Well established in the Premiership in 2018/19 and won the title in 2017/18, my tactic is to buy highly promising generated players (the game seems to like them all being French or Dutch for some reason). Scouring France and Holland’s youth teams is well worthwhile after 2 or 3 seasons as excellent youths come through. English generated players who are top drawer seem to have come later for me but i've found a centre half who has earned 20 or so caps for England and he's only 21.

Constantly filling the Keepmoat out too but the max capacity it gets expanded to is about 20k! The board won’t build a new stadium though!

Early tips are to sign Smithies from Huddersfield in the 2nd season along with Sanchez Watt (free from arsenal) and Andy Keogh (usually listed for transfer from wolves pretty cheap asking price). Ben Mee is worth signing too at centre half (think you can get him on a free from City)

Well I got promoted as runner up in the second season, its already starting to mirror my FM11 game!

I have just reached the magic 40 pts in my first Premiership season after 24 games so a very good debut season.

Current players who still feature a lot are Friend, Gillett, Copps and Hird. Billy has been injured most of the season but would still start (6 goals from 8).

Only one big name signing so far - Ben Foster on a free. Most other signings have been Scandanavian or Eastern European as well as the odd youngster picked up from bigger clubs (Clifford from Man City, Crisetig & Belec from Inter, Fabbrini from Empoli).

I've currently got a career based game going. At the minute I'm the Millwall manager and surprisingly on course for two successive promotions, topping the Championship after 28 games! My squad is relatively poor but very effective (so far) for some reason and is limited beacuse of terrible finances.

Rovers are now 19th in League One with Paul Buckle as manager. :D

I haven't played on the FM series since about 2007, but I do want to get back into it. Is FM12 worth buying or would FM11 be better to buy to get back into? By the sounds of it FM12 isn't anyhting special.

I'd agree. I didn't like FM08 or 09 as I really struggled with them. I had amazing games on FM10 and FM11 and the new features are really good. FM12 has expanded the FM11 features but IMO has just gone overboard with player interaction and as such the game doesn't flow as well.

Career game for me too, started unemployed, first job was Sandhausen in German division 3, finished mid table at the end of the season but really improved them, I quit though after having all my budgets cut being told I had to sell players and not replace them yet finish up the top, just wasn't going to happen.

So I took Mansfield job in the conference.  Basically it went amazingly well.  I won the BSP in season 1 there, season 2 there I won league 2, season 3 I finished 3rd in league 1 and won the play offs, season 4 I finished top of the Championship.  But it got tougher as I had no budgets all the way through and relied on free transfers.  But after 10 games I was sat 14th in the Premier league so doing well.  I turned down a lot of jobs but when Man City came calling, well I just had to take it really.  AFter my first 9 games there I've won 8 and drawn 1 so I'm doing ok.  Out of the cups though (blame the previous manager), but improving in the league, think next season will be the one I have to prove myself or it'll be the sack.  Took them over when they were 10th, currently up to 6th so we are improving.

I've done well, but as for Rovers, well they sit mid table in league 2 :(  Bizarrely Billy Sharp signed for Wednesday at the end of the first season and is still there, always scores against me too.

I started unemployed and took the SV Wehen job who were 15th in the German 3. Liga about 14 games into the first season. The finances were a shambles and the wage budget was ridiculously high. The team wasn't great either. Despite this I managed to finish 4th, just outside the playoff place.

Next season I had to reduce the wage bill by half because of the board's lunacy in the previous season at having a £100k pw wage budget at a club with an average attendance of 6000. Still managed to shift out a lot of players and replace them with cheaper, better ones. I ended up winning the league rather comfortably but decided to resign as I thought I could get a better job and didn't fancy struggling in the 2. Bundesliga with poor finances.

I then took the Millwall job, wasn't too keen on it but it was probably the best job that I could get. They'd just been relegated to L1 with a small but good squad. It didn't take much to turn them around and I ended up winning the league pretty easily. After making a few shrewd signings in the summer I'm now top of the Championship, which is better than I expected, I only expected bottom half. Whether I get promoted or not I will probably resign at the end of the season because I want a new challenge.

