The problem is Dave - when would this winter break be? We have had games called off in January and are now talking about one being called off at the end of March. Are you really suggesting a 4 month break?

The problem is not the weather but adapting to it, either with undersoil heating or artifical pitches.

No chance of clubs affording these essentials whilst the Premier League bleeds the game dry sadly.

How about cutting a small amount from the prem and directly financing lower league facilities. Less wastage on parachute payments and more on training facilities and undersoil heating etc across the whole 92.

Forecast for Saturday getting worse all the time.
IF the BBC has it right. Yes, it's a big IF, we have little chance of playing

They wont do that, because that's helping out the lower divisions, although I personally think it's a great Idea.

The problem with undersoil heating is the cost of running it, not so much the installation. Do we know if Scunny have got the sheets out?

Snow can be cleared relatively easily, with enough people and time and the pitch may be playable underneath.  It is the surrounding areas that can be just as problematic.

The balance of the cost of preventing more postponements may outweigh the costs of rescheduling matches.

Forecast looks alright to me now. It doesn't look like it will dip below zero until Saturday night, and the snow looks like it might stay just west of Lincolnshire.

It might not cause a postponement in itself, Yargo, but it will certainly prompt a pitch inspection, and if the ref deems any part of the pitch is a danger to the players then he will call it off.

Its a waiting game now to see if John Kettley and his pals have got it right......

Friday, Scunthorpe:

"Light, locally moderate snow and blizzard conditions, mainly south of the region, giving significant accumulations over hills, but perhaps falling as rain or sleet near some eastern coasts."

Saturday, Scunthorpe:

"Heavy snow and blizzards continuing through much of Saturday, slowly dying out during Sunday. Monday is mostly dry with some sunshine. Very cold and windy throughout."

Problem likely not the fact its snowing, but the length of time its snowing combined with the sero temperature......Just analysing the latest data given to my employers, where weather conditions are quite crucial, it is now predicted from around 19:30 on Friday through to approx 10:30 on Sunday.....the heaviest period/ blizzards being between 10:00 - 14:00 on the saturday.

Not looking good, and Id rather the game be on to be honest.....not as if I'm going as I will be at work.

Hoola

It's a Freudian slip. It indicates what you were thinking g as you were writing, you grey dirty get.
A bit like the blogger I read a few weeks ago, talking about the MP Matthew Hancock. The writer called him Matthew Handjob.

Mind, given the fact that the MP in person is a Tory minister and champion of Austerity who made a big thing during the election of the "fact" that Austerity would boost growth, maybe the blogger had it right.

Hope it is on, but can't see it. Tuesday night will probably prevent a few from going, which is a shame seeing as we have sold out.

If the game IS called off then the likely date for a rearranged fixture is Tuesday 23rd April. We have a game (v Carlisle) on Tuesday 9th and Scunny are at Bury on Tuesday 16th.

Be a bit of sickener if it's called off which looks likely BUT, it will give a chance for Syers to get back in to the squad and Lundstrams injury to heal properly.

Blunts v Brentford looks a no go. They are forecasting ten inches of snow in Sheffield on Saturday. Looks like the Blunts will have to play two midweek games one week because the only midweek they have no game, Brentford are already playing. We have eight games in the last four weeks and they have nine if both are off but at least we have a few midweek slots.

This time last year I went to watch Rovers in a t-shirt, it was about 25 degrees at Southampton.

Out of interest, how would they manage that?
