So how many points do you reckon we will need for safety this season.? I know usually it's about 50 but will this season be different?

Possibly what with Hartlepools struggling to get many points. I reckon another 6 wins will do us

I think about 50 points will be enough to be honest. There's a real lack of quality down there but the extra relegation place makes up for that. Though it is refreshing not to be looking down that end of the table for a change.

I don't think we will be anywhere near close to worrying about it.........strange and negative thread imo.

I don't think it's that negative, it's just that old managers' cliche about the first target being 50 points. The sooner you get there, the sooner you can start looking up the table. Though given our collapse at the start of 2011 it'd be nice to get this particular hurdle out the way!

I'd expect us to be clear of relegation worries around middle of January.

Deano said this about a month ago that one of his first jobs was to get 50 points for safety then see where we are from there

I guess if we have 50 around the new year then that gives us 4 months to get 40 ish points to get top two/three stop so ten points a month easy then

I thought if we had 30 points by the end of 2012 we'd be OK, so we are well ahead of target.

We were hovering round the playoffs a couple of seasons ago only to be hit by a massive injury crisis and end up worrying about safety. How quickly people forget. It's not negative to think about making sure you're safe in the league you're in before anything else.

In 2010-11 our 17th game of the League season was also away at Portsmouth. We won that 3-2 and had 26 points, so we're 4 ahead of that particular schedule. After we beat Scunny 3-0 on New Year's Day 2011 our record was played 22, points 33.

Not sure I could envisage a similar collapse again but like you, I tend to be cautious about these sort of things. 50 points by the end of Feb would be nice, though, and would give us something to play for in the last two months of the season.
