Tactics for tonight.
« on October 02, 2012, 01:44:19 pm by nice one rovers »
My son wants to know if his idea for team tactics is legal or not.
Goalie stays in goal (just in case). One player has the ball at his feet and dribbles it all the way to the oppositions goal. The other 9 players surround person with the ball so that no-one can tackle him on the way. They get to the net and tap it in.

I have no answer.

Interesting.

Imagine the possession efficiency rating this crafty masterstroke would deliver.

Three points are guaranteed.

Also known as the wooden horse attack i had a book when i was a child that discriped this exact tatic
Though i believe that it would be classed as obstruction

Worth a go prob end up with all ten outfield players booked o

I don't think it has any rule against it, though I think you could easily counter it by getting a few players to stand in front of the other team, and you'd probably get a foul eventually. Either that or just have your keeper rush out as soon as they get in the box because as soon as you touch him it's a foul these days.

It is something I've heard suggested before though believe it or not!

OK, I'll admit it, I'm ITK. Watch out tonight, if we're 1:0 down at 89 minutes.....

Having just finished reading "Inverting the Pyramid" it says basically that is how teams used to play in the early days of football.

Like the idea however, what would stop the opposing players making a larger circle around our players in a ring-a-roses stylee though?

Our possession would be near 100% but we would get no shots on goal, and we'd probably be in our half for the full term of our possession.

Don't suppose your son has got any other tricks up his sleeve?

It`s obviously a tactic for the player with a fuller figure, 11 Robbie Blake`s and the opposition would n`t create a full circle ring a roses style with 11 players, thus leaving gaps in the defence we could exploit! :)

It's obstruction obviously. Indirect free kick.

Word from the training ground is that the lads have been studying the secrets of the ancients to unlock deep end tonight;

11/10 to the hooped heroes, clawing back a 10 goal half-time deficit. You couldn't make it up!
