Cheap(er) Energy
« on February 15, 2013, 01:33:36 pm by RobTheRover »
Barnsley Council/Berneslai Homes are promoting the Big Community Switch scheme (YORSwitch).  I've checked it out and although they say it is open to residents of Barnsley it is actually open to all residents of Yorkshire.

Basically, everyone needs to sign up to this before April 8th.  On April 9th all the utility providers will be invited to tender for a collective supply agree to supply us all.  Its a bit like the contract I manage for Barnsley Council.  Instead of 22p a kWh for leccy, our contract is under 10p a kWh, thanks to collective (bulk) bargaining to supply our entire portfolio of buildings.  Which? did one of these last year and the average saving was £233 a year.

Once the best deal is found, everyone who signed up will get a personalised agreement and a couple of weeks to decide whether to take it or stay as they are.

See http://bigcommunityswitch.ichoosr.com/Product/index.rails?actionId=288&utm_medium=web&location=HpBerneslaiHom for more details.