Thats my FM2012 story so far :D

EDIT: Nearing the end of the season, promotion still a strong possibility!

Scraped over the line despite poor form. :woot:

EDIT: Just recieved this offer from Leicester. Quite tempting actually even though it will be a temporary step down. Not sure whether to take it or wait for a better offer.

Finished my 5th season last night, my 3rd in the Prem and I managed to grab 4th spot on the last day of the season (going into that weekend teams from 3rd-7th all had a chance of either Champions or Europa League football).

The Champions League will be interesting given I don't have many home grown players but I've been signing a few youngsters so hopefully I'll have enough U21 players to leave gaps in the squad.

Due to the young ages of my squad there are very few \"big names\" in my team, even though its only 2016. George Friend is still my back up left back. Billy is a squad player but still lethal in front of goal despite an injury hit couple of seasons. Gillett only just left. Sam Hird is still a decent back up player. I have Ben Foster and Darron Gibson as the only real big names in my squad but the futures bright.

I also got the England job but not played a game yet.

Into my 5th season with the Rovers. Got Carlos Vela, Lansbury, John Fleck, Miles Addison (his stats are very good on the game) , Kyle naughton, Jake Livermore, Kyle Bartley, Roland Linz and a few others I can't think of at the minute. Just got Charlie Adam for 3.2 million and he is my top earner on 45k. Finished 4th in premiership last season and through to the knockout stages of champions league after finishing second in a very difficult group of Real Madrid, Juventus and Dortmund. Was offered Arsenal job at the start of this season but there was no chance of me leaving donny after getting into champs league. The board have also bought the stadium and expansion to 20k will be finished start of next season. Looking good.

The last version I had before 2012 was 2010 and on that the council would never allow planning permission to expand the keepmoat above 23k. The board finally agreed to buy a new 38k stadium in around 2021 and allowed me to choose the name. I called it The John Ryan Stadium.

Mine is currently at 20k but I also have a new one being built, no idea what capacity that will be though. On my 2011 game I got two new grounds in 20 years, ending up with a 60k capacity.

i should add that the option to ask the board isnt highlighted.

As long as there is a high demand for tickets and the clubs finances are secure the board will announce that they intend to build a new stadium.
I imagine there is some sort of calculation that the game works out automatically eg, cost of stadium, projected profits, how long to pay loan back and wether you would still be able to meet the loan payments and pay your staff etc. For me its always just happened out of the blue but I've always had a healthy bank balance, made good year on year profits and sold out almost every game.

Also check the finances section. This area tells you things that the board are planning. It's possible that a new stadium is getting planned but no announcement has been made.

What year are you in when your new stadium is being built? I've now hit 2020 nearing the end of the 19/20 season, 3 first team England regulars and one youngster who has got a handful of caps. Donny sitting pretty at the top of the prem (if i dont win it i'll be disappointed).

My big mission is to get a new stadium built as i'm getting bored of only get 20k attendance a game but i've never had an option to ask the board to build one and there's no info saying they're planning one!

I haven't got far enough in 2012 version to have one yet but it took a long time to get one on my old game. If you compare the price of your season tickets and average  ticket price against other clubs this should give you an idea of how high demand is for tickets. If its high compared to the other clubs then building a stadium won't be far off as the board will only raise the ticket price to a certain point then buy a new stadium.

It's available on iOS by the way, although not as in depth.

From reviews I've read, it's not as good as on PC, but it isn't bad. I'd get it, but wouldn't pay over the odds for it - they always seem to remind me of the older FM (and CM before the split) games when on iOS and PSP.

There is no new stadium planned into the game i dont think, if you know how to use the data editor(its pretty easy when you know how) You can do it that way. Ive ust used it to bring in EHD/Bakayoko/Bamago/Robert/Diatta/Baye/Plessis and move Billy/Wilson out, its a great tool, theres a guide on you tube on how to access it:

Hope this helps!:rtid:
