Skysports.com understands Doncaster are lining up a move for Aston Villa youngster Ellis Deeney.

The highly-rated left-back is set to link up with Doncaster this week for pre-season training.

The 19-year-old was a member of the Villa youth team that reached the final of the 2009/10 Youth Cup.

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll is in the market for a new left-back and Deeney could fit the bill for the South Yorkshire outfit.

O'Driscoll will cast an eye over Deeney in training before deciding whether or not to pursue his interest in the defender.

Obviously looking at this it is great news, looking at a youngster from a premiership club, but what discourages me is that we now have 3 LB's on the books bieng Freind, Spurr and Chambers. I would rather hear news we are looking at young premiership youngsters who are CB's or goalkeepers...

Chambers wont be playing for about 3-6 months and Friend seems to have made his move to CB permanent.

Apart from the fact he's pretty injury prone and the defensive side of his game is questionable to say the least...what about him?

I'm pretty sure this one is dead in the water. Too injury prone and can get a lot better for cheaper, with southampton bound to play hardball now Sharp turned them down.

Move on.

Anyone know if Spurr has ever played CB or maybe even RB?

Spurr has played plenty at CB. Dont be shocked if he features for us at CB

I think Spurr has played all across the back four, but I'm also pretty sure we have signed him as a left back. It's handy that he can fill in at centre half but I expect him to start the season as first choice left back.

That's not to say we couldn't do with another, especially a young promising player who might not cost the earth. It's all about options.

Apparently Spurr's natural position is CB, and he was converted into a LB after he broke into the first team.

Last season taught us we can never have too much competition, and besides, looks like Friend is first choice CB now!
