Avalanche alert!
« on December 02, 2010, 10:44:43 am by Filo »
Two houses on my street have had an avalanche of snow from the roof and it`s brought down their guttering, be careful when walking past your house if your guttering is a bit old

That's actually a serious risk. About 20 years ago, the place I worked at had a car park where you parked against the main building wall. 3 storey high building, steep roof. Anyway, one winter there was snow and ice on the roof - a big chunk slid off the roof and landed on top of a car. Totally stoved the roof in. Anyone inside would have been killed, no question.

I remember at uni we used to have signs up warning to be careful of falling snow near buildings.  Quite a danger.

It's happening all over here(Bircotes),I can see three houses from my windows with their guttering and plastic covering fascia's ripped off,one even has his aerial ripped off by the snow.I have two areas of guttering broken and 1 with guttering now pushed 8\" or so away from my facsia.Apparently there are 3 or 4 houses on nearly every street the same round here.Anybody know if it will be covered by house insurance?

Just had a closer look and the facsia has ripped from the wall, the guttering is still attached to the facsia, and it`s pulled his ariel down because the co axial cable was looped around the guttering, it`s now resting on his telephone wire

i blame them pesky pikeys who do facias and soffits. Watch out for everybodys driveways in Hatfield, Stainy and Thorne crumbling under the weight of snow.

The snow came off my roof all at the same time and smashed straight through the conservatory roof. At least three more days before anyone can come out. Scared the shit out of us all when it happened.

Should be covered on your household insurance. If not maybe on the bricks n mortar insurance. Worth reading the small print we never usually bother with!
