Well Done Mr Dickov
« on October 08, 2013, 11:31:09 am by IC1967 »
I was a bit sceptical when he was given the job but quite happy to give him a chance. I must say I'm very pleased with his progress so far and think JR has once again got it right when appointing managers. He's generated a brilliant team spirit and has combined a passing game with lots of pressing when we haven't got the ball. He seems to be the best mix of SOD and Deano so you can't say fairer than that.

I think thats a good summary, IC, but remember that the appointment was unanimously supported by all the board.  PD came across in interviews extremely well and, to be fair, is doing the same in his dealing with fans and the media.  He strikes me as being very determined in being the best manager he possibly can, and will never be happy unless he has done all he can to give the team the best chance of succeeding.

Take the win at Sheffield Wednesday as an example.  Dickov made positive changes at half time, Jones was happy not to make changes until it was too late and we had wrested the initiative in our favour.

Credit to for his team selection too on Saturday. Although he was forced to make a change due to Richie Wellens being poorly, his selection was 100% correct.

I really like the way he conducts himself on the touchline. There is an occasional 'discussion' with the fourth official but overall he exudes calm. Something that he wants to see in his team on the pitch.

Think the worry with PD prior to him arriving was his fierce reputation as a hothead and his lack of managerial experience at Championship level. Its still early days but Paul has proved the 'unsure brigade' – me included, completely wrong. He's been brilliant. His tactical nous seems very good, he's got the brains and balls to make proper changes in a game, and his communication with media and the fans probably points to the fact he's a good communicator with the players too. Only thing we have to worry about is him getting lured away too early to an apparently bigger and better job elsewhere. Bide your time Paul, learn your trade lad.

Well i'm more than impressed with him....It's great to have a manager who is prepared to shake things up at times...The thing I have been impressed with most is his tactical play...but i'm delighted with him so far and his signings have been really good...Couldn't ask for any better...All I wanted this season was to give ourselves a fighting chance of staying up and weve more than got that so for me Happy days..lol

Not taking anything away from PD, but I think credit should also go to Brian Horton. Paul appears not to be afraid of seeking advice on the touchline and presumably on the training ground.

Which is a credit to Paul himself too. Oldham fans accused him of being unwilling to ask for help, at least he's learned from that if true.
