Breaking news! Sammy Clingan...

I've just heard a very strong rumour that Sammy Clingan is putting pen to paper as we speak. Going straight into the side tomorrow!

I thought you'd have said "Clingan's on the Starboard Bow."  ;)

Let's hope it goes through- quality midfielder.

Trust me RB, it'll go through.

About time really though, we did look at signing him when Copps left.

Very pleased with the signing but, does this mean the door now slams permanently shut on a return to the Rovers for Copps?

I'll believe it when it's on dros
Except for the vid interviews with Dean and match reports, has DROS acknowledged the arrival of Griffin yet?

Maybe I should have used a different word rather than 'rumour'!

That's two great signings, Griffin and Clingan, game changing for us I think.

If the rumour that Copps is not a big fan of Dean's is true, same as the rumour that Clingan is not a Fan of Sod's,then it's probably likely he will not want to come back for long whatever happens, and is probably for the better, considering the wages involved.
Signing Clingan is excellent news in my opinion.Could be a vital addition to a league one promotion side, just as much as when we signed Richie Wellens,Brian Stock or Matt Mills.  :scarf: :scarf: :scarf:

Its not a non-contract deal, its a signing until the next transfer window in January. Suits both parties.

If we signed Messi on a 2 year deal someone would moan it wasn't a 3 year deal!

I love the Star Trekkin' theme song for this lad. It fits a treat, in the verse we could sing......
"Stars trekkin', along the Rovers turf" etc. etc.
"Clingan's on the staboard bow" is a must for this lad. Brilliant.

Clingan signed on a month to month contract according to DRFC official tweet. Subject to FL ratification.

Yes, I've seen that, not what I was told earlier, but no problem I'll clear that up later. Still a good signing though.

I would n`t bank on him staying around too long, he rejected new deals at Forest, Norwich, and Coventry, whilst he was at those clubs, all because he thought the grass was greener elsewhere. Geat signing if he stays long enough mind

He's been unemployed all season, why would any club come in for him now when they didn't before?

Good performances, proving his worth between now and January? which would be good for us in the short term, but he has a history of going where he thinks the grass is greener, maybe he`s learned from that seeing as every time he`s done that he`s found out it was the wrong move

Financially makes sense though, we probably lack the funding for a longer deal.  Ironically this is not much different to the deals done last season I assume, therefore I expect a lot will criticise but in our position with the budget taken and the question mark about the cost we'll have in January when I expect we'll have to take Coppinger back it's probably sensible.  It's sort of a loan deal without a parent club really.  Also been questions over his fitness, well if they arise he's out the door on a deal like this.

For me these deals have worked well in the past, rarely has a player who's succeeded on a short term deal left for elsewhere and rarely have they failed to perform, think Mark Wilson, Giles Barnes, Billy Sharp's initial loan, Brian Stock's initial loan etc.  Hopefully he impresses we keep picking up results and we end up keeping him and winning the title.... We can hope.

Its a pretty good deal all round.

He's signed for two months and we have an option to extend that, which of course we will if he lives up to his reputation. Good work again by the DRFC people involved.

Good signing month by month is good for us and the player. Dean said on the Radio yesterday we will see what position we are in at the turn of the New Year and then decisions will be made whether we go for it. With money we get for going up it may be worth while, we will wait see what the board decide. The signing albeit short term of Sammy Clingan is a good start to add to the other signings already.

Do you know if he was one of the names on Deano's "wish list" which seemed to mysteriously get lost?

OK, a couple of questions here which I'll try to answer.

Firstly, yes he was on the 'wish list' but the choice not to sign him then was Deano's, although his agent might have also have had a say in that!

Burton, not sure about that one, but my understanding is that we are constantly monitoring the situation and moving/acting when we need to so anything could happen.
