That can't be right, I thought that the smaller club usually played at home in friendlies.

fcuk me thats a good one as there is a connection between some
donny lads and lads from their firm saturday service.

they used to come down donny in mid 1980s,and we went up there
for a motherwell v celtic game,about 15 handed.

when ever donny played up at carisle a handfull of their lads would make the trip down to game, and were present at newcastle v
donny.

some of theirs bought rovers hooped shirts, but could never wear
round motherwell as they looked too much like local rivals hamilton
shirts.

was up motherwell about 8years back for the nite as was passing by.

yer man who wrote their book put us up and was well looked after.

it was a thursday nite and quite a few of theirs made the time
and effort to come out for a few jars.

was in a pub on this estate that had no windows in it at all
due to fact they had all been bricked up.

just a doorway to let you in and let you out.

was not just their lads that were more than good to us,but
the normall locals were bang on with us due to the conections
between two sets of lads.

i could not buy a drink that nite,as all was bought for us.

Have lived up near Motherwell for past 10 years and have cultivated an awareness of DRFC up here, I bring a group of guys down for a game and night out at least once a season, dream friendly for me, if anyone of status at DRFC is reading this, make it happen. Thanks

the connection with us started back in 1980s when a well known
donny normall fan fron thorne ...C...got hooked up with some
of motherwells firm lads.

he invited some down to donny for weekend and were shown the
highs of donny town centre nite life.

C went back up to motherwell on a few occasions before we went up
15 handed for the said celtic game at fir park.

i was in high bar on a friday nite just before chucking out time, when
..C.. asked us if i fancy getting on 00.30 train upto edinbrugh then
onto to motherwell and we would all be put up by whoever.

the mwell v cletic game got called off due to frozen pitch but we
spent all day in centre focus a pub just next to mwell train station.

saw my 1st fried mars bar

at end of nite in said pub,the dj cut the music to anounce that 15
doncaster lads had come up for the celtic game and need somewhere
to kip for the nite.

us donny lads just stood at front like plums as whoever walked
up and said i will look after him.

some lad and his girlfriend took me back to their gaff and i cant recall
their names for life of us.

for some reason they had me saying ...carrot.. all nite as my accent
creased them up.

I went to a Motherwell game last year my companies head office is on Eurocentral  and I was up there for a couple of weeks so to relieve the premier inn boredom after a week and half that's where I ended up

Motherwell is very similar to Donny in many ways, industrial town demolished by Maggie, down to earth working class folk, now most jobs are call centres and the like etc etc. One difference is they like a drink, people joke about the Scots and their drinking, but it's so true

tbh I enjoyed it up there, I normally only appear for a day or two so the Premier Inn is ok, if a bit out of it, but up there for a couple of weeks I started getting out and about a bit...............don't ask me where I ended up though bloody scotsmen all they wanted to do was get me drunk  as you say like Donny in many ways which is probably why I enjoyed it

Only time I've been to Motherwell was when Leeds went there in a friendly, two years ago. Does that make me the enemy?

Scottish football isn't that bad, until you get to the 3rd Division, where the standard is appalling.

You say that Rigo, however one of the best matches I have been to for atmosphere and entertainment was Ross Co vs Inverness CT in the Scottish 3rd division about 16 years ago, on a cold wet tuesday evening.  Most crowds in that division are 2-300 but that was a 4,500 sell out.

Anyone remember what happened when we played Livingston at OBV on 29/7/2003?  We were handed our arses.

We're two leagues higher than that now to be fair and it was only a friendly. I think it's fair to say the SPL is below our standard when players and manager who have flopped in L1/L2 are having success there.
