Rob's injury does not sound very good either for him or the squad. Headed the ball in practise before the game, felt something pop in the back of his neck and lost feeling down his arm. Hope he is ok after he the scan.

Wow that sounds bad. Think we should probably expect a cb to come in on loan soon

Sounds to me like a trapped nerve in his neck. It will either settle down and be OK within a few days or he'll be out for a while, maybe needing surgery.

Hi, I'm struggling with nerve problems after a hernia op a year ago, all muscle/physical problems are gone but I'm prone to constant nerve type pain..  What's the deal with nerve block injections..  Is it a temp solution or does it effectively kill thee nerves for good?, because I cud certainly do with a solution..  Cheers.

Don't know if they would help you but they are used a fair bit with back/neck problems, how long do they last...........days .weeks...months....years results vary but you can only have so many

anyway you have a boring pm  :)

Chiropractors. Hmmm.

I spent several thousand quid over ten years having my back manipulated by a chiropractor because of chronic weakness in the ligaments holding the sacro-iliac joint in place. Would get a few days of relief, then have the muscles tighten again and be in somewhere between annoying low grade discomfort to bloody agony for a fortnight before the next appointment. Was specifically warned off doing exercises involving the lower back by the chiropractor.

Eventually I did a bit of reading around and found several people on-line who said they self-managed the problem by doing intensive lower-back muscle strengthening and flexibility exercises to stabilise the joint and make the muscles more resilient in case of any joint instability.

So I stopped doing chiro and set up my own exercise regime. Result is that I have had barely a twinge in 4 years and am regularly running 10k road races, which was simply impossible 4 years ago.

I came to the conclusion that this particular chiropractor was either incompetent or corrupt. Either way, they took nearly £4k off me without doing anything whatsoever to address the underlying condition.

As BST says Spud, they get rid of the pain for a short time but then it comes back, they are in the business to make money not cure anything. Why do you think they are called quacks?

When's McCombe going to be back?

I had no complaints about him in League One, Kumalo seems to be able to play the Rob Jones role that McCombe played alongside for most of last season.

Fair comments guys but as you say there's chiropractors & chiropractors. My chiropractor has always given me homework tbf.
I first went about 8 years ago when i was ready for packing football in as it gave me chronic sciatica. I still play now & see my chiro about twice a year, for different niggles work-related.
I do know others who've had bad experiences as yourselves with different chiro's but for something that could be as simple as a trapped nerve don't rule it out.

Personally I've done most chiro, physio, osteopaths, acupuncture etc over the years and still ended up with some pretty hefty surgery and a "plastic disc/spacer" (wallis ligament if anybody really wants to ggogle it) I'm still under my physio but its more a maintenance job now but I have to wear a support belt  virtually all the time I have a heavyweight job for when I'm at work and a lightweight model for general wear  with my physios blessing, and for them to agree thats the only course of action is pretty well non existent

My missis reckons its just a man corset to keep the beer belly under control

Spud I totally agree  if its "just" a trapped nerve don't rule any of the options out some suit some, some suit others
"Just" a trapped nerve is  not mean't as "just" cos it can be bloody agony

Yesterday proved how much we need him at the heart of our defense, they we're like a group of kids who'd just been left in the classroom by their teacher.

I recommend Rob  stops bending down every time he has  a photo taken with a fan  . No wonder he has neck vertebra problems !.

After the match, I was going down the West Stand stairs to the exit and many fans around me were moaning about the Rovers performance and who'd played badly etc.

Just then, Rob Jones appeared on the stairway with his young son - they had been watching the match from the viewing room above the West Stand.

At that point, one fan engaged Rob in polite conversation and all the other fans who were moaning, went strangely silent.  It was like being back at school when the headmaster entered the room!!

At the risk of being severely abused by all and sundry - I think McCullogh did a great job, and felt Rob wasn't as big a miss as we all expected. In think we missed his organisation and influence but felt we managed without his defensive capabilities. Sounds bizarre to say that after a 3-1 loss, but the goals came from 2 great strikes and one quality 'fox-in-the-box.'

I'm not going to shout you down. I thought McCullough did a steady job for a 19 year old debutant. But if you really think we didn't miss Jones, go and have a look at the header from the corner for the second goal. McCullough was physically bossed in a way that Jones would not have been.

I thought McCullough did well, but I'd have been happier see him make his debut in happier circumstances- ideally with Rob Jones alongside him.

He did well considering it was a very last minute ask for him to step in. Steady if unspectacular.

The full-backs were all over the place, so I had some sympathy for McCullough. I was a bit disappointed in Khumalo who I thought would take over the job of marshalling the defence. Wasn't he SA's captain at one point? I expected a bit more visible leadership.

Just thought I would let you know that McCombe was interviewed in the Premier Lounge on Saturday and said he had sorted his problem out now but it could be three months before he is fit again.

Not true, I saw him clear a corner with a header in the first half, there may have been others too.

I've always liked a swarter, quicker CB alongside the big man. A good eg being Sam Hird with Matt Mills BUT, we lose height at set pieces which are a big part of the game. Do you play McCullogh and be tidier in open play and risk the set pieces?

Hird quick? He ran like he was towing a caravan.
