Football Manager 2012

Yet again half of the Rovers team are underrated! Even smaller budgets than I remember on last seasons...roll on the challenge! :rtid:

Well, signed Materazzi & Danny Webber but budgets are very very strict.

Not expecting to do much.

Wont be touching this game based on the fact you have to install Steam to use it. Steam has loads of well-documented incompatibilities with other software, including anti-virus.

I know the developers use the excuse its to prevent piracy but that doesnt wash. What is the problem with playing straight from the box?

Nah - I'll stick with the 2011 version.

2011 requires Steam AFAIK.

Anyway, all you have to do is allow Steam to run through your anti-virus and you're set.

Wasn't expecting much in the department of the Rovers, but as a whole the game has come on leaps and bounds this seaon.

I have a Dell Inspiron Duo (Notebook and tablet in one) and in tablet mode FM11 and FM10 are not built for a touchscreen PC especially the size of a notebook. But FM12 surpasses and its a lot easier to use in that department (although if I had smaller fingertips it would be perfect)

Haven't purchased it yet but I'm sure I will at some point. I never start my first game with Rovers though, I like to get to know the game and how its changed from previous versions before I let myself lose on the top job ;)

It's tough on Rovers budget that's for sure, but you can get some good bargains, I just need to sort out a working tactic.  Straight away I sold Naylor, Lockwood, Oster, Wilson, Keegan and Hayter.

Got Lalkovic for a season, James Beattied, Amdy Faye, Cammy Bell (he's good) and a random Argentinian and random Nigerian they seem quality, I'll get their names later, one's a quality centre half.  Keeping Chimbonda's quite easy too.

I've made an update with Diouf and Ilunga at Rovers as well as some other things such as slightly improving players like Bennett and Friend. Also got real competition names eg. UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League etc.

Link

Save (not open) that in C:\\Users\\[Name]\\Documents\\Sports Interactive\\Football Manager 2012\\editor data.

When you 'Start New Game' tick the 'Change' box next to 'Editor Data Files' and then tick 'Update.xml' and confirm. Hope this works for you.

You sure theres only one? If there is, try creating a folder named \"editor data\" where it should be and save the file in there.

I still haven't bought this yet (oddly ) - has anyone tested the league adding/taking away feature?

What would you say the biggest differences between 11 and 12 were?

To find Editor go into the steam client, find tools then scroll down to \"football manager 2012 editor\" you may need to install it if your at a different PC than the one you installed it to steam on, you don't need the disc however and it takes 10 minutes to install and you can have a shortcut on the desktop to find it easier in the future.

It's a tiny bit slower than 11, but the interface is great, the biggest difference is tone when talking to your players, you can choose to be Angry, Assertive, Passionate, Calm, cautious or reluctant, and bieng Angry when a player approached about complaining can work out really well.

The added director Camera is good if you have a PC running an i3, i5 or i7 processor the 3D engine is smooth and works perfect, otherwise it isn't at it's full potential and lags quite a bit, for replays though it always finds the best angle.

Adding a different league is not great, I tried adding Spain in March but had to wait untill July before it came active, I haven't dreamed of un activiating since. Adding leagues in your nation is similar you can't get them straight away and have to wait a while before they become playable and again unless you have a top quality PC I wouldn't recommend doing so.

For the Rovers, surprisingly they are marginally better than usually. I always try a season with a different club and see what happens to the Rovers, in the past we have always been relegated from the Championship, on 2012 I find we always get 15th or above, whether this is because they finally rate us greater or it is because DS is highly rated on the game I don't know.

So unless you have a top quality gaming PC don't expect the speed your used to on recent editions.

I found it eventually.

How is everyone getting on?

For some reason I struggle to stay interested and tend to play a couple of seasons and then start again!

I know what you mean, just not feeling it at all. Maybe they've just gone too far with the realism and it's become too sterile :(  and you can probably tell how much I can get into a good FM game based on the absolute behemoth of a FM2011 thread.

I've started with Wimbledon, signed absolutely tons of free agents, and if I remember rightly I'm sitting in 17th after 5 games.

I did that for a while, playing with different teams, then I had a career with Stevenage, after tempting Marlon Harewood to come for a season I got them promoted and was then offered the Villa job (a week before Stevenage vs Rovers), I accepted and I'm now in 2015 with Villa, having managed to sign Messi and Alves on loan from Barcelona...

Finally got round to spending a bit of time with this. I had technical issues with the game at first and then when I did get it sorted I messed around as Southend for a bit just get familiar with the tactics and new features (a lot of which are just niggly and time consuming if you ask me!).

So anyway, a hugely succesful first season was completed last night, albeit it one that finished with play off heartbreak. I finished fifth with a rediculously high scoring tactic - scored 120, conceded 90. Billy up front on his own (ably backed up by Nile Ranger) scored more than a goal a game. I made a few signings, mainly frees offered to me by agents that had successful trials, none of which were noticeable names. My best players of the current crop were Sharp, Barnes, Gillet (30 assists!), Oster and Copps. None of my signings were stand out as such but all improved my team - signed a Czech keeper and two Scandanavian CBs although Lockwood was doing well for me. Most of the current squad featured at some point in the season, the only players who left without really making an impact were Wilson, Dumbuya, Chimbonda, Hayter, Brown.

Hopefully I can tighten up a bit at the back ready for next season! Managed to extend Sharps contract too although its a bit odd that I've had no interest in him.

I tend to play teams other than Rovers. When I have, I tended to get rid of Lockwood, Wilson kept with the rest and always look for a new keeper. I once took us to second place but I gave up then as it was becoming unrealistic!!;)

Yeh I used to really struggle being Rovers as I never use to be able to bring myself to get rid of my favourite players so would always end up getting promoted then relegated after not strengthening. Theres no way I should have finished 5th, there are quite a few threads on the SI forum about the game being easy although early season I was picking up injuries in virtually every game.
