Archos 5/6 v. I-Pod Touch ?
« on November 03, 2010, 10:03:05 am by hoolahoop »
My daughter wants an I-Pod touch for Christmas as it is a heavily ''branded'' product and I have been told by colleagues at work that I should be buying the Archos range.
Now as some of you are aware I am a technophobe and would welcome your opinions as to the relevant advantages/disadvantages of both products please.
From what I have read and heard so far , it appears that many are buying the ''Touch'' for appearance sake.........please advise.

Well, with an I-Pod, I'd have to fiddle about converting all my mp3s so that they'd play on the stupid thing, so I won't touch one with a bargepole.

Dunno about the other one, never heard of it.

Apple market extremely well, and alot of people reckon they are style over substance.

I disagree. The products are very good. And if you do get a fault (i've had a few with my iphone) they will do everything they can to put it right. They're customer service is exceptional.

Apple wins every time.

Look at it this way.

The iPod is an Audi, the other one is a Hyundai. You can see why she would prefer an Audi but the Hyundai is cheaper and does all the same things but perhaps not quite as well.

That's just the point though RD you appear to be paying the Audi price for an inferior vehicle........the Hyundai appears to be faster with more toys but uglier.
I just wish I could find somebody who either has had both or has changed from one to the other.
Unfortunately the £100 in total for presents days seem to have disappeared, 12 year old girls want/need everything to keep up appearances.
No doubt it will disappear into the 'unwanted' cupboard along with the Nintendo DS, Wii, PS3 et al. within the year.

I'd say the I Pod.
Hope the links help you to decide.

Perhaps a better car analogy would be an Audi and a Mitsibushi then. The Mitsibushi has everything the Audi has and a bit more. Quicker, better handling, perhaps more reliable and cheaper. More people would still aspire to own the Audi.
