The defence is way too poor for England to be a major threat in the tournament. When Glen Johnson has been the best defender in the first two games (he of the "Oh f**k! Out of position again, better try that last-ditch sliding tackle" approach to defending) it says it all.

Certainly entertaining last night, and better going forward, although the organisation we saw against France wasn't there at all. It seems we have to either have one or t'other, which is why we're not going to win it. Rooney coming back will help us, as we often look short of ideas up front which invites pressure onto the midfield and causes us to drop deep.

You never know though, I suspect Roy was watching a lot of Greek games from Euro 2004 when setting up his team for this tournament, and they ended up winning it with a similar gameplan to us.

Talking of the Greeks, how about putting Russia out?  Didn't see that one coming.
