A year ban for failing a drugs test at last year's TDF.

Why only a year? It should really be a longer sentence for doping at any of the grand tour events.

Only a year due to it being a diuretic rather than epo or the like, so it isn't doping.  If he's taken it by mistake as he claims then it's too long, but if he's used it to mask or as part of a larger program then it's nowhere near long enough.

It would be a lot easier for cycling if they just legalised everything.

I wonder if giving life time bans to a big name or two wouldn't shake things up a bit. Sort of like a big club going bust would send shockwaves through English football.

Making things easy doesn't make it right.

The sort of testing in athletics and cycling won't be far away for football.  The pressures to win and money on offer is easily transposed from sport to sport and i refuse to believe that there are no footballers involved in performance enhancing drugs and blood doping.

I don't for one second think it would be the 'right' thing to do. But it would level the playing field up once and for all. There will be plenty of riders taking stuff now, that boosts their performance, that the UCI don't know about. They only stumbled upon EPO fairly recently, I have no doubts other, similar, substances are yet to be found.

I loved the latest Lance excuse about cheating, when he said about the early cheaters would just jump on a train instead.
As if that makes things better Lance! Keep digging ol' fella  :)

Looking forward to hearing the extent of the Spanish doctor's hearing. I really hope Snr C*ntador gets whats coming to him this time round.

The problem is that everyone doping wouldn't make it a level playing field as people respond differently to it, especially epo.  You're also persecuting those who choose to stay clean, something that was glossed over during the Oprah Winfrey interview with Armstrong and the clean careers he trampled all over.

They certainly do, Tommy Simpson and the girl who dropped down dead in the London Marathon for two - thats why doping is banned, not just for the performance, but because it is dangerous.
