He's a fine example of the type of immigrant we need in this country.

Give him my best.

Stefan was discharged from hospital yesterday. The docs at Barnsley and in Romania have been speaking about his ongoing care and both feel that is better happening back in Romania where he has family support. So,  tomorrow he will return home.

He sends his thanks to everyone who has given him good wishes.

Pity it didn't work out for him, did they get to the bottom of what was up with him?

Really sorry it didn't work out, can't somebody nip him down the Keepmoat before he goes back? even if its just the outside, just to say he got there

Yes,  viral meningitis.  He's been incredibly lucky he got to hospital as quickly as he did. I've just been to see him,  and he is much,  much better. He's hoping to come back again after a few months R&R.

Crikey! Poor lad going through all that but very lucky to get treatment in time. As and when he's feeling good enough to come back, perhaps we could have a whip round or something to help with hs air fare.

Nice idea, Mike.  He's actually not OK to fly to get home, due to the pressurisation in the cabin.  So he leaves on a bus from Manchester tomorrow which will take him 40+ hours to get home.

Well, people knock our NHS, but getting prompt treatment and not having to wait around for some one to pay up before treatment commenced probably saved his life. Wonder if ASOS will keep his job open for him, maybe if he comes back in a few months he'll catch a match at the Keepmoat, all the best Stefan.

He's resigning from ASOS right now.  I wont post on here his comments about the place and how staff are treated.  I doubt he will ever return there.

I don't know what the standard of healthcare is like in Romania but I wouldn't be surprised if being in the UK when this struck was a bit of good luck actually.

A 40 hour bus journey Is a bit gruelling when you're feeling poorly, isn't it?

I know I'm quoting wikipedia here, but it seems they have a pretty good healthcare system

That's some journey when you're not feeling great and it doesn't get much worse than viral meningitis. Quite possible he picked it up in the UK too.

Best wishes Stefan, I'm sure you'll be fit soon enough. Mustn't grumble eh ;)

He goes tonight, the bus leaves at midnight and gets him home at Saturday teatime.

He says he feels OK.  A little dizzy and still a bit of a headache but other than that he is doing fine.

Great thought Mike_F.  I'd chip in if he decided to try again.

So would I. That is one bas**rd of a disease to get. And I can imagine very easily the sort of things Romanians seeking work have to put up with. Nice country? Not. Even 30 years back my then girlfriend, a Kenyan with rich parents, insisted repeatedly that of all the countries she had visited, and she had visited a lot, the one with most unpleasant and intrusive immigration was... you guessed it. And that was back when this country had a more laid back and way less xenophobic attitude.

I'm really sorry that I missed this thread earlier.
Stefan get your backside over here as soon as you can (avoiding Barnsley of course).

Thanks Rob as well for looking after our adopted Romanian supporter through this crisis.

Stefan please keep us up to date about your health OK ?

Hey Guys. I arrived last night in Bucharest and at this moment I'm okay.

The doctors from Barnsley talked with the doctors from Bucharest and they recommended me to return for 1-2 months here to make the completed analysis and for recovery.

I had viral meningitis, I contacted this at Asos because there was very high current. I started to had febra, feeled dizzy, vomiting and they I asked my friends to take me to the hospital.

I don't remember the first 24 hours in the hospital, I only remember 15 minutes in the night when I was very confused and I thought that I was in a loony bin and my life was finished. The second 24 hours I had very big problems with speaking english or romanian and I didn't remember the name of anyone (Rob visited me and he knows this) but now I'm much better.

I will be needed to stay here 1-2 months for analysis and then I want to return there but I want in Doncaster. I asked Rob to help me to find a job there (he will leave my cv and will speak for me at supermarkets/Tesco/Aldi/bars etc) because I worked and have studies in food industry. There in Doncaster I think that will be much easier and I will have a chance to have a social life with the guys from here, to go out for a beer, at matches etc.
If someone could help me to find to work there, I would be very grateful.

I liked the life there very much, I liked the people (I expected the people to be cold but no, they are very okay), the womans (especially nurses )

Good luck Stefan!! I've been thinking of you ever since you got on that coach. Horrible way to travel all that way - especially when you're not feeling well. Even a plane journey would have been tough.

Same from me , I hope to see you back soon and in time for a pint or two before the first match of the new season.
Get well soon and tell your friends to stay away from Barnsley too! Joking apart, I know that viral meningitis is a horrible disease to have :((

Hey guys. Today I was at the hospital, they took me a lot of blood for all analysis and Monday I will have the results and at this moment I'm okay. I hope I will return very soon there and if I will have some luck, to get a job there in Doncaster.

Thanks again for all the kind words from everyone.
