Half Season Ticket Idea
« on November 08, 2013, 09:47:01 am by Belle_Vue »
No I don't mean buying one at Christmas.

But what if the club did a cheaper season ticket for example half price with a 'pay per view' sort of deal.
Such as I can pay £100 for a season ticket and then pay on the gate £10 or whatever at the games I go to.

This might encourage people that know before the start of the season they can't get to every home match. So don't see the point in buying a full season ticket. For whatever reason they might be working every other saturday etc.

The customer still gets a reserved seat and other season ticket bonuses and every game they decide to go to they pay a smaller amount each time.

For the club it could encourage more people buying season tickets and also people who have these half season tickets may be encouraged to attend more games due to already paying for half the product.

Also in todays world people are short of disposable income that could be spent on things such as season tickets. If you go to buy a car you can finance it, same if you buy a house. Even smallet purchases like washing machines and sofas. Why not season tickets?
This would encourage people to buy a season ticket that don't have £300 spare in july. Finace terms could suit the individual some pay it in 4 months some pay in 12 months with different levels of deposit.

Now I'm not saying the club becomes wonga.com but there are finance companies that would do this such as barclays.
The club could even make more money in finance commission!

The club already finance season tickets. Barclay's wouldn't touch football clubs!

Alternatively, people could just save for their season tickets throughout the season and then buy one in the close season. Its never a surprise when tickets go on sale or how much they are, it is pretty consistent year on year. I have never quite got my head around why people then moan about the lack of financing... the best form of finance is to simply save, but as usual, people want everything made 'easy' without taking any responsbility!

That isn't quite true. Barclays did a Barclaycard which offered interest free terms on season tickets over £250. However that product got took off the market about 3/4 years ago and they have stopped replacing expired cards and moved them to standard terms instead.

Zebra seem to be heavily involved with season ticket financing but at about 20% APR.

The club used to work alongside Danum Credit Union too to offer cheap financing which allowed people to get their season ticket via a loan, with very cheap interest rates and then save at the same time but the take up wasn't that great and that soon stopped too.

Yes, but the club, DRFC, are financing the deals themselves now.

The purpose of my post was ideas to increase attendance and income for the club.

One reason people keep complaining about is the price offfootball. So these two ideas are ways in which it could be more affordable.
The idea is not because people can't take responsibility. But ways in which the club could improve attendance.

When people buy a new or used car this is a luxury item (not a necessity) the same as going to watch football being a luxury.
People know a car might cost £10k but still want to buy it, finance gives them a way they can buy it. The same as football people keep moaning they want to go, but can't afford it because ticket prices are too high. If this is true, this would help the problem

So if there are schemes in place? If so were back to that old problem lack of advertising these schemes. Because all I have read by fans lately about rovers is maoning and one of the things being moaned about is ticket prices

The financing by the club is on the season ticket application forms isn't it? My understanding was that it was financed through the summer (with a slight admin fee) so that it had to be paid for before the season started - hence if payments weren't made you don't get your book.

Which for me is where the issues re financing lie - if you spread the cost over the season what happens if someone doesn't pay? With paper season tickets, the administration of a season long finance deal is impossible. Which is where you would involve a finance company and take away the risk for the club of not getting money, but at a cost to the club and a cost to the individual. If prices put people off, financing costs even more....

It's easy enough to get a 0% credit card and get yourself an interest free season ticket purchase. My current one is 16 months 0% on purchases. If your credit rating isn't good enough to get one then frankly you've got other stuff to be spending your money on than season tickets.

Like Jenny says though, easiest way is just to save up, it's not a shock that football costs money. But if you can't afford it, then don't get one, and pick and choose your games.

Hense the first idea, the half season ticket and then cheaper pay per view. Would give people another option.
Some people can only make midweek games, this would suit them also

I put forward the option of a deposit and pay as you go at £10 a game. The more you go, the cheaper it gets. The club are considering a host of solutions as we speak. Fingers crossed, we will have a range of ticketing options that won't be dependant on a Finance company.

Or just buy a multigame ticket?

Bradford City started something similar last season and it proved popular.
I don't know how many took it up but obviously they have a far bigger ground than us so it's easier to accommodate floating fans.

Actually I think its a good idea £100/£150 down, then £X per game via ticket office, make it work out a bit more expensive than a normal season ticket if you attend all games ,  no reserved seat for all games but guaranteed seat somewhere in the stand of choice if booked at least a week in advance, or somewhere in the stadium if not.

Its all about options for the customer(and getting money into drfcs coffers) a multigame might suit some this sort of arrangement may well suit others
