Sharp willing to stay?

Taken from Doncaster star

Loan hitman Billy Sharp has hinted that he would sign for Doncaster Rovers on a permanent deal next season as he searches for “settled” football.

Fans’ favourite Sharp has netted four goals in 14 games since returning to the Keepmoat Stadium on loan until the end of the season - and the 28-year-old is craving stability.

“Nothing’s been mentioned at the minute, but it would always be an option,” revealed Sharp.

“I had a successful spell when I was on loan at Doncaster the last time and then I signed for the club.

“I had a few bad times off the field, but the fans stuck with me and I will always be grateful for that.”

I doubt he would if we go down. Sharp on form in that league though would probably mean us walk league 1.

Maybe it's more of a case of stay at a club who are willing to line his deep pockets for another season or two.

Saints don't want him, reading didn't, forest didn't.

He ain't getting any younger, neither is he uprooting trees anymore.

Maybe hes just looking for financial security.

Harsh I know, but I am bloody annoyed after today's let down

I'd like him to sign permanently, but I think half of the recent problems we've had have been as a result of not playing to his strengths, I don't see him ever getting many goals while ever we persist with knocking it long to Brown. Sharp has looked his best when the ball has been played on the deck, rather than being forced to chase nothing balls down the channels.

His best football at Donny was played under Sean O'Driscoll. I'll say no more...

Scored 9 in 19 under Saunders as well, which isn't bad.

True, and in those games he was paired with Hayter or Diouf.

All he is after is a settled pay packet. Offer him 3 k a week. Nothing more. He's not worth anymore.

Football is a harsh game and it's time to face facts

Billy will have come on a bit for a bit of regular football, get a decent pre-season into him and he'll be back to his best next time round, hopefully for us.

I think his best football was under Saunders. We were shite and he was scoring week in week out

When fit and match sharp, there's not doubt he could still do a job for a lot of teams in this division. I think it's fair to say he feels football has given him a raw deal for a couple of years regarding Saints using and abusing him and then a couple of loan spells that didn't allow him to play enough football as he needs. He's not an impact player and needs to be the main man somewhere. The fact he still as a contract at Southampton causes him a quandry. He could stay there and pick up a very good wage safe in the knowledge his reputation at championship level would secure him a loan deal next season but on the flip side should that not go well he'll be approaching the next major move of his career having barely troubled the scoring charts for 3 years.

He'll probably end up staying with Southampton and getting another loan deal, with us or Sheff United, depending on which league we are in.

Yes please.
We could probably get him quite cheap now.
He is just like every other striker in the country and has hit a bit of a baron spell but with a full pre season at the Rovers he would be a quality permanent signing.
I can see Rotherham being interested if they go up.
I think as soon as we know what division we will be in things will start to happen quite early this time.
