What a complete and utter waste of time! And an absolute disaster for 'little clubs' like ours.
It's ok if your money bags Scunny (tongue in cheek) or Chelsea, Man Utd etc, but what does it actually achieve? Bugger all in my opinion.
It raises fans expectations. Yes, we all want Billy Sharp back. Can we afford him? Well, it depends. Yes, we could get round it one way or another but doubt we will. It makes pissheads who haven't played for months think they are worth 8 grand a a week. It makes clubs think they can ask silly money for players who are shot and they are trying to get rid of. Agents are running around earning a years salary in a month.
Ridiculous. Why shouldn't we sign a player on in February if we want?. Or April, if we're prepared to pay someone's salary all over the summer when we're not playing? It whips up a frenzy on Sky Sports and the nearer the deadline gets, the dafter things become.
Get rid of it now, so you can sign a player on any time if you want, without paying over the odds 'in the window'

An expensive gimmick in my mind.

I agree with the sentiment mrfrostsdad. I would be in favour of a return to the old ways...

The history of it ;
"A statement from Uefa said: "The executive committee decided to recommend to Uefa's 51 member associations the adoption of harmonised transfer windows from 2002/03.
"This recommendation should be considered by each association before implementation."
However, European football's governing body has no power to force national associations to adopt the system for domestic transfers.
And Uefa chief executive Gehard Aigner acknowledged that it will be easier to implement in some countries than others.
The Football League in England is likely to be resistant to such a move. "
Unfortunately the FA went along with it .

Exactly the opposite, it was actually created for the benefit of smaller clubs. In the preTW day, clubs with money could buy any player they wanted at any time - and clubs with less money could loose a player at any time. Now you can only loose them during a set period in January - thus allowing a little better planning. Thats the theory, the practice is of course over inflated prices.

It is Jonny. But Wilts is dead right too. It really was introduced to protect small clubs. And most of 'em welcomed it too.

So when we get a quality player again, do you want the constant threat of him being poached all season long? No thanks. When we had players like Sharp, Mills and Wellens we knew we could keep them once the window slammed shut at the end of August/January and they were still here.
