That wouldn't be somewhere near the North Bridge, would it? I seem to recall going to St Peter's RC Primary School there in 1948...........4 years before my first ever Rovers match against Nottm Forest in 1952. Happy days .

Happy days .Yes it was down near the old baths, I went for an interview there when I completed my apprenticeship at ICI, his company supplied and repaired pneumatic tools and compressed air related products. In the end I stayed at ICI until 1993 and never worked for Bernie but he was a nice bloke!
Haha a bucket full of stuff, a long stand and a left handed screwdriver!!My Dad worked at BNS and ICI in the 60's, most of the time in the staple area but he did a few other jobs in various areas. I didn't start until 1978 as an apprentice, really enjoyed it looking back, particularly the early years. How long were you a referee as my ex-father in law was a ref. Also, reference referee's, I worked with a guy at ICI who was a ref and his brother was the Headmaster in the best film of all time.........KES ; ) That's my claim to fame!

I worked in the lab. at ICI testing nylon and chemicals and monitoring stuff like humidity, temperature, etc..I took up refereeing in 1962, and carried on for the next 48 years or so! Never managed to ref. at FL level, but I did end up on the Conference in the 1980's. Never forget reffing matches such as Maltby Main v Denaby Utd, and the local derby between Woodlands Social Club and Highworth Youth. Bloody hell, talk about legalised violence on a football pitch!
I did a bit of contracting at Croda when I worked for Paragon Plastics, we thought that the canteen was brill as we got meal Allowances and always had beer money change. I was working late there and missed the Blackburn league cup match because of it. I might have played in a match reoffend by you as I played in the Donny Sunday League between 66 and 73 . Happy days.

Alvin was in charge when I used to control the RH values in the lab testing area and hopefully keep it within the tolerances set as I worked in Factory Services. Did you know Barry Speakman, he was a ref and my ex father in law?

Did you know Barry Speakman, he was a ref and my ex father in law?Yep, Alan worked in the labs at about that time. Physical Lab. I think. I believe that he was related to my boss, Walter Sowden, the Chem. Lab. manager.Would that be Alvin Cayton? If so, he started a few months after me in 67/68, with a guy called Pete Coffin, sadly no longer alive. I think that the last time that I saw Alvin was in the mid 90's when we had a reunion in the club house. Terrific night!I can remember doing RH's by having to push a clapped out trolley around the Staple and Beaming Areas (amongst others). Had to submit the results to Head of Factory Services, a Mr Jamsett, I believe. Crap job at the time!

Crap job at the time!Blimey small world or what, yes Alvin Cayton was the gaffer in the lab after Alan retired and Pete, did he live in Kirk Sandall on Elizabeth Avenue, tall guy with dark combed back hair? If that is the same guy they emigrated a few years ago, I think they went to live with or near their son in Spain. Alvin, haha he was a bit of a card, fussing around like a mother hen, nice fella though and always very cheerful!!Can't remember Mr Jamsett, it was John Bailey and Henry Walters when I worked there............good times!!
