Rod was indeed a great bloke (sadly no longer with us).

Still get a decent pint in the Plough now (Oslo - Nick Griffin runs it (no that one!) who you might recall from Nelsons, mate of RH from Edlo)

Castle landlord was Terry Oates, now running The Stag which is a good pub for all types - no trouble in there as the Kamara's are customers!

Pete Dodds had the Kings Head and later the Park Hotel (now shut), now got the Horse & Groom at Armthorpe.

Worst landlord must have been Miserable Pete at the Hallcross, right surly f**ker.

I'd say Terry, Pete's sidekick was fatter but allowed you to get away with more :-)

Dave and Paula (?) didn't do to bad a job with the Rock. They looked after regulars, race goers and a slightly different clientele every other Saturday.

Pat Feeney who used to have the  Woolpack back in the early 80's although Gay he had the heart and tenacity of a Lion and would take any one on who was causing trouble.
Which was every other day as it was the Woolpack, died of a Brain tumour I seem to recall.

The back room with the telly in biscuits was like being in your own living room.
The bloke who ran the pub next to the Castle wasn't the most welcoming of landlords. The only saving grace were the photos and caps behind the bar, and the weekly female boxing bouts.

John Sims, sadly departed now, who used to run The Sun Inn back in the 70's went on to Annie Arms and Burghwallis Club. I'd just started playing for The Sun then and we needed a new kit. After training one night we were all back in the little bar John asked what colours we were playing in next season and was told we were struggling for a kit, how much does a kit cost? producing a wad of notes, pay me back when you've got it! top bloke and kept a good pint. His wife Irene was a lovely lady and put on good snap as well, had my 21st and ended up having our wedding reception there.......... Jeez doesn't time fly

Indeed.  He might have been a DRFC legend, but he was an average landlord.

now that used to be a busy pub ,but went downhill fast after Dougie and chris thrower  left after been landlord for years.

ran a very tight ship when it came Down to his customers and kept the shite out of cantley out.

think he left at the time too as the drinking culture in local pubs in UK has and still is going downwards
