I am thinking of going to Barcelona myself, though I did look at Madrid! From what I have been told and from reading about Barcelona, it has much more to offer in history and things to see and do. I am also looking at taking in a game at the Nou Camp towards the end of the season.

I have been to both Grounds (for tours npt games) but do you mean that or the Cities themselves ?

That IS a difficult one to judge - both are fantstic tbh and I have been to Madrid just once and Barcelona 3 times BUT would like to return to Madrid to see if it was as good as I remember.

Of course they are vastly different one being bang in the middle of Spain and the other on the Coast and ok I would say for me Madrid would be where I chose if I could go just to one of them

P.S. I watched Rovers v Hull City in Madrid (from Belle Vue) in Madrid - and just when I had given up (after all why would anyone in Spain want to watch THAT) I spotted an Irish Bar and the sign outside read

Doncaster RIVERS V Hull CILY

p.p.s Mrs DW just nebbed over my shoulder and she too picked Madrid

I would go for Madrid. Been fortunate enought to go both a couple of times.
Real Madrid tour quality, even the missus enjoyed it.
It is one of the few 24 hour cities at a weekend and the women, get some sunglasses.
Madrid felt safer to us.

... AND I forgot to mention museodeljamon (Museum of Ham). I said how can you have a Museum if you eat all the exhibits. What a fantastic place to eat and drink. The Hams are all suspended above you (in the smoke) and they cost any price you can think of

Some they give away when you have a drink but other \"racciones\" of the top quality gear costs a massive amount

Check out their web site www.museodeljamon.es

Yes MADRID wins for me !

And if you're into really super macabre paintings with a sense of history, pop into el Prado and take a look at Goya. It's downright frighetning.

Cheers

been to barca 3times now all for CL games.never been to madrid so cant pass comment
on that city.

as for barca be  extra carefull at nite time down the rambalas (spell check),its full
of pick pockets who will be like flys round shit if they notice you have had a few pin ts.

they will bump into all honest like then before you know it you have had your pockets dipped for cash/cards/phones.

once had me passport nicked but was lucky as me mates were walking rite behind us and saw me pockets getting dipped, got me passport back but was gob smacked as i never clicked on was a tad pissed mind you.

it seems as thou the police just stand by and let if happen, maybe this was because a english football team are in town.

i think barca is over priced as you will be paying 4euros at the least for a drink upto 6 or 7 euros in some bars.drink well away from rambalas in back streets and price comes down a little bit.

best city i have been to in spain is seville by a long stretch, there is both football there and bull fighting if thats yer cup of tea, price of drinks were from 2euors to 4euros in the main.this was about 4years ago as my last barca trip.

Have a look at Valencia.

Fantastic city....it's like Barcelona without the tat and the pick-pockets.  The Spanish spent a fortune on new facilities when it hosted the Americas Cup and the old town is fantastic.
