Increasing NY capacity…?

Tony Stewart says they are increasing Rotherscum’s capacity to 16,000. Seeing as they had difficulty filling 12,000, I see this as bit unnecessary.

I can’t see them averaging anymore than 9-10,000 next season.

It will be interesting to see what happens at this club. Their rapid rise has been very similar to ours, in a lot of ways, with an ambitious chairman at the helm.

It struck me that when we got the championship it was a case of, what now?  The dichotomy of finances between the top and bottom clubs is likely to mean exactly the same for RUFC. Where now?

Tony, like John has some cash but no where enough to get them to the promise land.

true true, if they are selling 12000 out then 4000 isn't a big increase. Good luck to them. The down side is if the attendances start falling

Donnyjim,The interview I watched he said they would expand the capacity IF the attendances showed a need for it.It was a couple of days ago and if he is now saying they ARE expanding then I apologise.I can see them nearly filling the 12,000 NY at the start of the season coming but the crowds will fall off again depending on their results.Having said that,16,000 is probably just about the right size for a club trying to establish itself in the championship.The people who did the study into the needs of the keepmoat before it got built were IMO spot on with advising it was not necessary for the 20,000 capacity.

If by increasing capacity means they can cope with big games and increase turnover then it makes sence. Their average home attendance may be less than capacity but inreasing it gives them more flexibility. We should know all about that.

I think they will need it they show some ambition and spend some money that will attract fans. Then with the attraction of bigger teams when most will bring large away followings the potential is there to sell more than their current 12,000.

I think they'll do Ok both crowd- and position-wise next season because they've got a squad which won promotion and therefore a lot of momentum behind them.

Their problems will come once their players start getting picked up by bigger Championship clubs and once their results start to fall off as a result. Sound familiar?

No, you show me what Rotherham are actually doing, then show me what Rovers are doing in comparison.  You raised the comparison - and yes, you may even be correct - but I challenged YOU to back up your assertion, not to turn it around.

Read the thread carefully RedJ.  Boomstick made an assertion about their/our marketing departments.  I have actually made no counter assertion -  all I have done is ask him to back up his own argument, which I may even agree with as he may prove ultimately to be correct.

They are only giving 2,200 to away fans. Missing a bit of a trick there really. Most club would sell a lot more than  that next season, as it is a first visit to the ground for many.

You could be right but Evans has taken three clubs to promotion. While Dickov was heading for relegation in league 1 and we were relegated last season.
