I remember watching this when it went out on ITV. Great memories.

On tour again.
can't really imagine them now but just been looking at Manchester on 29th march or Hull (aka City of Culture) in the Summer.
First time I saw them was in Leeds, late 1970s?, and they were fantastic.

They are playing the Bearded Theory festival in Derbyshire in May along with CarterUSM, Peter Hook and the Light, Pop Will Eat Itself and The Wonder Stuff (amongst many others).  Thinking of going.  Tickets are £87 for the three days.

I love The Stranglers, I was just born ten years too late to go and rock out with my cock out with these mofo's. Are Hugh and JJ still part of the band.

JJ is, but Hugh isn't. He had a major falling out with the rest. To me, they don't seem quite like The Stranglers without Hugh.

Black and White remains one of my favourite albums of all time.

And that is reason enough for me to not go. Golden Brown, Peaches and No More Heroes are always on my iPod play list.

Jet Black still drums on some of their numbers when they play live, although he tends not to do the full set as he's 75 and has a heart condition.

A work colleague related a Hugh Cornwell story to me a while back. He found himself alone in a pub in London a few years ago when Hugh Cornwell walked in and stood at the bar. Feeling the need to say something, having made eye contact, he stammered 'So, what's that Jet Black really like then?' Cornwell took two steps forward, bent down to look my small colleague in the eye and sneered 'Well, he eats little people like you for breakfast'. My friend finished his drink in the awkward silence and just made things worse by saying 'Well it was nice to meet you' as he left.

I've seen HC live twice in recent years. His solo stuff is OK live but the highlights were the token Stranglers hits he threw in which were delivered with menace and underlined for me that the Stranglers aren't the real deal without him.

Coincidentally just read an article on them in classic rock, seen them a few times and always been a good night

Back in 77-78 I was Vice President of Liverpool Uni Guild of Students and was the guy who signed the cheque for bands at the student union. We had to make bookings months ahead and took a flyer on one of these new punk bands, the Stranglers they were called. By the time they came to play, 'no more heroes' was massive and the students union had its greatest ever night.

I rather fancied myself as a pop pundit, and would have put every penny I had on a local band 'Deaf School' becoming the third best thing to come out of Liverpool ( numbers one and two being the Beatles and the M62). Well I still hold that view but their blend of Burlesque, New Wave and Art Rock was just too good.

Never mind, I did book the Stranglers and was recounting this to a colleague but she had been to Leeds Uni and had booked the Who to appear at Carnegie Hall. I shrank visibly in awe at this revelation.
