Supporting the Belles - Petition & Update
« on May 16, 2013, 02:23:26 pm by VivaRovers »
The article I linked on this forum about the Belles appears to have gone viral today, with close to 5,000 views today alone.

I've now penned an update which can be found here; http://popularstand.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/the-belles-toll-update-and-points-of-action/

It includes a simple two-point plan of action which everyone can help with;
1. Sign the Petition we've created (available via that link)
2. Go to the Games - Get yourself to the Belles v Everton on Saturday

To speed things up for folk, here's a link straight to the petition; http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/doncaster_belles_versus_the_fa/

Although I advise reading the article for context and details about Saturday's game against Everton

Signed the petition - come on everyone, get signing against this ridiculous decision!

The FA should be ashamed, but they won't be!  :headbang:

I'm not justifying the approach of the FA, but is this approach not pretty similar to the re-election process that existed in the men's game for a long time?

Similar though there was a link with league positions even then. For example in the very old second division like when we we're relegated in 1903, the bottom three clubs had to apply for re-election (we were voted out whilst the bottom two survived). In latter years with Division 4 it was the bottom club only that was voted on.

This is the worst scenario of that smokey, cognac soaked decision making. Its like creating the Prem League and voting in the eligable clubs with no regard for merit whatseover.

Another excellent article Glen and a laudable effort.

Thanks for bringing this travesty to our attention.

As soon as the petition is back up (sabotage...?!) I'll be adding my signature.

Can't the Belles just get promoted immediately back to the top division or have I read the changes wrong?

No promotion or relegation. It's closed off.

That's not correct.

Bottom of WSL 1 gets relegated / Champions of WSL 2 get promoted.

"Promotion and relegation will be introduced between the two leagues at the end of the 2014 season, with one club being promoted and one being relegated."
Read more at http://www.thefa.com/News/2012/dec/fa-wsl-applications-2014.aspx#piylH9wJVJpujTeg.99

In any case why not support the team by putting the argument in reverse?  If financially/commercially DRBFC are inferior to the rest, they should end up being relegated anyway.  The problem with this theory is Liverpool Ladies were bottom the last two seasons.  The FA seem to want to give LLFC a chance rather than DRBFC.

I wonder why?

.. more like they are fiddling  'unsportingly'with the compostion of the to league  before they introduce more  sporting rules in 2014. NO effing values in the governing body and unfortunately it all flows down from the top of the mountain where the top man in the Football world sets the standards of ethics and values ,in Blatterland

Had to recreate the petition elsewhere as it crashed and disappeared on the original host.

Celtic - http://kerrydalestreet.co.uk/topic/8813012/1/

Ipswich - http://www.twtd.co.uk/forum/267649/2113054/

Looks like the word is getting around. Perhaps someone could let them know about the petition if they have an account on either.

IF Promotion and relegation is to be introduced in 2014,Why don't the FA just make Man city enter at WSL 2?and then atleast they will have to gain merit of promotion from WSL 2 to WSL 1.Seems if you put Logic and the FA together you end up with Sweet FA.

Let's put it on all our fans' forum links  . This is a Football matter that goes to the heart of the problem facing all but the Premiership few . I've put it on my Facebook timeline too.

Thank you to all those who have signed and shared thus far, it is appreciated. But please don't stop there. Get down to the Belles game on Saturday, bring friends, family etc. and show the FA and all that the Belles have the support to justify their place in the top flight.

Saturday's game vs Everton kicks off at 6pm; admission is £6 adults and £3 children/concessions or FREE if you take a bell with you.

Be great to have a whole load of people down there creating some noise and showing the team and the players who have been left gutted by this decision that Doncaster does support them.

I must admit, I feel a bit guilty in that I have not watched a Belles game since the Gill Coultard and Karen Walker days, when they were THE powerhouses of women's football long before Arsenal appeared on the scene.

I'm sure those two could put there weight behind the campaign. Karen's a police officer now isn't she? And what about Sue Smith. Media savvy with her TV punditry for the women's game?

Anyhow, I suppose as Glen said, the best way we can support this, is by turning up to the games.
