"spice" - now that's a word (in that context) I haven't heard for decades!
My cousins in Hull used to call them spice as did people in West Yorkshire.In Balby in the 50s we used to call them scoffs.
For some obscure reason that I don't know, its called "kett" up here in parts of the NE

I'm 65 and lived on St Catherine's Ave from 1948 until marrying in 1972. My dad wouldn't let me go until 1958 because of the big crowds. Prior to that it was youth games and friendlies only? Happy days.
