Injured bird

We had a bird in the house last night, a young blackbird I think. It fluttered about a bit and then went quiet, I think it knocked it's self out.

Anyway, I took it outside and I could see it was conscious but it just sat there. It was still there this morning, so I moved it under a hedge. It chirruped a bit and flapped it's wings.

I'm not sure what to do for the best. Leave it? The local cats will probably have it. Wring the poor little buggers neck? It doesn't seem to be in distress.

Any thoughts?

If you have a garage or somewhere safe put it in a decent sized cardboard box with access to water for 24 hours. Chances are it's just dazed and will come to after a bit of time. You'll normally find when you reopen the box it'll be back to it's usual self.

A mate of mine's pet budgie died so he sprayed its  wings with hair laquer and let the kids play with it as a glider.

Speaking of injured birds, a sparrowhawk tried to take a pigeon outside my office yesterday. Pigeon struggled free only to launch itself straight into the window. The hawk came back and had another go at it on the grass with Mrs. Hawk circling around telling him what a useless Kitson he was and that she told him he'd never be able to carry a pigeon off but would he listen? would he f**k?

By this time there'd been a stampede to the office window and the hawk f**ked off but the pigeon was twitching its last.

That's the most interesting thing ever to happen on a Monday at our place.

Pull it's neck. If it hasn't moved it has probably injured itsself and the RSPCA are not interested in common birds anyway. I've had to finish two collared doves in the last couple of months that got too close to my chickens grain and took a good pecking for it. They are knackered in the wild if they are injured and can't feed themselves or seek shelter.
