife went on one in july at the Woodfield farm holiday inn in Doncaster.
I was caught on the camera doing 37 in a 30 near the Mushroom roundabout, Rotherham. My wife got caught
at the same place the day before!
The course seems a bit lengthy being four hours, but it soon goes by.
If you get the same instructor who did ours he looks like Jim Bowen from Bullseye off the telly!
There are about twenty 'speeders' who attend the course. Free tea/Coffee is available, and even a couple of Fag breaks are allowed if so desired.
People are expected to contribute to the course, but nobody fails it, and it's quite informative, and occasionally amusing.
Although it is £11 dearer than a normal £60 fine, you don't receive any points, nor does your insurance go up.
All in all it is well worth doing if given the choice, as it is not always offered, and won't be offered  again for at least three years after your last offence.

amazingly i was on one in bury yesterday having been clocked at 37 in a 30 zone

it was £60 pounds

it was informative and does make you think about your speed and also how you can tell the speed limit

i am not a speedster in built up areas  (but do do low flying on the motorways)  so i will take it on board as Mr Frost said the figures are worrying in  that the chances of killing someone when you stray over 30mph almost double

attend the course and learn the lessons of your folly!

Dunno Bob but I've begun to realise why the Keepmoat is half empty every other week .............every buggers spending an extra 60 or 70 quid on speed awareness courses

Blimey Bob - the Urraco is nearly as old as you - well 30+ anyway.

We have done the speeding thing to death .... for the last couple of years I have bored myself by trying to adhere to all speed limits from 20-70 - if I fail it's on Motorways where no pedestrians can be affected - no-one complains about getting punished for speeding - it's a fair cop.

I don't speed when there's buildings arounbd, but I do on open roads. I'm not rpoud of it, but I have to confess, I like speed. I get a buzz out of both the fact of travelling quickly, and executing the art of driving accurately. So, the nearly as old as me Lambo, if I buy it, would be for high days and holidays only when I'd take it out on the A361 south of Banbury. My favourite road of all. if I get it, it's my retirement present to msyelf - only a bit in advance Still a f**king gorgeous car - and this one is the ultra rare 3 litre version. Ace condition too. So, if I can pluck up the courage Ian, you can have a ride in it one day. And yes, this one is 34 years old. 17,200 miles on the clock!

If you ask any driver if they have EVER exceeded the speed limit it is just possible (if they were being honest) that they would say \"yes\" - speeding is illegal and people that are caught pay the price that the law sets upon it.

We all know that motor vehicles can be dangerous but there are often circumstances as well as \"few miles an hour over\" that are involved in road accidents - lives ruined are indeed tragic - but if you label each \"speeder\" as a potential prick there will be lots of pricks for you to view, Mr Frost!

Also earlier someone is moaning earlier in the thread as someone they know was only doing 36 in a 30. Get a grip.   That person should think themselves lucky they got the penalty they did.

Personally I do not speed. I have been caught previously but have learned from experience and situations I have witnessed.

There's a word for that mate. For your information, when I was 19, a small boy ran out from the side of a road just outside Kirk Sandall. He ran right into the path of my car. Another Alfa if you must know. He died in my arms. He was 8 years old. His father had a heart attack when he was told the news.  Now, I wasn't prosecuted. I wasn't speeding. The car was in good nick. But in over 30 years now I have NEVER fporgotten that blazing hot Sunday afternoon, that little boy, the awfulness of that summer. To this very day I carry in my wallet a pice of paper upon which I wrote dowen the time, date and place of the accident, and, copied the message from his Mum and Dad on their wreath. I can show it to any one of you right now. So, Frosty, yes. I do speed. I enjoy speed. I like it. But I only do it in places where the only person going to be killed is me. So stop patronising us all and stop pretending your some saint like figure to admire. You are human. I am human. we are all, I think, human. And one of the defining traits of being human is that we all have our flaws. And we all make mistakes. So what are your flaws then eh mate? Priggishness? Certainly.
