Family Holiday for next summer
« on November 28, 2010, 02:53:28 pm by MrFrost »
Looking at booking a family holiday somewhere abroad next year. Kids will be 5 and nearly 2 at the time.

Not been on a family holiday since I was a kid so don't really know what Im looking for. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Ideally I want to fly from Donny. I know flights are thought to be more from Donny but id prefer to spend a bit more and fly from my local airport, rather than put money into another towns economy.

Cheers.

When you decide, be good and let us all know what flight you`re booked on, so that we can avoid the inevitable 3 day delay  ;)

Sorry to go slightly off topic here, but does anyone know if there is going to be a new carrier to Barcelona from Donny Airport after EasyJet pulled out? Thinking of going next May.

Thanks in advance

On a serious note, it all depends what your looking for, if you want it dead pan quiet then Menorca is the place to be, but if you want to go to the Balierics I would choose Ibiza, there`s some nice Quieter places on Ibiza like Escana or Santa Elualia, and the island is small enough to get to the more livelier resorts easy enough. Mainland Spain, I would have a look at Salou, not far from Barcelona if you fancy a trip to the Nou Camp, there`s a large waterpark close to Salou as well. Or you could try Benidorm where there`s something for everyone, Benidorm has a large Theme park close by called Terra Mittica and right next to that is a large nature park called Terra Natura, if you go on a night out in Benidorm and you`ve got the kids with you give Sticky Vicky a wide berth  ;)

Not yet. I think the airport is going to struggle to fill the void left by Easyjet. But who knows. You coud give the many Polish routes a try instead!

What are the Canary Islands like?

Full of canaries  ;)

Hot and windy.

I'd recommend camping - we had loads of holidays in France and Spain with companies like Keycamp and Eurocamp. Fantastic campsites with loads of facilities for the kids, different nationalities for them to make friends with, self-catering so you get to experience a bit of real-life, shopping etc, you can use your car to discover towns and beaches off the beaten track.

I`ve only been to Tenerife in the Canaries, Playa de las Americas, we were in low budget apartments and it showed, cockroaches everywhere, take high factor sun cream for the kids, you burn there even when it`s cloudy, the sun is strong being close to the equator, the 4 hour flight might be a bit much for the kids if it`s their first time flying

Ok, if that's the case, then I will probably fly from Leeds/Bradford  :)

Stu, up until 4 years ago, the furthest I'd been alone was to Kings Lynn..A huge 13 miles from my house..... It just isn't high on my list of priorities.

When I was little...

Truth is, I can't drive,  and have always been rather skint.. I am shockingly under traveled..

On the other hand, I live by the sea and have georgous countryside all around I don't think I'll ever expire from the lack of a jaunt..I'm quite content with coming up to Yorkshire...lol

Mind you, if I ever got the chance I would love to go to Rome, florence, Santorini,go to Canada , sail down the Nile or see the Great Barrier reef ..

I just don't think I could ever stand to do the oiled seal thing on a beach..or by a pool..

Well although I'm the complete opposite Jucy, I too can't abide the oiled seal thang. But no matter where I've been over the years, there has always been plenty of alternatives to the pink pillock on the beach syndrome. It doesn't matter where you go to be honest: if you have the inclination, you will always find soemthing interesting, something intriguing, something odd, something wonderful, something scary, something beautiful. The world is a wonderful place. It's the prats who live in it that mess things up.

You'd enjoy Rome Jucy. Along with Prague it was one of the very few capitals not to be flattened in the war. Thank you Field Marshall Kesselring. It's a stunning city. From the low life to the high life it's amazing. spend a day in the Vatican Museum and wonder at the sheer naked greed of Catholicism over millenia. It's one of tyhe most beautiful places on this Earth, and there's enough wealth there to pay off the entire Third World debt 3 times over. It's an obscenity. An obscenity stolen from the sweat of the working man over centuries and centuries. Or wander through the Forum at midnight on a summers' evening. I defy anybody to remain unmoved by that. Look at the balcony which Mussolini used to harangue the crowds. And then look at the super gorgeous Italian girls walking past. A bigger contrast is hard to imagine. I love Rome. Italy actually. But there are many, many other countries I could happily choose to live if the circumstances ever arose.

Cheers

I guess I can never understand why someone would want to go to another country, yet all congregate in a pack demanding egg and chips and beer..

As you say, there is so much to see,( you make it all sound so wonderful by the way Bob) yet for many their experiences go little further than the beach and the bars.. that is so sad.

People spend so much time looking down, they forget to look up..It's like any of our cities, most are drawn by the allure of the wares in the windows, but for me I love what is above. the architecture..Wonderful buildings with tat at eyelevel..

But then, one man's meat is anothers poison and unless you are a slapper or pisshead on an 18-30 shagathon in shagaluf then fair do's..

Try Nerja near Malaga. Beautiful place, not too busy & water parks etc for the kids. Flights from Donny are quite expensive, a lot dearer than Leeds/Bradford .

If you like your cricket, try the Costa Del Edgbaston.

That's where I'll be spending my summer hols in 2011! Including at least one day of the India test. A last chance to see Sachin Tendulkar perhaps.

The world can be a very wonderful place indeed Jucy. I love travelling. I do a great deal of it. And happily, I think I've only ever been on one package :) Even better, I'm determined that Alex sees that there are other cultures, other values out there. He's already been a damn sight further than I had at his age. :D

Lol, charmers aren't they. Ty has just started that one. At the moment I'm ok as I'm his 'flavorite' daddy's mean and mummy smells (he is being honest tho she does.)..

After the 28th of next month I truly don't know what he will be saying about her, she is going back to america to live, and hopefully get herself clean and sorted out once and for all.

I've just realised: Alexander has already visited three separate continents. Bloody hell! That took me until I was 26 years old! He did it by the time he was 8.... And actually, he 'visited' North America in addition while he was in his Mum's tum. Does that count??!

We're off to Alcudia with the kids for the third time in 3 years next summer, always go all inclusive, has cost us £2150 for a fortnight (2 adults, 2 kids of which one is under three years).

What date is that & where are you flying from?. Seems a good price that.

July 22 for 14 nights flying from Doncaster with First Choice.

Accomodation is Jupiter Hotel at Club Mac, great for kids, fantastic water park next door. Booked it 6 months ago though on an 'early bird' Internet offer, god knows if the offer is still on.

Mrs4475, the two kids and me are going to Australia for the six week holidays!

It's been 7 years since I first posted on this forum in it's earlier incarnation as Roverinoz, and I've been hankering to get back ever since! Chuffed to bits it's actually happening this year, and I can't wait to get back out there!

As a lucky omen, I've been out twice before - the first time was a few weeks after the Brittania Stadium Day!

I then went back that Christmas for the year (unfortunately) missing the climax of DRFC's 3rd Division Championship year. So on that footing - it could be that I enjoy the School Holiday period on the other side of the Earth, after a promotion - or building towards one!
